Re: Invitation to Fuehrer of DEN

The Limo was swamped by reporters hoping to get a sound bite as
it slowed and stopped at the gates of the executive mansion.
Yelling and some even taping on the glass of the windows, "Mr.
President...Mr. President...Your Highness....Your
Highness...could you tell us what you are planning to talk
about!" Overhead there was a news chopper that had probably been
following the motorcade since it left the airport. A group of
secret service opened the gates and pushed the reporters back
from the limo so it could enter the grounds without injuring
anyone.
"Well, your highness", Rubio began, "Most of our nation does lie
in a subtropical climate. While the more northerly states, like
Missouri, do experience your typical four seasons with heavy
snows in the winter. such occurrences are on the rare side in
most of the states. And Florida, well if it even frosts there
the orange growers almost pass out. Which leads to one of the
things I was hoping to discuss with you. With the weather in
your nation, agriculture can't be an easy profession to say the
least." Just as the President finished the sentence the Limo cam
to a halt again in front of the doors to the mansion and secret
service opened the doors on either side of the vehicle for the
passengers. Rubio got out of the car and lead the way into the
mansion.

"Not at all. Those who know how to grow food are practically
employed by the government, and we give them quite a lot of
money to do so. Our scientists are working on perfecting a
version of growing food without soil, and in large greenhouses.
I can't entirely be glad of our predicament, but it does give us
the reason for a colonization. See, we are trying to colonize
Britain, so as to get that food. But I'd love to talk to you
about something that we can do about our predicament." Maximus
replied, and looked around. He followed Rubio into the gate,
moving past the secret service and past the crowds into the
large presidential mansion. He ignored the news crews, and was
actually quite used to that kind of crowd.

After a maid took their coats and hung them to dry President
Rubio lead the Emperor into his office. Indicating a seat beside
the fireplace he asked the Emperor to sit down then going over
to a small bar near his desk began to pour drinks. "Bourbon your
highness? It's one of the many products our nation is noted
for", he added with a slight grin. "Some of the finest Kentucky
bourbon you will ever taste." After pouring himself a small
glass he took a sip and waited for the Emperor's reply."

"Why, thank you, President. I would be grateful for a glass."
Emperor Maximus replied, and nodded, smiling. He had to agree
with Rubio. The beverages were widely regarded as probably the
best of a nation, and he had to say, it showed how much culture
it had. For the better taste it had, the better the culture was,
and the more it was embraced. "We have a particularly nice
brandy, if I may say so myself. Whiskey, too. We found that our
underground stores made great places to brew them."

The President poured Maximus a glass and handed it to him, "Now
for why I asked you all the way down here. I would like to
establish full, formal, friendly relations with your nation.
Even more than that I would like to see our two nations become
each others 'most important bilateral relationship'. To enable
the kind of relationship I would like between our nations I
would like to establish a free trade agreement, a full military
partnership, and establish some sort of border 'agreement' to
allow goods and services to flow freely between our two
nations." Sitting down his glass he looked square at Maximus,
"So, what's in this for us you must be asking yourself, I know I
would. Well, first, Your Highness, our nation is a major
agricultural producer. We produce so much food that the
government has to occasionally buy product to keep the prices up
and the farmers in business. Our two nations sit atop some of
the largest oil reserves in North America. If our nation's oil
companies could easily cooperate, think about what that would
mean for their business. Our nation is the only one in North
America that currently has ports on both oceans. If those ports
were openly friendly to your fleet..."

"You're right... And I must also assume that your craftsmen are
good ship builders, too. Not to mention you are one of the few
nations that can support cattle. We barely have any livestock
here, and what a shame, too." Maximus thought for a second. It
was indeed a grand proposition, and he knew that both sides
would benefit. More than before... He paused, thinking. This..
Free trade pact... What did it mean about his revered
technology? His war machines, the greatest of them all? " I
accept."

President Rubio slammed his drink down and extended his hand
towards the Emperor, "Excellent, your highness. Now I'm sure
there will be details that need to be worked out before any of
us would like to sign anything, but we can leave those up to the
diplomats. In the meantime the cooks have prepared what smelled
like an excellent dinner. Featuring some of the Texas beef you
were going on about earlier."

"Ahh! I would be very much honored if I could join you for such
an exquisite feast. Tell me, my friend, how much for a barrel or
two of this drink? I would be very happy if I were presented the
opportunity to stock up my storage with this fine, fine
refreshment." Maximus asked, and shook his hand with a firm
grip, smiling. He had just won a great deal that would further
benefit them.

Rubio, walking beside the Emperor led him to the dinning room.
When they arrived there Rubio introduced the Emperor to his
wife. when they sat staff began serving the meal. "I believe,
your highness, a barrel goes for something around C$10,000."

"Sounds like an excellent sale price for such an interesting and
tasteful beverage. I'll take ten of them, if you don't mind. How
large are the barrels?" Maximus asked, and shook hands with the
President's wife, smiling and acting very polite and kind. It
wasn't too often he engaged in conversation with people this
kind. He was used to Vladimir not really giving a damn.
