'Tis the Season (2018)
By: Jack Date: December 19, 2018, 11:47 am
---------------------------------------------------------
The kids are officially out of school. We had a lot of guests
yesterday, but last night was fairly quiet - Jake and Ryan
Tucker and the grandkids were here, along with the Guthrey boys
(whose parents don't live real close, and them staying over
allowed all of them to sleep in), but it was immediate family
beyond that.
They sat up the tents on Monday, which was good since this
morning we had a heavy fog, and it's been cool and drizzly
sense.
We had eggnog pancakes for breakfast, which filled everyone up
and wasn't too hard to make (or clean). The drizzle has mostly
stopped for now, but it's still only 56F/11C, which is getting
close to the daytime high. Most of the kids are either playing
board or card games or watching movies. A few of the boys who
are more quiet (or more tired) are reading. I already have a
fire going, and the living room floor is a bit of an obstacle
course. About the only exception is the play room, where there
are both video games and a game involving basically all the
action figures in the house. (We have joined DCU, and there's a
Young Justice marathon occurring in the theater).

I have never thought of eggnog in pancakes but sounds good and
makes sense.

It does really sound good.
Unfortunately no eggnog for me this year. No milk. It's a bear
getting old and having to give up the things you enjoy to keep
from having pain. But it honestly doesn't feel like Christmas
without my eggnog. I wonder if I could get away with it in
pancakes?

I don't drink nearly as much milk as I once did, but I don't
have problems with it yet either.
It seems to me that eggnog pancakes are richer and with a hint
of spice, but not that much different. WE make them using
eggnog in place of milk.

22 December.
School has been out here for three days now.
Two days left until Christmas.
And tonight is the Tribal Party.
Linda and Papa Joe are in town. We had some pretty darned nice
weather here today - sunny and 65F. Papa Joe got in a full 18
holes this morning. Linda did some shopping yesterday, so today
was her spa day.
Fido is wearing his Santa vest and hat (with holes cut for his
ears). If he had opposable thumbs, he could probably take over
the role when Papa Joe gets ready to retire, but I'm afraid
more people would recognize Fido.
Daniel, Barry, and Noah took the Van and went to pick up most of
the snacks. Bryce, Ryan, and Kenny are here putting the
finishing touches on everything else.
And me... I'm paying for it all, so I get to sit back and rest
until the guests start to arrive :)
Honestly, while i'm not completely fond of some of the people
who come here (like the Strouse parents), I like most of the
adults, and I love the kids, and this is such a great way to
celebrate. We have lights run out to the tents, including a
couple of trees, so everything looks very festive. The only
problem is when people show up to ask if we're about to have a
Christmas block party.

Have fun! Does Fido like his costume or just tolerates it?

Fido loves all his clothes. I'm not sure if he's chilly or just
vain.
