Thursday is still my grocery shopping day, though these days,
the college kids do a lot of it for me. Today, I did it, and I
took Craig with me.
Craig has been taught some basics about shopping, but he's never
had a lot of input into the menu. He got it today. Craig hates
brussel sprouts, squash, and spinach. He likes peas and green
beans. There is some things like asparagus he's never had but
is willing to at least try.
There are things that are pretty much comfort food that we
really don't eat during the summer. Things I think of as comfort
food tend to be heavy and stick to your ribs - not really
something you want to be eating in the Texas heat. However,
that pretty much describes Craig's favorites. So, in the next
week or so, we're going to have pot roast (with carrots and new
potatoes, and probably green beans on the side), chicken fried
steak with all the trimmings, a lasagna, and we'll probably have
crock pot luck or Cincinnati chili one evening (not one of his
favorites, but I think he'll like it, from what he's said), and
maybe stuffed peppers.
We weren't sure when (or even if, to be honest) Craig would be
here, so I gave Chance a regular schedule this week. After this
week, I'm going to make sure the two of them have at least one
day off during the week, so they can do stuff like Six Flags and
Hurricane Harbor when it's not so crazy.

I had a question here. Let me remind people that there are two
Jakes in the family - my son, who is PJ's biological
half-brother, Jacob Wells, and then my grand nephew, Jacob
Clayton Carpenter. My son Jake went to camp these past two
weeks and will be shares a room with Ryan Tucker and Devon. My
grand nephew is Kenny's age, did not go to camp, and usually
goes home, but sometimes shares a room with Kenny and Colt when
he does stay over. From what a couple of people have said, I
think there was a bit of confusion about that. Sorry.

I thought I had posted about this, but I must have just
mentioned it in chat.
Craig has had a spanking.
Chance and I are becoming close friends. While I can't show him
too much favoritism at work, he's over here almost every day to
spend time with Craig, but also to visit the older boys (and
sometimes just to hang out with me).
I'm pretty sure this happened last Friday. Chance and I were
running errands (there are some things that foster kids rarely
have a chance to learn, so I'm trying to give him some direct
experience with running a household), and he mentioned that
Craig had said spankings weren't 'too bad, and (he wishes he)
could get those instead of grounded and stuff.'
I made it very clear that I had NOT spanked him.
Chance laughed.
It turns out that, after Kenny and his friends got in trouble,
Craig became aware of it. He had a chance to see some red
rears, and they got to talking about it. All three families
spank, though these boys (who are all a year older than Craig)
don't get it often anymore. Questions were asked, and the
opportunity was offered for Craig to find out.
From what I've heard, Craig probably received what I would call
swats when he was much younger. This time, he had his bottom
bared and went over Owen Loomis' knees for a taste of the
Tailblazer.
Because of the situation, I did have to talk to Kenny about
this, but it sounds like there was no bullying or pressure
involved, and that there was a lot of joking about it all. I
think a lot of it was probably of the 'you show me yours'
curiosity through which boys often go. There were apparently
enough good swats that Craig's bottom was reddish, and he was
ouching and yelping some, but not crying.
I later took Craig aside and had a short talk with him about
experimentation, peer pressure, and bullying, but he said he's
having no problem. Chance said he's having no problem. I see no
problem, so that's as far as I felt I needed to go with it,
though I did mention it to Maggie, CYA and FIC.

I can imagine what's coming next: "Mr. Wells, if I can get Owen
to whup me with the Tailblazer, would you cut short this
grounding thing? You can check me out afterward to see if he
did a good job."

Even if Craig is officially exempt from spanking, no one truly
is exempt in a spanky household. I hope no one makes a big deal
out of it, I mean, the people you reported it to.

I know Maggie's pretty open about kids experimenting together,
and I was almost positive she'd consider this under that
heading, which she did. She wasn't worried about it, because
she believes me when I told her I'd talked to those involved and
made sure it was consensual and not too harsh.

should have been JIC - Just in Case.

Ah, I see know. I hadn't understood any of the acronyms; I

Why am I NOT surprised. Being a Foster Kid or not, Curiosity
trumps everything.
