After Gateway: Backstory and Opening Battles

Backstory:
The first round in the newly named 'Operation Resurrection'
proved successful to the combined Trekylonian-IGF fleets despite
losing over 400 ships and over 150,000 lives. While Concordiat
losses were higher, the news of the first defeat suffered in
Jovepenian history sent shockwaves throughout their society.
Empress Athena, primary executive of Jovepenia, declared her
intention to prosecute the war to its fullest extent. Jovepenian
fleets were organized throughout their territory, ready to serve
either as part of a Concordiat counteroffensive, or as defensive
strongpoints protecting the core systems from Trekylonian raids.
Jovepenian emissaries continued to attempt to convince the
neutral Barlat nations, primarily Ish'Cong and Alexzonya, to
enter the conflict as belligerents, even going so far as to send
an ambassador to Kira's Kingdom, a former Barlat nation, seeking
a rupture with the Laptev Axis and engagement as a belligerent
against Trekylon, recalling the Twist Treaty and the rumored
intention of Trekylon to restore Michael I or one of his sons to
the throne in violation of said treaty. But even as Jovepenia
made efforts to draw more nations into opposition of Trekylon,
agents of Section 31 were moving among the people, looking for
ways to disrupt the war effort...

[i]This is a GNN News Special Report. Live at Galaxy-1, here's
Jake Sisko.
"I'm here on Galaxy-1 just 72 hours after what has been
described as Trekylon's D-Day. Just two days ago a combined
Trekylonian-IGF armada totaling some 125,000 ships engaged a
combined Xie-Rhamos-JVP fleet totaling 135,000 ships. As I
understand it, the battle coalesced around this station which
had been abandoned for five years, but thanks to power
restoration and some slight shoring up of the hull, was able to
hold its own as a stationary weapon platform in the fighting.
Now there is a small garrison fleet patrolling the system,
several techs repairing the sporadic hull damage the station
suffered and passenger ships coming from the nearby Galaxy Gate
bringing settlers and staff to resume the daily operations here.
The armada has left the sector and we're told the Trekylonian
component has spread out into the Milky Way keeping only three
fleets tied to the primary IGF fleet on its way to Verulon
Prime. We do not know the destinations of the individual
Trekylonian fleets and that's for security reasons, though we
can assume they're targeting Xie military assets within their
territory. Later tonight I will be interviewing a family who
will be the first civilians to board the station they were
forced to abandon five years ago and get their thoughts on
returning to the Milky Way galaxy, but for now we'll continue to
bring you updates on the progress of the Barlat campaign,
Operation Resurrection. From Galaxy-1 station, this is Jake
Sisko returning you to regular programming. I'll see you again
at 1400 hours this evening."

Palace. JVP capital city. JVP home-system
Shoguness Bethena was enjoying a nice walk out in the garden. As
a Valkyrie she appreciated the tranquility of the garden as it
gave her shelter from all the problems of state. As of late, she
had become more enamored of her garden than her palatial
chambers due to the problems inherent in running the day-to-day
affairs of the nation. The recent wars with the Commonwealth of
Planets and Tark Empire had taken a toll on her. The more recent
Barlat-Laptev War, while draining on her, did bring dividends to
the nation. Most of all, the feared collaboration between the
Laptev Axis and the nuisance state of Trekylon had been
shattered when America switched sides, forcing the Axis to turn
against their small ally. She stretched her wings in joy as she
relaxed, knowing that so long as the Ishii and Xie held down
Trekylon, there would be no danger of the resurrection of the
evil Harvey family. She heard running footsteps approaching from
behind her, and she folded her wings back against her sides as
she turned to see who was coming.
Grand Duchess Althea ran as fast as her legs could allow,
carrying the most shocking news she had ever heard in her life.
The very idea that such had actually happened was still too
troubling for her to comprehend. She nearly stumbled as she came
to a stop just before she crashed into Bethena.
Bethena - "Why are you running as though the end of the world is
at hand?"
Althea - "Perhaps because it is, Shoguness. The news is
troubling enough it could bring about the end of the world."
Bethena - "What is it? Have the Tark suddenly declared
independence? Are the former Commonwealth worlds in rebellion?"
Althea - "Trekylon has returned to the Milky Way galaxy...in
force."
Bethena - "How large a force?"
Althea - "Large enough to shatter the Xie fleet, as well as the
auxiliaries our commanders provided them, not to mention the
Rhamosians and Serdaris."
Bethena - "That is troubling news. What is the status of our
forces?"
Althea - "They are retreating."
Bethena shivered in shock. The fact a Jovepenian force was in
full retreat from an enemy who was, by their very nature, so
weak that they should've been destroyed was too damning. Had the
fates finally caught up with her people? "I want your husband to
meet me in the Conference Chamber immediately. This matter must
be attended to quickly before those Trekkie gnats get any deeper
into the galaxy."
Althea - "I'll go get him immediately, Shoguness."
She ran back the way she came, leaving a now distraught Bethena
to quicken her own pace as she sought out the Xie ambassador.

Whitestar Alabama, deep in the Outer Reaches of Great Houses
territory
Michael I had taken the time to gather the latest on the
situation taking shape in Imperiopolis. The last news report had
showed a rising tide of protests outside Jovepenian, Rhamosian,
Serdari, and even Ishii embassy buildings as a result of the
Xie-Inuyashia incident. Not long after the trial of the Xie
frigate which had destroyed the passenger liner, taking 557
casualties with it, Inuyashia had made the announcement that the
Xie consul had been given his visa and told to embark on the
first fast-transport back home. Within an hour of the news
breaking, several dozen tourists from the Great Houses, using
visas marked as Laptev, flooded the spaceports in an effort to
flee before the deadline. Sadly, at least three dozen were
unable to leave by the deadline and were now resting comfortably
in detention cells, being given all the considerations due to
civilians in enemy territory including proper medical care,
food, and water. An IGF official and an official from INTERPOL
were both on hand to insure the proper guidelines were being
observed to the letter. so unlike how the Xie, and for that
matter the Kirans and Ishii treated the civilians trapped on
Twist and exposed to orbital bombardment just so they could
claim Trekylon was to blame for abandoning them, he thought
bitterly. He didn't agree with Drake I's determination to keep
out as many of the Barlat nations from the conflict as possible
since, in Michael I's eyes, the entirety of the Concordiat was
to blame. But at the same time, Michael I realized as Drake I
did, that so far as Ish'Cong and Alexzonya were concerned, they
were innocent in the current debacle.
"Sir, you wanted to be notified when the conference was to
start. Its close to that time now", Benez said over the ship's
internal comm.
