       Independence Day 2019

WOW! Yesterday was definitely a day.
We started early. Every year, we have a Fourth of July Parade.
It's not really a big deal - it starts over by my mom's house,
and runs down the old main street, then loops around. No one
does anything real fancy, but the band and ROTC and the Scouts
are all involved, so we were there. I think we left here about
8:30, and we were home by 10:30 or so.
Guests didn't start arriving until 11:30, and those were the
early ones. We normally start earlier than that, but because we
end up at the lake for fireworks and don't get home until after
10pm, no one wants the day too drag on too long. Of course, a
lot of people leave here in the afternoon, then meet us at the
       lake later.
There were a LOT of people here yesterday. Remember, just with
me, my college kids, my unofficial boys, and my older boys who
live locally and their families, that's about 50 people. While
a lot of people were in and out, I know the entire tribe came by
at one time or another, and there were a number of others who
dropped by. Overall, including mine, we had over 200 people
total by the end of the day.
I thought we had plenty of supplies, but we went through 200
all-angus beef hot dogs, 120 brats, 25 polish sausages (links,
which can easily be cut into four sections for buns), 80 hot
links, 160 quarter pound sirloin patties, and I don't know how
many gallons of potato salad we went through, but I know they
had seven different kinds (regular w and w/o onions, the same
with mustard, deviled egg, and pickled), plus macaroni salad and
dozens of bags of chips. I don't think anyone left hungry, but
I have to head back to the store today, plus a trip to Costco to
       restock on condiments.
I'm not really impressed by fireworks displays anymore, but the
kids had a good time. Normally we'd be up and going by now, but
Noah and Bryce are the only other ones awake, and even they
slept in (for them anyway). Many people were able to take a
four day weekend, so we're not going to have many guests today -
not the usual number of kids we end up with on a weekday at
       least. Well, not until tonight.
I already took the kids to see Spider-man: Far From Home. It
disrupts our schedule a bit when opening night is during the
week, but we ran with it, so tonight's the Summer Movie Series,
per usual. Tomorrow, we're planning to keep things really low
key and have a family night.
