       30 May 2019 - Starting Summer Vacation
By: Jack Date: May 30, 2019, 7:25 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
School ended yesterday for the kids at BCA and the public
schools both - usually, but not always the case.
We had a couple of canopies set up, and snacks set out, but it
wasn't a great day. It was overcast and cloudy yesterday, there
were some bad storms in the Dallas area, and we had a bit of a
thunderstorm yesterday. It was pretty warm, but there was a
nice breeze, though the rain dropped the temperatures quite a
       bit for a while.
We didn't have too many guests last night; just some of the
extended family. Everyone was pretty tired, though I think
being able to settle down on their own schedule was a relief for
       just about everyone.
Graduation is happening this evening for BCA and tomorrow for
BHS. Zeke is graduating. We'd already been making plans for him
to take some classes at the college next fall, but we were
thinking he'd need to take the GED (General Equivalency Degree,
I think). There was some work and a bit of rush to test him on
some of his 'self-study', but he had enough credits to graduate.
I'll need to make sure he's awake soon, since he needs to be at
school by 9am, for a meeting and to pick up his cap and gown.
Parker's graduating tomorrow, and he is graduating with honors.
The house is quiet right now. Noah and Bryce are the only other
ones up, and they're out jogging right now. I was able to sleep
until I woke, then I laid abed for a while. My stomach's
growling, and I'm deciding between a sandwich, fixing a little
something, or just sneaking out to Whataburger. Whatever the
choice, it's nice to be able to take my time and do it with ....
Oh yeah, I have to meet Stu and Ralph at the school in just over
an hour. They're going to help me pack up my classroom, and I
have a meeting before that. I guess Whataburger it is.

Today has been a really good day, except some left over sinus
       problems from the storms yesterday.
While today is an /f day, so no naked boys running around or
even just changing at pool side, there are still a lot of
shirtless guys enjoying the pool and various water games (Slip
and Slide and Super Soakers, mostly). While things are pretty
crazy outside, it's more quiet inside, since it's mostly family
and tribe who are hanging out in here, and that not often. We
do have a tent and a canopy set up in the usual area, next to
the park. While Chris, Terry, and Marcus had to do in-service
today (I did go for part of the day), I still have several adult
friends who are helping supervise, and I'm making the rounds on
a regular basis. Most of them will be leaving between 5 and
6pm, since some of us have graduation to be at this evening,
       starting at 7:30.
Everyone has been very well behaved, which is good for them,
though it is a bit frustrating for me, at least in some ways -
I'm always a little torn between proud of them and happy for
them, and really wanting to spank some of these cute bottoms
       hanging around here.
I'm not cooking today. We just set up cold cut plates, fruit
and veggie trays, and a lot of cold sides (slaw, potato salad,
chips), and we're just letting everyone graze. Not the
healthiest thing, I suppose, but it's sure a lot easier than
       trying to cook for everyone.
There is a new(ish) business in town. The owners rent limos,
party buses and... game trucks? game buses? They've been
looking for drivers and have apparently spoken to a lot of
school bus drivers, which led them to me. We're setting up a
system where the Party Palace and Pump Up the Jump will be doing
referrals for them and possibly we'll even be helping with
reservations. We do get a lot of calls about things like that,
but it's not something I've wanted (or had time and money) to
       expand into.
The reason I mention that here is that their kids attend BCA,
and they heard there was going to be a get together here. They
brought over several of their buses and trucks, and are giving
everyone tours, time to play, and business cards. It's a great
way to get the word out there, and their sons (Luke (12) and
Landon (8) seem to be pretty nice kids and fit in well here).

Sounds great, and relaxing (as much as being in charge of so
many kids can be relaxing). One question: how big is your
       swimming pool?

Our pool is a weird shape; basically three 40 by 40 sections, so
it's an 'L' that's eighty feet long and eighty wide, but only in
the wider parts. One part is shallow, for easy games and the
younger kids, one gets up to seven feet deep, for the slide and
games, and one is up to 10 feet deep for diving, and the deeper
parts are also available for laps. I think it's 50K galloons.

After all this time, it's weird not having to be at school by
       this point in the morning.
Everything's quiet, except what I think is some thunder....
Maybe not, we're supposed to have some possibly heavy storms
today, but it looks like they're still on the west side of Fort
Worth right now. It is pretty overcast though, so... maybe?
Not many of us up so far. Me, Bryce, Noah, and Parker has a
meeting at school in a while. We had some leftover steak with
fried eggs, hash browns, and toast for breakfast, which is more
than enough to wrap your ribs around.
Not many guests either. My grandnephews are old enough and live
close enough, that they can get up and get themselves over here
in the morning --- at least they're trying it. I think part of
it depends on how well Andy and Ollie can mind Jake - sore
bottoms are at risk, so it should be fairly well. On the other
hand, Ryan Tucker and Jake, Kelly, Dylan, and Brennan did spend
the night. Their rooms are pretty much packed up so they can
move into the duplex tomorrow, and it was just easier to let
       them stay here.
Not really much else going on that I can think of. I just felt
like I should type something, since I actually have time to sit
down and nothing to do. I'm arguing with myself now between
catching up on some TV or playing a video game, until things get
       moving.

Nice. Jack has a moment that he can decide what he wants to do,
instead of what needs to be done. Awesome! ;D

Today is the first day of the first full week of summer
vacation. I'm not going to say we're being lazy, because the
kids are actually outside playing (mostly in the pool at this
time). As for me, I'm going to have to work several days this
week, so I'm liable to be pretty busy, but I'm taking today off,
       watching the kids, and napping.
Things are going to slow down a bit at work. Not only is my
summer crew all working now, mostly trained, and hitting their
stride, but I have some news on Jake Ames.
Jake has worked for me for a couple of years now, and he's
always been reliable and a hard worker. He was hoping to go
away to school this year, and he actually had a partial
scholarship, but it wasn't going to cover all the costs, and he
really wants to avoid student loans right now. What he's
decided to do instead is go to our local university, where his
scholarship will cover everything, and continue to work.
Because of his knowledge of geek-stuff, his previous work
history, and his unexpected availability, I've promoted him to
assistant manager. Until the fall semester starts, that's
going to free me up to spend less time at the campus store, so I
can deal with the paperwork and oversee all the locations. Not
ideal, since it's cutting the funnest part out of what I do, but
it still frees up a good amount of time for me each week, so I'm
       happy.

This is good. IMO, student loans are bad news and he is doing
well not to be involved with them.
