Carter Vaughn

Van brought a new friend home with him yesterday afternoon.
Carter is a freshman. I think he just turned 14 this month.
He's not real tall for his age - about the same height as Jake
and Craig - maybe 5'3" or 4". He does have awesome hair -
something like honey brown with a hint of red in it. He wears
it short on the sides, with a 3/4rs part and the top/bangs are
much longer, so they kind of curtain his face. He has fair
skin, but very red lips, he wears gold wire framed glasses with
tortoiseshell accents, and I'm pretty sure his eyes are blue.
More importantly, he plays the violin.
Some of you may have noticed that Eddy Campion graduated this
year. A violin player really isn't required in a rock band, so
I was interested to see if Van would look for someone new or
just change their repertoire. Like Van himself, Carter is
apparently something of a prodigy. While he enjoys classical
music, he also has made an effort to find rock violin.
Van introduced us and asked if we (the three of us) could talk
in my office. At first I thought he was asking if the two of
them could borrow my office, which isn't a huge problem, except
Van has a room to himself, so I wasn't sure why he would need
to. He clarified that he wanted me there, and once there, I
learned why. While he enjoys classical music, he also has made
an effort to find rock violin. He loves Lindsey Sterling, but
he had also found some music we'd not heard of. Fuse is one
which was okay, but he also introduced us to Anna Phoebe, who is
kind of a hard rock violinist from Germany.
I don't know if Carter still gets spanked, but I'm sure he used
to. His younger brother, Mike, was in my fourth period class
last year - challenged elementary. Carter had actually looked
familiar to me. It turns out his fourth period class wasn't far
from my classroom, and he'd sometimes stop by and meet Mike
before lunch.
Unlike Mike, Carter loves to read. While he's not into comic
books specifically, he does enjoy a lot of the movies, and we do
have several series in common. This Friday is our last Summer
Movie Series for the season, and I gave special permission for
Carter to join us. Beforehand, he's going to get to know the
other members of the Phantoms, and they're going to jam together
Friday evening and Saturday to see if it's a good fit.

Carter's mom called me yesterday. She was a bit concerned about
exactly what was going on. Carter only turned 14 last month,
and Van is a senior, so she wanted to double check on the
situation, as well as finding out exactly what's involved with
the audition and the band.
It turns out she's actually seen the Phantoms in general and Van
in particular perform, and once she realized who he was, she was
a lot more relaxed about the situation; and moreso once she
learned how many kids they already know are regulars around here
(Carter is good friends with the Loomis twins).
I've invited Mike (Carter's little brother) to join us this
evening along with his brother; and Carter well be spending the
night.

I am really impressed with Carter's mom with calling you and
finding out what is going on. Too many parents just don't pay
attention to what their kids are doing and who they are doing it
with. Good for Carter's mom for finding out what is what,
before she lets her son get involved.

I wanted to mention that Carter is actively part of the Phantoms
now, and fitting in well as both a band member and around here.
As a band member, they played their first gig with Carter last
night, handling music for a Homecoming Party at the Family
Center. Tonight, they're playing a recurring gig at a Haunted
House. As a matter of fact, they have gigs every Friday and
Saturday from now until the weekend after Halloween, covering
the Haunted House some nights and playing Halloween Parties
other nights. They're also playing a Saturday afternoon gig at
the Fall Carnival. They are taking one night off, the week
before Halloween, so they can do their own thing instead of
working the entire holiday. Besides that, they're taking a
break after that first, November weekend, to work on their
holiday repertoire. Carter is actually great with the classical
type music they play (for Halloween and Christmas), but he's
more of a rock fan otherwise, so he's having to learn a lot of
the country numbers they do from scratch.
I had a great time with Carter last weekend. The boys have four
Halloween costumes they normally rotate for the band (they're
normal band uniform, the colored Phantom of the Opera inspired
outfit, a skeleton type costume, and and one, more individual
costume that's kind of goth or vampirey. They also use a couple
of Christmas costumes. Carter had basically none of the stuff
he needed for these, and his parents don't have a lot of extra
money for this type of thing, so we spent last Saturday
afternoon downstairs, going through hand-me-downs and costumes
putting together what we could from what we had, then getting
his sizes to order the rest.
Carter spent most of that time in just a pair of white, Fruit of
the Loom boxer briefs. I think a darker, jewel tone color would
have looked better with his fair skin, but it was still pretty
cute. Yeah, i've seen him naked now a couple of times
(poolside). I should say that, despite being fairly small and
not having much hair, he has a nice bottom and is fairly well
hung.
So, we got the stuff put together for him. Van 'loaned' him the
money to buy the rest, against future earnings.
I should also mention that Carter admits he's still threatened
with spanking, and he had at least a couple last school year,
but he's not sure how long it's been. Mike (his little brother)
got one just a few weeks ago, so Carter thinks maybe he's safe
now, but he doesn't want to push it.

I knew I was leaving something out -
I had meant to also add that Carter is, as I said, a freshman.
He already knew many of Kenny's friends who attend BCA, like the
Loomis twins, Aidan Guthrey, and Chas Tidwell, and he's become
stronger friends with them, and fast friends with Kenny as well.
