Christmas Eve 2018
By: Jack Date: December 24, 2018, 4:05 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
To me, Christmas is really about two things: the spirit of
sharing/the joy that comes with giving; and family.
Christmas Morning is usually pretty intimate (given the size of
our family, anyway). While I once had to split things to keep
my father away from his ex-wives, with him passed, things have
relaxed a lot, so tomorrow morning will be 'just' the boys who
still use the home as their permanent address, Daniel, PJ, Ryan
Tucker, and Jake.
Tonight is going to be different.
Tomorrow morning the boys wake and find their Santa gifts (the
big gifts that are left out by 'Santa' as opposed to being
wrapped) and their stockings. Once everyone is up, we have
breakfast, which isn't usually anything fancy - a casserole of
some type, continental breakfast type foods, and leftovers.
After that's done, we open gifts. That's still pretty exciting
since I do have two under 10s left in the house, so Christmas is
still a huge deal to them.
Christmas Eve, though...
Tonight my brothers - Matt, Michael, Jason, Ben, and Aaron, and
their families will be here, along with Rose and Trent, Mary,
her husband, and Wyatt (who is my es-step-mothers, husband's
son, but is still part of the family), my mom (I don't know if
Ralph is coming or not), my cousins Darren and Ryan (not related
to each other), my nephew Jason and his family, but also his
little brother, Chris, and his family, and then my adult sons -
Steve, Marcus, Chris, Corey and their families, and my 'not
kids' Kevin, Mike, Bruce, and Chandler are all going to be here.
Several of the other adult kids are able to make it this year,
including Bobby, Steven and Troy, Tracy, and Caleb. Parker and
Kaden's moms are going to join us (I think I convinced
Chandler's mom to stay as well). Most important, JD and Charlie
were both able to get leave and be here.
I don't even know how many people that is, but it's a good thing
we didn't take the tents down.
I remember a time in my life when I thought I'd never have a
family beyond that of my parents'. I remember a time when I
thought it would just be me and Van my now. Yet now, I can't
imagine anything better than having all my kids coming home.
Merry Christmas, or Happy Holidays, or may it simply be a
wonderful day, but I wish the best to all of you.

Christmas is my favorite day of the year.
Both of my sisters came over for breakfast. Fried Potatoes and
onions, Fried Eggs and Ham. Toast, butter and Strawberry
preserves.
My brother came over in the afternoon.
Tomorrow will be the day to take down all of my Christmas
decorations. It is supposed to be sunny and get up to 50
degrees. Thursday is warm but raining all day. The weekend is
back down into the 30's for the high. So tomorrow is
de-decorate day.
