Ateara V
By: MichaelH23 Date: February 17, 2015, 2:32 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Birchenshiff Forest, southern continent of Dacalia
The thick forest tended to either muffle or absorb any noise
that cut through the otherwise serene setting. Thick fog and low
cloud rolled through the mist forest at dawn, moistening the
leaves and branches of the trees to such an extent that it fell
like drizzle upon the undergrowth. Small rodent-like mammals
scurried across the forest floor, on their way to their burrows
after a night spent gathering nuts and small nightblooms in
order to escape the more carnivorous rodents and avians of the
wild. Birchenshiff Forest was one hundred miles from the closest
village, and because of the diversity of plant and animal life,
was declared off-limits to all but the xenobotanists,
xenobiologists, and nature-lovers among the villagers.
Until recently...
When the rebels seized the government building in Tiboronia and
other major cities across the planet, their sympathizers began
assuming dominant office positions in the smaller towns and
villages. Their first act was to repeal the laws which prevented
commercialists from exploring the resource potential and urban
expansion the forest gave them. Here, unlike New Columbia, the
Loyalists were almost effectively wiped out by the
rebel-controller Enforcers, and the militias scattered. The
situation had become so serious that Drake I had authorized
General Zelonius to send troops and tanks to the planet. Five
days ago, after a brief battle in which the rebel fleet lost 300
out of 310 ships and the Imperial fleet lost 225 out of 1,500
ships, Zelonius and the rest of the planetary forces were
embarked on transport ships and sent down to the surface. For
tactical reasons, Zelonius had planned to set up their landing
zone/forward operating base on the far edge of the forest. But
intercepted transmissions gave the rebels advanced warning of
the landing area. This forced Zelonius to organize his forces
before the base was even completed. Now Zelonius would have to
face a massive rebel army in a dense, dark forest with little
room to maneuver, no chance of resupply for at least four days,
and with only a token militia force as auxiliaries. The fate of
Tiboronia, Dacalia, and all of Ateara V rests on the battle that
is to come. Defeat here could set back operations to free the
colonies under rebel siege or occupation for months and allow
them to build up for a drive that could reach Gaia and give the
rebels the very thing they seek: revolution.
Zelonius could see through the low cloud and fog as he marched
through the underbrush. His chrome exoskeleton shone brightly in
the pre-dawn light and the extremely low hum of his cervojoints
was quickly swallowed up in the forest. He carried a very large,
very imposing mace that crackled and sparked with free
electricity at the various sharp points. His cape flapped and
fluttered like a red flag as he tromped through the brush.
Behind him, in broken formation and using the trees to their
advantange, the Imperial troops in their distinctive red
armorsuits stalked the underbrush. Also among the redtroops were
the Centurion droid troops, their red scanner-eyes sweeping back
and forth on their faces as they sought the rebels in the thick
soup. Because the forest was so large and so dense, they were
unable to bring their tanks and Juggernauts through. As a
result, a road recently picked up by orbital sensors had become
a vital target for the Imperial forces. Far ahead, shadows
became defined in the brightening fog, and Zelonius knew without
doubt that the rebels were on their way. Without breaking his
forward attention or stride, he called back to his men.
Zelonius - "All troops assume positions. Use the trees, the
brush, trunks, even large rocks as cover."
He finally came to a stop and dropped down behind a rocky
formation. Behind him the other troops had taken cover wherever
they could find them, even sharing the same cover. Zelonius
tuned out the sounds of his own troops and focused on the sounds
of the rebel clone troops as they came deeper into the forest.
Zelonius readied his mace and poised himself to spring out for
an attack, remaining hidden until the rebels drew within range.
He was certain the troops in his command were waiting to see
what their formidable general would do. The minutes passed as
they lay in wait for the enemy to draw nearer. Finally a group
of Clones drew close enough to Zelonius, passing him by merely a
handful of meters. Zelonius rose up from behind his cover and
swung his giant mace with such speed that neither of the Clones
knew what was coming, until it was too late. Both men were
knocked several feet into the brush, neither one rising again.
At that moment, the other Clones turned their full attention on
Zelonius, and suddenly energy blasts were striking his EM
shield. With their attention on the Droid General, they were
unaware of the trap about to be sprung. Imperial Redtroops came
out from behind or beneath their cover, rifles firing. Zelonius,
his EM shield deflecting the energy blasts from the enemy
troops, charged into the melee swinging his mace and using his
closed, metal hand to beat a path through the enemy groups.
Zelonius - "Follow me to the road!"
At his urging the rest of his troops charged forward, their
blade bayonets gleaming. Screams of pain and cries of death soon
overwhelmed the forest's ability to muffle sounds, and
explosions resulting from an exchange of photon grenades between
the opposing forces sent birds and other animals fleeing. In
four hours of fighting in which the Imperial forces not only
fought the enemy but also the rising sun in their eyes, Zelonius
and his troops finally broke through the rebel force and made
their way to the road. Battle continued up and down the road and
on either bank as the Imperial forces consolidated their hold
and the rebels fought just as desperately to break the hold. By
0900 hours Earth time, the rebels had been forced to withdraw,
though they left skirmishers to harass the Imperials.
[hr]
Rebels
Mackon Valide couldn't believe the audacity of the metal general
who had charged into a pack of Clones, taking blaster fire at
point-blank range, yet swinging his mace with such ferocity that
many of the Clones had their skulls split open. He and his
entourage of 500 troops continued to press against the Imperial
advance until news arrived that the dirt road that cut through
the heart of the forest had been taken by the enemy. Valide's
jaw ached, a holdover from a time when he was a captive of the
Kirans, enduring brutal interrogation techniques ranging from
waterboarding to breaking his jaw, mending it whole, then
breaking it again. After he was released as part of the Twist
Diktat, he had the opportunity to finally and fully mend the
nerve and bone damage, but opted instead to keep his wound as a
reminder of Barlat barbarity. Aside from the ache in his jaw, he
had a permanently clenched smile which gave him an almost
frightening appearance. Pulling a communication device from his
belt, he fought the urge to throw it at a tree and instead
activated the device.
Valide - "All troops, fall back to position Zeta 2-5 and
regroup!"
He kept within the forest bounds, to keep from being shot at by
Imperial troops or sharpshooters and charged into the
dissipating fog. An hour and a half later, he made his way out
of the forest and unto a grassy hilltop. One by one, or in small
groups, surviving Clone troops came out of the forest and
rallied at the hilltop. Among the Clones, was his friend Gallo
Italen, a fellow former POW who had helped him during the time
of their captivity by stealing the meager crumbs of food the
Kirans permitted.
Italen - "Almost makes one miss the simpler one-sided stand on
Twist, doesn't it?"
Valide - "Almost. Damned Tamrielan forces wouldn't come to our
aid after we got attacked because of them."
Italen looked down the dirt road, as though looking for the
Imperials. He was thirty-six years old and had nerve damage on
his right side resulting from a disruptor blast inflicted by an
enraged Xie soldier when he refused to lay down his own arms.
Italen vowed revenge against the Xie for the dishonor.
Italen - "How long until the Imperials assemble their forces and
move?"
Valide - "If they've just completed their FOB/landing area,
it'll take them an hour to offload their transport vehicles and
tanks and reform their infantry lines. If not, then it'll be
five hours."
Italen - "We should call in our reinforcements and build up a
defensive work where we can make our stand."
Valide - "Agreed. Get the mobile communications terminal and
contact our reserves in the village, then gather all our
troops."
Italen - "You want to pull troops from Vatella when there's an
enemy fleet capable of transporting troops down and stirring an
uprising against our puppet mayor?"
Valide - "We can bring in fresh Clones to hold down the village
once we pull some troops out to join us. We need to make a stand
here, otherwise Vatella falls to the enemy, and though only a
village, they could serve as a secure base. I'd sooner see the
entire population exterminated and the village razed than allow
that to happen."
Italen - "We may want to consider that plan. The enemy will want
to set up a new FOB and the village will be the perfect place
for it."
Valide - "I'll consider it only if it looks like our rout is
imminent. We'll seize everything that can possibly be used by
the enemy, burn the rest, and slaughter everyone so that the
enemy doesn't receive reinforcements."
Valide walked away, going to assess the Clone soldiers who had
made it to the hill. Italen caught sight of Valide grimacing
slightly as his jaw ached again, and almost as though in
sympathy to his pain, felt a jolt of pain flash up his right
side again.

An hour from Midday, Birchenshiff Forest
General Zelonius walked to the Juggernaut vehicle, which was
already filling with the troops, and opened the passenger-side
door. He climbed inside and gathered his cape close to him
before closing the door. Only three hours before, he had
received word of the nearby village of Vatella and the presence
of rebel-friendly units there. Vatella was vital in securing the
road to Tiboronia, and needed to be taken at all costs. Zelonius
knew, however, that the rebels would build defensible redoubts
and do everything possible to block their movement until
reinforcements could be secured from the other occupied cities.
As Zelonius contemplated how to overcome this liability, he
reached for the headset that would link his communication to the
rest of the assembled forces.
Zelonius - "I want each of you to listen to me. The next several
hours will be critical, so we will need to throw the rebels
off-balance until we can build our strength enough to drive for
Vatella. Artillerymen, set your guns up on the inside edge of
the forest, deep enough inside to avoid detection, but close
enough to give the rebels concern. Mobile artillery will be
moving in ahead of the convoy. Armored division commanders,
flank our convoy and provide screening fire. Snipers, move to
your positions and stand by. Our convoy will clear the forest in
twenty-five minutes. You all know your duties, so I expect each
one of you to carry out your duty. Together we can liberate this
world and restore the rightful authority to the people."
He set the headset down and looked at the driver, who nodded his
head. He pressed the activation button, and with a lurch, the
vehicle began lifting to its maximum height and starts forward.
On the radar monitor, Zelonius can see the other twenty
Juggernauts were following behind. Several minutes passed with
nary a whisper from the rebels. The minutes stretched on, ten,
fifteen, twenty minutes. Finally, Zelonius could see the trees
parting to reveal a hilly countryside, and beyond them, the
village of Vatella.
Zelonius - "Driver, halt the vehicle and deploy the anti-missile
systems"
Without a word, the driver shut the vehicle down and pressed the
controls that activated the anti-missile systems. The systems
consisted of a dual-defense configuration that combined a
missile-jamming field with missile-frying laser beams that
automatically locked on to incoming missiles instantly. Zelonius
opened the door and descended the steps before the vehicle had
sunk to its disembarkation level. Already the ramp in the rear
of the vehicle was dropping like the drawbridge of a castle.
Troops charged out and formed into their lines, much to
Zelonius' approval. Seconds later, the artillery began
commencing with their assault forward.
Artillery fire burst from the mobile batteries as the Redtroops
and Centurions marched forward. Zelonius marched, mace in hand,
straight into the rebel firestorm without flinching, even as his
personal defense screen flashed and flared with energy impacts.
From further behind, the Juggernauts deployed their anti-missile
systems, and began shooting down incoming enemy missiles fired
from the static rebel positions. Zelonius lifted his left arm,
where his communicator band was worn, to his face.
Zelonius - "Bring down the Thunderbolts for air support"
He didn't wait for a reply, instead lowering his wrist and
continuing his march straight into the teeth of the rebel lions'
den. Around his, the troops and droids advanced at a steady
pace, firing into the rebel lines and being struck down by rebel
return fire. Missiles from both sides arced above his head.
Zelonius brought out his gatlin-rod rifle and readied to take on
the rebels that began to break from their positions and charge
down the slope.

UTM fighter group Ogedei, just inside low orbit of Ateara V
Pilot Yesugei Bataljan, call-sign Blue 1, led his fighter group
into low orbit of Ateara V. All 100 fighters kept in tight
formation as they were prepared to execute a jump that would
bring them over the battlezone in seconds instead of minutes.
The UTM force had arrived in the system an hour before, in
support of the Imperial Liberation Forces as they prepared to
land ground forces. Though the Mongol commander Artejei lacked
ground forces to supplement the Imperial troops, he informed
Zelonius that he had sufficient airpower to defend the skies
over the FOBs. Now, as reports arrived that fighting had begun,
he gave the order for the fighters to move in to provide
support. Bataljan led that force.
Bataljan - "All fighters stand by to execute jump on my mark."
They drew closer to the edge of the atmosphere, and Bataljan
fought to tamp down his excitement at what was to come. His life
had been defined not by how he lived, but by the number of
battles he had fought, and it was strongly believed that he
would reach the level of commander within a few months. A shrill
beep broke his temporary spell, alerting him that they had
reached the point from which they would make the jump.
Bataljan - "Jump!"
A momentary loss of communication, followed by an instance of
pure whiteness overcame him in the ****pit, forcing him to
shield his eyes. The moment passed as quickly as it came, and
Bataljan found himself staring at the battlezone spreading out
just beneath him. Signals from the rest of his squadron
confirmed that they had also arrived at their destination.
Pilot #2 - "Blue One, this is Blue Two. I'm detecting signals
coming from the occupied city of Tiboronia. They appear to be on
course for the battlezone and will arrive in approximately 6
minutes."
Bataljan - "Do not bother with them. Thunderbolts are on their
way down and they'll take care of any enemy aircraft. Our
objective is to help punch a hole through the rebel screens so
the Imperials can move on Tiboronia."
Pilot #2 - "Confirmed. Locking on to ground targets. I have four
tanks lined up."
Bataljan - "All fighters, as soon as you have your targets
locked in, break formation and engage. Remember, we need to
obliterate the enemy artillery, AA and armored units so the
Imperials can break through."
He refocused on the enemy targets through his viewport and
brought his fighter into alignment with the target, then pressed
the button and let fly the first of the missiles.
[hr]
Italen was shouting orders at the rebel troops to hold their
ground even as he lost control of them due to the bloodfever
brought on by the fighting. He waved his cane, shouted curses,
and flew into such a rage that were he able to direct it at the
Imperial opposition, he could've destroyed them in one single
blow. Around him, blasts chewed up the ground as the Imperial
tanks and artillery blasted into the rebel lines, and he was in
danger several times of being blasted off his feet. Valide
shouted at the tank commanders to focus more on the enemy
artillery batteries and leave the troops and Centurions to the
clones. Suddenly, a flash in the skies above caught his
attention.
Valide - "Gallo, did you see that flash?"
Italen - "No, where did it come from?"
Valide - "Just above the enemy forces. Could be our fighters
coming to lend air support."
Italen - "Negative. Our air cover and support is coming from
Tiboronia. Those have to be the enemy's own fighters coming to
launch strikes."

Italen looked closely, trying to identify what possibly caused
the flash when both men watched more flashes appear. Both men
watched as tiny bat-like shapes became more discernible in the
blue sky. So oblivious were they of the ground battle that
several soldiers closest to them were blasted apart by missile
impacts, sending pieces of their bodies raining down on the two
men. Valide and Italen wiped the blood and pieces of bodies from
their faces as the first of the UTM fighters began launching
their airstrikes. Valide turned at the sound of more aircraft
approaching.
Valide - "Our fighters have arrived!"
But Italen was now focused on a new cluster of objects dropping
from the skies. He recognized them instantly as Thunderbolt
fighter-bombers, and knew that the battle had truly been joined
at last.
Italen - "So have theirs. Thunderbolts. Get those AA batteries
into position and let's greet them."
Valide - "What about these new fighters?"
Italen - "Our fighters can engage them and keep the Imperial
ground forces distracted."
[hr]
Orbit of Ateara V
Admiral Vastok Kichen was still receiving reports from the other
ships in his task force, codenamed the Ateara Task Force, long
after the ground campaign had come to a temporary end with the
occupation of the forests before Tiboronia. Of the 550 ships in
the task force, only 112 were still relatively undamaged. The
rest suffered either direct damage or system overloads
indirectly linked to the recent battle. Kichen himself sported a
bandage just above his right eye from a piece of shrapnel that
struck there during the heaviest fighting. Formerly a captain
with an astonishing record of stellar cartography and
First-Contact with a dozen races, he was promoted to head the
task force with the rank of admiral by the Flag Admiral. He was
reluctant to accept the new rank as he believed himself more an
explorer than warrior. But as Adama reminded him, there was now
a greater need for warriors than explorers. Kichen's blonde hair
and blonde beard gave him the appearance of a displaced Viking
warrior-king, which he could and often did use to great effect
with his crew and with those who opposed the empire. As a
result, his crew came to respect him and as he found to his
amusement, the rebels came to fear him. As he stood between the
center chair and the viewscreen, all around him his crew carried
out the repairs to the Excelsior-classISS Virtuous.

First Officer Wei Chang, assisting Tactical/Security Chief Walt
Drysom with weapons restoration, caught sight of a sensor
reading that made both men freeze in their efforts.
Chang - "Sir, I'm picking up 75 objects coming out of warp
behind the planet. They're on an intercept course with us."
Kichen - "Extrapolate and determine if it's the rebel
reinforcements."
Drysom - "I have already done so, sir. They appear to be coming
from the same direction those ten rebel ships fled to. Calculate
a 98.5% probability that it is the rebels."
Kichen - "How many ships can we bring to the fore to meet them?"
Drysom - "Repairs have just completed on ISS Alexander Hamilton,
ISS Rhett Butler, and ISS Louis XIV. Inuyashian command has
placed their ships at your disposal, and the UTM ships are
already moving to intercept the rebels."
Kichen - "Status of our weapons and shields?"
Chang - "Shields at 97% strength. Phasers at 87% charge. We have
127 quantum torpedos remaining, sir."
Kichen turned over all the information in his head. It would be
a close match, but with enough room for the rebels to gain a
victory. Should that happen, all ground combat operations were
doomed as the rebels could send in more ground forces and
overwhelm the Imperial forces on the ground. He also realized
that the rebels now enjoyed a 2 to 1 edge over his task force.
But he was determined to defeat the rebel attempt to relieve
their ground forces at all costs.
Kichen - "Send a coded message to the other ships. Top priority
for repairs are weapon systems and shields. Once that's done,
they are to join in battle. All other repairs to be considered
postponed until the battle ends. If we win, they can make them
top priority, and if we fall, it won't make a difference anyway.
Have the Inuyashian ships move to provide support for those
under repair."
Chang - "Message away, sir."
Kichen - "Red Alert. Weapons powered up. Set course to intercept
the rebels. Let's give them a beating so severe they won't want
a rematch."
[hr]
Rebel flagship Vladimir Lenin
Lugo Menes felt a surge of confidence as his reinforcement
fleet, consisting not only of the formerly New Texahoman ships
the rebels had stolen months ago, but the newer dreadnaughts of
the Vergusson and Tate class, moved in unison behind his
battered ship. He was one of only ten ships that had been forced
to flee in the first engagement over Ateara V, and his ship
suffered twice the damage of his Imperial counterpart. Like
Kichen, however, Menes was determined to end the battle for
Ateara V once and for all. His Clone officers and crew worked
feverishly to restore the systems that suffered damage from the
first battle as he watched the holoimage of the enemy fleet grow
larger. He became aware that some of the enemy ships were
getting larger than the rest, which could only mean one thing,
that they were moving to intercept him. Occasionally over the
comm-speakers, reports of the army's losses to the Imperial
Liberation Forces could be heard, punctuated by a loud boom
which made him jump not so much out of fear as from not
expecting the sounds to come so sudden.
Menes - "I want the new ships to move forward and engage those
hated Mongols before the Imperial traitors catch up to them. If
we can shatter the Mongol force, it will spread fear through the
rest of that damned fleet and force them to flee."
Clone Officer #2 - "Sir, I would think you would want to force a
surrender of their space and ground forces to us."
Menes - "No. I want those ships to flee as they made me flee.
Then, I want to nuke their ground forces into oblivion as a
testimony to the determination of the CRE to move on Gaia and
overthrow the weakling central government and their foreign
task-masters."
Clone Officer #3 - "Sir, I have contacts bearing 3-9-0 mark 3.
Mongol ships, with some Imperial auxiliaries. Their weapons and
shields are charged and they're on course."
Menes - "Stand by to open fire as soon as they're in range. Have
the other ships launch fighters with the objectives of isolating
them from their support ships. This is our chance to shatter the
enemy once and for all!"

UTM Battlecruiser Bataar, approaching rebel fleet
Commander Gansukh felt his massive chest swell with anticipation
as his group of ships approached the rebel fleet. His mane of
black hair caressed his shoulders and the set of his jaw was
pronounced as he eyed the enemy fleet. He had come to Ateara to
do battle with the rebels who had caused such mayhem not just to
an ally, but to all the states in this part of the galaxy. He
was fully aware that there had already been a battle for the
fifth planet, as attested by the captured rebel ships and the
damaged Trekylonian ships still clinging to orbit. The recent
arrival of an Inuyashian fleet had also tipped the balance in
their favor, but with the ground battles now raging across
Ateara V, there was still the possibility of rebel
reinforcements that could tip the scales again. His mate,
Tactical Officer Chimeg, had confirmed that the fighter force
dispatched to the planet had not only arrived but had engaged
the rebels alongside Imperial forces. Now she was counting down
the distance between fleets. Suddenly an alarm at her station
broke her countdown.
Chimeg - "Commander, rebel ships are increasing power to their
forward gunports. Missiles going hot."
Gansukh - "All personnel brace yourselves. We're engaging the
enemy fleet."
Chimeg - "Imperial ships moving to rendezvous with us."
Gansukh - "How many?"
Chimeg - "Only 72 ships with slight damage still showing. The
others are still under repair, and the Inuyashians have moved to
cover them."
Gansukh counted out the numbers in his fleet. High-Commander
Artejei had only dispatched a force of 45 cruisers, frigates,
and support vessels to aid Trekylon in the Ateara theater, thus
he was alone outnumbered by the rebels almost 3 to 1. Now with
the few Imperial ships joining him, courtesy of Admiral Kichen,
he was on equal footing with his enemy, enjoying a slight
advantage.
Gansukh - "Forward turbo-batteries lock on. Ready polaron
cannons and missiles. Do not fire yet. Let them fire first."
Chimeg - "We're at optimal firing range now,
Commander.......rebel ships firing."
Seconds later, the ship lurched sideways as the enemy opened up.
Gansukh brought a balled fist down onto the armrest of his
chair, then in his deep bass voice roared the order to return
fire. On the viewscreen, phasers, polaron beams, and missiles
streaked back and forth, nearly every one hitting a target on
either side.
Gansukh - "Chimeg, have our frigates move to flank positions.
Let us surround our enemy."
Chimeg - "Destroyers are giving flanking fire support to
Imperial ships. Cruisers moving to flank positions."
Gansukh - "Chimeg, locate the rebel command ship. I want it as
intact as possible, but crippled of weapons and engines."
Chimeg - "Command vessel located. Moving to engage. Priority to
engines and gunports and missile batteries. What do you wish to
accomplish, my mate?"
Gansukh - "I want to plant my banner on her bridge and stand
over her commander's broken body. What any Mongol wants."
Chimeg - "Then you shall have it, my love."

Rebel flagship Vladimir Lenin
Commander Menes watched as the Mongol ships began to flank his
flotilla. He knew that they would attempt to surround his fleet,
then hammer at them from all sides. He had given the order to
spread his own frigates and destroyers out to meet the Mongol
assault, but as the battle developed-with his ship taking hits
from four Mongol battleships-he soon realized that he had made a
tactical error. Even as the conduits along the bulkheads nearest
the turbolifts exploded with power surges, consoles flickered,
and damage-control teams fought a desperate battle to save or
salvage ODN circuits, he realized that the Mongols had separated
his ship from the rest of the fleet.
Menes - "Break off! Get us back within the fleet before they
disable us!"
Clone Officer #1 - "Commander, we cannot break off. The Mongols
have cut us off."
Clone Officer #3 - "Commander, our forward batteries are down."
Clone Officer #4 - "Commander, I'm picking small objects being
launched from the Mongol ships. They may be torpedoes or
missiles."
Menes roared in frustration as the other clone officers
continued to read out damage reports or enemy fleet movement
reports. Three minutes later, a klaxon blasted over all the
chatter. Menes knew what the klaxon meant. They had been
boarded.
Menes - "Get the troops to the breached corridors and tell them
to hold their ground at all costs!"
[hr]
Baltai scrambled from his bulletpod the moment the doors petaled
open. Looking around, he located the other soldiers of the
boarding party already securing their location. Gansukh had
placed him in charge of taking the ship, once the weapon
batteries and shields had been neutralized. Confirming that all
members of the boarding party were present, Baltai brought his
pulse rifle under his arm and started forward. Two other Mongol
warriors took up flanking positions around him as they made
their way up one corridor and down into another. Baltai knew the
plan well, for he had been the one to come up with it. The plan
called for separate boarding parties of a dozen men arrive in
clusters which totaled twenty that would be scattered all over
the ship. The objectives were the engineering rooms, computer
core control, sensor control and the command deck, where they
would capture the enemy commander alive. Baltai's cluster had
penetrated the hull in their bulletpods close to the command
deck.
Baltai - "Remember, we don't move until we have confirmation
that the engineering and computer core control rooms have been
secured. Without computer control, the rebels will not be able
to seal off the command deck or deploy intruder
countermeasures."
Soldier #1 - "Yes sir."
Baltai - "If one of our group gets injured, he is left behind.
We close ranks and press on. If they manage to survive, we'll
find them once the ship is taken. If they don't survive....then
Tengri be with them."
They continued down the corridor, until they reached an
intersection. Baltai crept slowly toward the intersection and
stuck his head out to where he could see. Moving shadows told
him that the rebels were alerted to their presence. Baltai
pulled back, gesturing to his troops to form a firing line and
engage the enemy. Moments later, energy blasts tore into the
bulkheads of the abutting corridor as the rebels charged
straight into an ambush.

Outside Engineering Room, Vladimir Lenin
Nogai-Temur had forced the doors open using his brute strength.
Moments ago, a device was attached which rendered the doors
inoperable and hence made it easier to pry them open. As the
largest and most muscular individual in the boarding party,
Nogai-Temur felt up to the task. On either side of his huge
build, soldiers stood ready to rush in and engage any clones
they came across. The doors gave way slowly, with a grinding
sound like rusty gears. As soon as a large enough space opened
up, both soldiers pushed past their commander and charged into
the room, weapons firing. The return fire scorched the door
panels and Nogai-Temur barely escaped getting blasted. He
brought his own weapon to bear before charging in.
Nogai-Temur - "Get to the controls. We need to deactivate the
systems which control security and and intruder
countermeasures."
Several of his men managed to shelter behind railings and
nonfunctioning consoles. But a few were shot down before
reaching their target. Nogai-Temur growled in rage, threw down
his blaster and unsheathed his scimitar. Pushing aside two of
his soldiers, he charged into the near-darkness. Seconds later,
the sounds of screaming could be heard in the blackness,
followed by the swooshing of the scimitar. Nogai-Temur reached
the controls and began deactivating the systems. Moments later,
the engines powered down, bringing further darkness to the room.
Nogai-Temur - "I'm leaving five people to hold this room. The
rest of you are with me. We need to join Boarding Party 3 at
Core Control."
He selected his five people, then gathered the rest and exited
the room quickly.
