Recap of the Civil War

---------------------------------------------------------
The Civil War began when a group of senators from the
Imperialist Party rebelled against the edict called the Military
Budget Act, seeing it as a sign of capitulation to the many
foreign powers who had in the past defeated Trekylon and imposed
harsh treaties. After months of building Trekylon back to a
semblance of what it was before the Exile, the Military Budget
Act was the final straw for many who saw in their relocation to
Galaxy 23-A (Bode's) a chance to build up sufficient military
strength to challenge the Barlat Concordiat and reclaim their
territories in the Milky Way...and possibly achieve the dream
long held since the Old Guard coalition had driven them from
Earth of returning in force. Vergusson led the group of rebels
into a full-scale uprising against the government of His
Imperial Majesty Drake I, leading to civil war. Despite active
counteroperations by foreign powers such as Ish'Cong and America
(which only further stoked the anti-foreign agitations of the
rebels), the rebels managed to escape Gaia and organize. In the
opening days of the civil war, it was mainly ex-senators and
military veterans injured in the recent wars who led and indeed
fought in the ranks of the opposition. Among the ex-veterans who
rose to prominence was the maimed ex-soldier Aldon Tate, who
soon became Vergusson's right-hand man in the rebel hierarchy.
The first round was fired by the rebels when a Tibanna gas
orbital refinery in the Nihal system was destroyed by a bomb
detonated by a group calling themselves The Fist. The rebels
quickly aligned themselves with The Fist, and at the same time
gained the necessary explosives knowledge when they would later
hold the Imperial-loyal planet of Hellonde hostage using buried
fusion bombs. Immediately after the Nihal Incident, rebels
seized control of Caledonia II by assassinating the Imperial
governor and declaring Caledonia to be a part of their group,
soon to be named the Federal Republic of Trekylon. It was then
that the rebels published a manifesto calling for all patriotic
citizens of the empire to throw off the rule of the Imperial
government and call for the abdication of Drake I and removal of
all foreign influence from within the boundaries of the empire.
They went on to proclaim that the ultimate aim of the new
republican government would be revanchism against those nations
which had for years attacked Trekylon without mercy, driving
them from Earth and later from the Milky Way. Drake I countered
this manifesto with a proclamation calling for loyalist groups
to help take back the systems seized by the rebels, with
promises of vast, sweeping reforms. He also sought foreign help
in maintaining the trade-lanes and in auxiliary support for the
Imperial forces that would assist the Loyalist militias in their
guerrilla warfare against the rebel occupiers. It was as a
result of this that the Loyalists received weapons and money
from the Cherokee, Namekians (allies of Inuyashia) and Klingons
(Founder race of Trekylon), and an Imperial-Kiran expeditionary
force aided in recovering Caledonia II for the empire. Hellonde
was relieved when an American armada, working in collaboration
with an Imperial fleet and an unorthodox officer named Modigh
Tohopka, removed the buried fusion bombs, detonating them on a
red-giant star (which caused no appreciable effects to the
star). Azuria had, during that time, been in the process of
revealing their rebel sympathizers and imprisoning them (despite
the arrival of a Xie fleet, which forced Drake I to call upon
Inuyashia to send a fleet to watch the Xie, and issue a
Memorandum outlining the boundaries of foreign assistance and
making clear the consequences of any foreign attempt to use the
rebel actions as a casus belli to seize parts of the empire.)
Rebel agents working with a rogue Section 31 agent named Harris
provided the rebels with the next great leap, with the secrets
of biological and chemical agents and advanced starship designs.
The rebels put this to especially use when they began a major
shipbuilding operation in an unexplored asteroid belt outside
Imperial space (and so far undetectable, thanks to a shrouding
technology obtained from Section 31). They implemented this
with the theft from an orbital yard of a fleet from the former
Republic of New Texahoma. The current rebel operations are
directed against New Columbia, New Oberon, Ateara V, and
Taborica. Rebel ships are also approaching the Bespia and Olias
systems.
