4 May 2019 - Jack and Chat
By: Jack Date: May 4, 2019, 12:34 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
For those who don't know, we have a chat room (link is on the
sub menu above, just before 'logout'.
Chat times:
Monday - Friday: 5pm to 6pm
Saturday morning: 9am to 11am
all
times in US Central Daylight Time (which I believe is GMT +6).
There is also a later chat, but I'm not sure of the usual times.
While there is a regular group of us who do make the chats, and
while I try to participate, I'm afraid that's going to have to
stop.
Josh, who is both the manager of my campus location and has been
working as basically my regional manager, has found a new
position that is much better for him. While I will miss him as
an employee, Josh is 40 years old, and we've been friends since
he was 10.
The thing is, I've been having some trouble with some of the
people who fill my management positions, especially as I've been
expanding the businesses. At this point, the only person I have
who can replace Josh is my son, Daniel. Daniel is well trained
and has been helping Josh with a lot of stuff, while I've been
teaching. However, he's now going to be in the store full-time,
so there are a lot of things I'm going to have to handle again.
This is not a bad thing. I love the stores, and I'm looking
forward to getting back to them. The next few weeks are going
to be really hard, as I finish the school year and get the kids
ready for finals, but I was already planning not to teach next
year.
The thing is, this is going to cut into a lot of my free time
and my time with the kids. While I'll still try to make chat
from time to time, what free time I have left is going to be
split between the kids and personal time.
This is NOT going to effect the rest of the site, except maybe
BOTD. That's especially true since I've hardly been posting
anything lately anyway. I will still try to post when I have
something to say, and I'll try to check in every day.
Hopefully this won't last forever, and maybe things will free up
where I have more time to spend here. That's impossible to say
for now, except wait and see. The important thing is, while I
won't be able to make chat often (and while I will miss all the
people with whom I've been talking every day for months or
years), I'll still be around the forum when I can.
Thanks to everyone for your time and understanding.

Thanks for the explanation. We'll miss visiting with you in
chat and hope the changes in your life will be satisfying. Best
of luck with the store and we'll be glad to see you anytime you
can be available.

Here's a minor correction for our European friends: US Central
Daylight Time is GMT-5, and US Central Standard Time is GMT-6.
Daylight Time applies about half the year during the summer
(i.e. now), and Standard Time applies during the winter.
Changing dates in the US are described here
HTML https://www.livescience.com/56048-daylight-saving-time-guide.html.<br
/> GMT and UTC are essentially synonymous.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I certainly understand. I often
wonder how you find the time to do the things you do. I hope you
find a nice balance and have time for family, for work and for
yourself.

Making time for myself is one of the reasons I will have to miss
chat. As much as I usually enjoy it, I am an introvert, and I
just HAVE to have that mental health time, unless I want to
start falling apart.

I totally get the Introvert and needing alone time. I have
always called myself a hermit. What I never understood about
myself is how good I am at Public service type of jobs with lots
of people involved. That is why some might have difficulty
understanding how someone who teachers and runs businesses and
has a houseful of boys can be an introvert. Maybe it's because
we are introverts that we are good with people. I don't know.
All of that to say. Yes, get your alone time. It's more
important than anything to keep your sanity.

The best definition I have ever heard is that 'an extrovert is
a person who recharges by being around people, while an
introvert is a person who recharges by being alone.' It's not
that we don't like other people, it's not that we're not good
with other people, it's just that we need a certain amount of
alone time to function properly.

I like that definition, because I definitely discharge when I am
around people and recharge when I can be alone.
The strangest thing is, when I am with people they don't believe
me when I tell them I am an introvert. It doesn't show
outwardly, I guess. Well until I get really tired and then I
turn into a grumpy old bear.
Get your alone time and recharge.
