2019 Summer Camp
By: Jack Date: June 16, 2019, 10:01 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I've mentioned elsewhere, though it may have been in chat, that
only Connor and Curtis are going to summer camp this year. Or,
I should say, traditional summer camp. Well, Jeremy's going as
well, except he'll be a junior counselor there for a couple of
weeks. Of course, when I say 'only' C&C, it will also be Jake,
Ollie, Andy, Rhett, Ryder, Emmett, Kline, Glen, Paden, Adam, and
Duncan. In other words, I'm going to be short of short people
for a couple of weeks.
I'm making a special trip here to post this tonight. We're
actually having a thunderstorm now, and it's rained on and off
all afternoon, which is a good thing. After brunch and some
visiting (and visits from the other guests who are here for 'A
Weekend Party') everyone went home, and we were able to get
everything packed and ready to go without anyone running off or
getting in trouble.
We're leaving here at 4:45 in the morning, so I doubt I'll have
time to log on. All the trunks are already loaded aboard, and I
have travel bags in the back of the SUV, so all I have to do is
throw C&C in the car and take off. Noah and Barry are going
with me to help drive, and we'll be stopping at Whataburger for
fuel and caffeine before we meet everyone at the bus.
I might be back in time for chat tomorrow, but if not, I'll try
to do another late evening update.

The drive went great yesterday. It was a smaller caravan than
it's often been in the past, since most of the older kids didn't
attend this year. We got out of here on time, and I was able to
get my Whataburger before going to BCA to meet the bus and the
other riders.
It's really only a bit over three hours to get there, but we
always allow five for delays and pit stops, and we made it in
about 4.5 yesterday. We got all the kids unloaded and signed
it, and everyone seemed very excited. The younger boys (Curtis,
Ollie, and Ryder) seemed a bit nervous, but they have enough
older brothers/cousins/uncles around that I'm not too worried
about them.
I actually did arrive back last night in time for part of chat.
I got home about 4:45, cleaned up a bit, and checked on
everyone, but things were going great, so I checked in here.

So Van is taking a break from his camps this year?

Not all of them.
The Phantoms are working a lot. They're not a professional
level band, but they're well known in the area. They play the
Family Center once or twice a month, and it's a rare month when
they don't play some large private party. That's on top of
school.
Van particularly is tired, and he wants to stay home and relax.
He's going to two, one week camps - an advanced piano camp and
one that will work with him on rock piano, but is supposed to
focus more on band dynamics and performance, instead of actual
mechanics.

It's similar stories with the other older boys.
Kenny is active in the drama/vocal/dance camp we have going
locally this summer. Between that and the stuff we do around
here, he decided not to do camp. I did promise to do a couple
of 'camp type' things he wouldn't normally do around here, which
mostly involves a couple of trips to go horseback riding. Devon
will be doing a football camp (before summer two-a-days start).
Colt doesn't have anything special in mind, but with his two
closest brothers staying home, and everything we have going on
here, he decided to stay. Kaden wanted to go, but his mom had
scheduled a vacation for the two of them, and it ended up
conflicting, so he stayed home instead of her having to try to
reschedule. Leif has band camp. Liam is really two old to
attend camp now, and he wasn't interested in being a councilor.
It really just comes down to active teens, with a lot of friends
and an active home life deciding they didn't need to go away for
a couple of weeks to have a good time.
