       Beyond Over the Knee
By: Jack Date: July 3, 2019, 5:40 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
This just came up in chat, and I decided to ask it here.
I was spanked in primarily two positions when I was a kid - over
the knee or over the side of the bed. Occasionally the strap
dance came into it, but that was rarely as serious.
I know there are many other positions, and some of them require
furniture. While there is custom made furniture only for
spanking/bondage, what items around the house are excellent for
       spanking?
Besides chairs, which can be used for OTK or for bending/laying
over (also including couches), I can think of tables, foot
stools, and step ladders. Anything else come to mind?

I rarely got a formal spanking. Even rarer was over the knee or
lap. I did get spanked when little over the lap a few times.
As for furniture, a few times I was belted over a footstool, so
dad didn't have to get up and over my bed.
My most usual way to be whipped was standing up being held by
one arm and then wailed with either a belt or paddle. Depending
on how strong my spanker was, depended on if I ran around in
circles or was held in one place squirming trying to get away.
But because of that position, I got belted in more places than
just my buttocks. Which is also why my parents preferred the
belt, because there was less chance of hitting my spine and
injuring me with a belt that wrapped around me, getting front
and back, instead of a paddle that walloped me where-ever I was
at the time of impact. So with me twisting in place it was very
possible to hit areas that could cause injury. After a
whipping, I usually had welts that circled around my body.
So, sorry, not much experience with a formal spanking, where the
person takes the position and holds it or is held in place.

Most of mine were over the lap. My dad either sat on the long
edge of my bed, or he would sit in a chair. I had one of those
hard plastic swivel desk chairs (from IKEA, I think) that he
       would use.
The one time my mother swatted me I was standing and she kind of
pushed me into a corner of the kitchen counter and swatted me
with a wooden spoon. It was very haphazard and I barely felt it.
Dad spankings were no joke though.

Zygaru, what you describe is what I refer to as the 'strap
dance'. I've also heard of it done with switches, but never
with a paddle (which, as you point out, would seem dangerous).
Surfer, you do raise another interesting point: how much
difference is made by where the spanker sits. Beds are
different from couches, since they have more edges, and easy
chairs are different from desk/table chairs, since easy chairs
       usually have raised, padded arms.
I'm pretty sure I remember my mom taking me OTK on both a couch
and a dining room chair (armless). On the other hand, I
remember friends saying they had to bend over the arms of a sofa
or easy chair (and I know Kat had a story about going over the
back of a couch). Thinking about it, my friend Allen Robertson
and his brothers normally had to kneel in the seat of a couch
and lay over the back cushions, if I'm remembering correctly.

Jack, yes using a paddle when the spankee is able to move and
twist around is very dangerous. Dad always used his belt. Mom
used the paddle until she broke it over one of my brothers
butts. That is when she got a 4 inch wide leather belt. She
took the buckle off it and used it like a strap. No one in the
family knows what ever happened to that strap/belt. Or at least
no one is admitting to making it disappear. I suspect one of my
nephews had something to do with it disappearing. To the best
of my knowledge, I was never switched. I know friends that
were, but it wasn't something my family used.
My relatives that lived deeper in the south than I did, the
older aunts would sit out on the wrap around porch or under a
big live oak tree with a switch in their hand. If a kid was
stupid enough to get close to them, they risked getting the
       switch across their legs.
You mentioned how the spanker was positioned. My dad would sit
in his over stuffed living room chair with his feet up on a big
upholstered footstool. If we were too noisy or irritated dad,
he would call you over and you went across that footstool. Boys
bare, girls, well my sisters never got whipped by dad. Mom
would make them do the strap dance, but dad never touched them
with a belt or paddle. On the bed, I would lay on the bed and
dad would stand over me and give it to me with his belt. That
was always worse than the foot stool because he got a bigger
swing when standing up. But those are the only furniture I can
remember getting whipped on. Does a car trunk count? We had an
old 57 Plymouth in our backyard. Us kids liked sliding down it,
because it was huge and sloped nicely like a slide. I did get a
bad whupping with my shorts down, I wasn't wearing underwear,
not in the summer in the south, laying over the trunk of that
car. All I can remember is how hot that trunk was. I imagined
coming off it with blisters from the hot metal. No blisters,
but my butt was on fire.

I think chairs are very versatile when it comes to spanking.
They can be used with the 'over the lap' variations, or in other
       ways.
When I was young, my mom sat on the couch , and I think I laid
kind of flat. I prefer using an armless chair, so the boy bends
more, presenting his bottom. I know there are a lot of
variations on those. My first step-father sat on the side of
the bed, but I was only maybe 6, and I don't remember much about
how he positioned me, but there can be a lot of variations with
beds, based on where the spanker sits as much as anything.

It becomes impractical to put bigger/older kids over the knee.
It can be done, but it's awkward. I remember two alternatives in
       my family:
       1. Lying over a hassock (really a small ottoman)
       2. Bending over the side of the bed
Alternatives I heard about or witnessed but didn't experience:
       1. Bending over a blanket chest; bending over a table or desk
       2. Lying on the bed, with pillows under target area
       3. Bending over a bar stool with a padded seat
       4. Leaning over a basin in a public restroom
       5. Simply standing or bending over with hands on knees
