       Important Announcement about Missing Information
By: Jack Date: September 15, 2017, 4:54 am

If you go to Google and look up a topic, then go to
       'settings/advanced search' and enter branstomtx.forumotion.net
as the site, it will pull up artlces and information from the
old forum. If, at the end of the URL, there is a small, downward
triangle, that means that Google has at least part of that
information cached. Click on that triangle, select cache, and
you can look at what they have. I can't tell if they have all
or part of it, but it's definitely another way to recover more
information, and it looks like they have more than WAYBACK does.

Yes, although unlike the Wayback Machine, the Google cache is
not permanent. It will soon be overwritten as their web crawler
gets to those addresses again for an updated version.
I plan to do some exploring tonight to see if I can save some
recent Anecdotes stuff that is not included in Leti's files.
Speaking of Leti's files, I asked her to send me a copy
yesterday and it's a huge amount of information most of which
would have been lost otherwise. It's not completely updated so
that a few of the last month's info is not included, but there's
an awful lot, the text of years and years of Bransom relevant
posts by Jack from Anecdotes, Blog, BOTD extras, Biographies...
The info about spankings is there, and also non-spanking posts
with info about the boys. Other Bransom posts not directly
related to a boy or group of boys may not be included. In any
case, while not a complete backup of the forum, those files are
a treasure. I converted the text backups from Leti's excel
format to a couple of big text files, in case you are
interested, Jack. If you don't want to use the Excel files
directly and don't want to make the conversion yourself I could
send it to you as doc, rtf or HTML files if you want, and you
could put it on your site so that a lot of the info from the old
forum is again available for the community.

What parts of the old forum have the highest priority for
       recovery?
I tried accessing the google-cached version and it did work for
except that I wasn't logged and trying to log in just brought up
       ad fly :(
However I have completely cleared to cache and reinstalled my
browser since the last time I was on the old site. Other people
       might still be logged in.

No, Zac, the old forum is gone. You (or anybody else) won't be
able to log in or be still logged in in any way. Only threads in
the public part of the site will be available on the google
cache or the wayback machine, because they are backups external
       to the old forum.
Also, when you open a forum page in the google cache, don't
follow any link in that forum page. That will take you to the
current version of the linked address, which is of course the
adfly garbage. You need to go back to google and open another
cached page from there. The Wayback Machine is different: you
can click links in the forum pages saved there and it will take
you to a Wayback Machine backup of the destination if it's
available. Unfortunately the Wayback Machine backups are very
skimpy, and most threads are not available there.
About priorities, Jack will say better than me. Regarding Jack's
Bransom posts, my idea was trying to see if I could find in the
Google cache some recent stuff (from the last few months) that
is not in Leti's files (which are not completely updated). We
will not be able to get that recent information from the Wayback
Machine, because their 2017 backup is awfully small, and directs
you to 2016 versions of the threads. Therefore Google cache is
the only hope to find any of that.
I haven't looked at all at the advent calendars and stuff like
that. I don't know if Jack has copies of those stories or if he
would like us to try to recover some of those.
Yesterday I was looking to see if I could save from google cache
some info posted by David Katz about his family. I saved some
posts, but there is plenty that can't be found in google cache.
By the way, I don't know if you guys remember the series of
posts about his family that CHRIS made many years ago (the
"patter of little feet" threads). I have discovered that I have
a copy of those in my computer, so that is saved.
Anyway, although the loss of information will be bad, I have to
say that thanks to Leti's impressive backup of relevant Bransom
posts it will be much, much, much less than I expected when I
realized that the old forum was gone for good.

stories, I have then in PDF.
I will look in Google to see what I can find.

Take the "t" out of brans"t"omtx.forumotion.net or you get no
       results.

Okay. I got there. Now how do you save what you find.
I tried right clicking but it doesn't have a save option?
       Edit:
I found I can save in (Website HTML only) by using the gear icon
in upper right corner and can retrieve it afterward.
       Will that work?

I just found a thread about "Pop Test". I am going to have to
go find that story and read it.
       I found "On Spanking: Paddles."

Yes, if you get to a page you want to save, saving as HTML is
fine. That way save a copy of the page in your local computer.

My clicking finger is sore, but I saved 85 items off of the 10
pages of Google cache that I have.
       They are in HTML.
I didn't discriminate. If it had a triangle I saved it. Then
you guys when you try to rebuild can go through and use what is
missing from Leti's backups and store the duplicates in case
       needed some other time.
If you know of other pages that need to be copied, let me know
and I will exercise my clicking finger some more.
There was some 2017 pages in the cache. A couple of Jacks
spanking implements pages, I remember seeing. Some BOTD pages.
