Staying with the fantasy theme, we went really retro last night
and watched Jason and the Argonauts. We've been doing different
foods lately, so last night - by popular request - we were back
       to burgers and dawgs.
We will probably be home Friday before time for the movie to
start, but I'm sure we're all going to be tired, so we're doing
it Saturday night next week - probably burgers and dogs again,
since those are pretty easy to do. I've given Connor and Jake
some extra money for gas, and the two of them are going to take
100% control of keeping track of people's projects.

I should go back and say that Jake and Connor did a great job.
A couple of boys did try to game the system or take advantage of
the young adults being in charge, but they kept control (and I
had stern words with the miscreants in question, but didn't need
to spank to make my point.. unfortunately).
Last week, we did Ladyhawke as the movie of the week. This week
we're doing Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Next week, I'm going out on a limb and showing the 1940 Thief of
Baghdad, largely because the kids liked the other, older movies
we've watched (though those did have Harryhausen animation).
We're doing burgers and dawgs again tonight, though the boys are
making a variety of sides to go with them - mostly because they
       wanted onion rings, I think.

It's been unseasonably cool recently, and rather unstable as
well. Normally, by this point in July, our highs would be
around 105F/40C, with lows about 85F/30C. We had a thunderstorm
earlier this week (Tuesday, I think), and since then, it's been
highs of 90F/32C and lows of 65F/18C - not only much cooler than
normal, but a wider range of daily temperatures as well.
That didn't hamper our movie night last night. It was still
about 83F/29C when we started, and a lot of the kids were still
in just swim trunks, in and around the pool. What did happen
that's not usual is we sat up a couple of tents ahead of time,
and a lot of the kid slept outside last night - many of them
just in loose sleeping bags (we do pretty great with avoiding
mosquito problems through various means, and that's even easier
when it's not dawn or dusk).
Several of the college kids slept out, so I think there was
adequate supervision. There certainly weren't any problems.
It's right at 7am as I start writing this. A lot of the kids
are still asleep, but Bryce and Noah have already had their run
and taken a quick (but quiet) swim. Since we ended up with
extra kids, we're doing breakfast burritos this morning, along
with a Continental style buffet. That's really easy enough,
since we just heat some refried beans and tortillas, brown some
sausage, and scramble some eggs, and those can all be kept warm
easily enough. The real problem is keeping the kids who are
already up and about quiet, so the others can sleep a while
       longer.
The sad thing is, while some of the older kids like to shower in
the morning, our outside showers only have solar water heaters,
so they're mostly coming inside to shower. Still, I'm sitting
in the breakfast nook, watching out the window, and enjoying the
       scenery.

To update, so far this summer, we've had
8 June - The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
       14 June - Stardust
       21 June - Spiderwick Chronicles
28 June - Golden Voyage of Sinbad
5 July - Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
12 July - Jason and the Argonauts
       19 July - Ladyhawke
26 July - Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader
2 August - Thief of Baghdad
9 August - Legends of the Guardians
       16 August - 7th Voyage of Sinbad
23 August - Clash of the Titans
We probably will do one more movie on Labor Day weekend,
Probably Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, since those have been
       pretty popular this summer.
After last nights fancy dinner, we just decided to do burgers
and dawgs again tonight, with onion rings and potato wedges.
The boys always seem to love that.

I was thinking "Wrath of the Titans" for the last summer movie,
since you just watched "Clash of the Titans." Of course that
would depend on if they liked "Clash of the Titans."
But a second Sinbad is a great option also.

The original Clash of the Titans with the Harryhausen Kracken -
       not the 2010 re-make.

Things went well last night, though it was weird doing this
without Connor (who left for college this week). Jake worked
hard, and Chance and Jeremy and Connor's little brother, Payton,
all stepped up and helped out, so things went well. One more
week, and then it'll be over for this year. It's a lot of fun,
but it can be time consuming as well.

Have your boys watched this old Disney movie? Since they are
used to watching older movies sometimes, the younger ones who
are scouts would probably enjoy it:

I may have mentioned it before, as it was one of my favorites as
a boy, but if so i don't remember if you had watched it.

I want to say we watched this two years ago, but I'm sure we did
a series of movies where we watched all the Tommy Kirk and Kurt
Russell Disney movies... I think. I know we've seen it, but
it's possible we just watched the Medfield College* movies that
summer (and maybe it wasn't even that summer). However, it's
one we've definitely seen, though I need to check with the
grandkids, because it's probably time to cycle through those
       again.
Medfield College, in the fictional town of Medfield (no state)
is the setting for The Shaggy Dog (implied later), the
Absent-Minded Professor, Son of Flubber, The Computer Wore
Tennis Shoes, Now You See Him Now You Don't, The World's
Stongest Athlete, and The Shaggy D.A. (which is what implies the
Shaggy Dog takes place in the same town). While they weren't
set in Medfield, I also like to group The Misadventures of
Merlin Jones, Monkey's Uncle, and The World's Greatest Athlete
       in with those.
