Hopefully Bobby will behave a bit better at school, once he
won't get away with everything there.
Anyway, Bobby's mom needs to step up if her husband is going to
be away so often. I mean, even if she's not willing to use CP,
there are other ways to discipline a child.

I definitely agree with this. On the one hand, I think this is
a fairly new situation, so maybe she's having to adjust. Then
again, Dad must have been military previously, since that's the
only way most people get their pilots license. Maybe Bobby just
behaved better in base settings? On the other, other hand, a
lot of parents do have trouble following through, so....

Bobby and his mom came by my classroom yesterday morning.
I should probably say that we've had a major cold front (for
Texas) the last couple of days. It hardly got above freezing
yesterday, and I was already planning breakfast for supper -
blueberry pancakes, hashbrowns, breakfast meats, oatmeal, and
fried apples.
Mr. Hatcher had arrived home Sunday, but he was sleeping in
after what amounts to one long shift. He did want to talk with
me about what had happened, and so Mrs. Hatcher was asking about
meeting time. I had things I needed to do yesterday afternoon,
so I asked if they were willing to join us for dinner. She
agreed. (Bobby had been to our house before, for the Christmas
Party a couple of months ago).
Apparently part of the reason for the meeting was a
misunderstanding. Mr. Hatcher seems to think that I have more
contact with Bobby than I do. If we'd been at school, I could
have checked his record, but at home, I couldn't even do that.
I had glanced at Bobby's record during homeroom, and I did know
that he hasn't had a problem since I spanked his butt.
Another reason he'd wanted to meet was questions about how to be
more consistent with discipline. I had to admit there really
isn't a way, as long as his Mom isn't willing or able to enforce
things. I did have two suggestions. First, that - if Mom isn't
going to spank as needed - then she needs to find another method
that she can use consistently, and that's somewhat equivalent.
While that's not ideal, it should help some. I also suggested
he should have a long talk with her about Bobby's home behavior
versus school before. If most of his misbehavior when Dad's
gone is at school, then we can clamp down on him more firmly at
school. If it's more at home, or more or less equal, it might
be more of a problem.
Finally, Mr. Hatcher pointed out that, like many of my current
students, Bobby shows a lot of signs of being ADHD, while not
having actually been diagnosed with it, and he's not much of a
reader. He was asking about getting Bobby into my class. I had
to explain to him that I'm not sure if I'll be teaching next
year or not, but it's probably not going to happen - at least in
part because they have expanded the ADHD department so much, and
they don't need me as much as they did even just last year.
On the other hand, I told them about our Summer Reading Series,
and I repeated my invitation for him to visit us whenever they
like. They arrived not long after 6pm last night. Most of our
guests had already left, but it was pretty easy to see that this
is definitely a house where boys are welcome. While I was
talking with his parents, Bobby had a chance to hang out with
C&C, and he seems to get along well with Connor. He is friends
with Glenn and he knows Kline, so he should be fine over here.
To end, I gave him a couple of books of which I have extra. I
told his Dad he can either borrow them or buy them from me if
the boy likes them.
I also invited them to our screening of Captain Marvel Friday
night, so I'm sure we're going to see him again.

seems to me that the best thing fort Bobby is that his mother ,
even if not a good disciplinarian at least recognise there was a
problem. Bobby was just being a little boy who thought that
while the Cat was away the mouse could...

Bobby has visited us several times, but he's a baseball player
(with the BYA, not BCA), so he's been pretty busy on Saturdays,
the same as we have. Still, he gets along with Connor and
doesn't seem to mind Curtis, so he sometimes visits even when
the grands aren't around. They did go see Shazam with us last
week. I'd have to say he's not 'hanging around' so far, but I
expect to see more of him come summer.

Hang about... Hanging around.... I'd say they're pretty much the
same thing.
