Rescue of the Empress
DIR By: MichaelH23

10 miles from Unknown Fortress, Planet PG23A-CM9102, unclaimed
space 10 parsecs from Inuyashia and Trekylon common border
Michael I brought his motley group of Centurions, Jem'Hadar,
Imperial Knights, Panther Guard, and Inuyashian Lady Samurai to
a small cliff about 7,010 feet from sea level, overlooking a
rather innocuous fortress on a rocky hilltop, surrounded by
trees. He had arrived here only two hours ago aboard his
personal fighter Centurion after leaving the raging space battle
over New Columbia. He still held regrets about assaulting his
successor Drake I, and was thankful the younger man didn't hold
a grudge as a result. He was equally thankful for the Centurions
and Jem'Hadar Drake I loaned him for the rescue mission as Drake
knew that Inuyashia could not long function without its ruler.
Michael I agreed with that assessment, even though he was also
equally sure that Hansuke San could fill in the executive gap
alongside Kenzo Suzuki. He pushed those thoughts to the back of
his mind as he brought his binos to his eyes for a closer look
at the fortress. Beside him, Jem'Hadar Second Iman'atar grunted
as he hefted his rifle to his side.
Michael I - "Doesn't look like much."
Iman'atar - "It may not look so, but it could be very imposing,
Majesty."
Michael I - "Very true. Thankfully, I have you and your men to
scout out the perimeter while shrouded."
Iman'atar - "We will not fail you, Majesty."
Michael I - "I have every confidence in you and your men. Move
out. We have three hours til sundown and I want to make the most
of the daylight."
Iman'atar scrambled down the escarpment, shouting orders to his
men. Michael I turned in time to see all fifteen of them shroud
themselves as they headed down the path leading from the cliff.

Inside the Fortress. Command and Control Center
Omar Livinov enjoyed few things in his checkered life more than
he enjoyed torture. While the Empress of Inuyashia was his
favorite victim, she was by no means the only one. Two days ago,
the same mercenaries who had captured the empress had also taken
the Princess of the Namekian Empire. She was proving to be just
as challenging as the empress, and many times he found himself
watching the torture from a dark corner of the Interrogation
Room. He had hoped to force the Namekians to abandon their
special relationship with Inuyashia by torturing the princess
and at the same time leaving 'evidence' implicating the
Inuyashians in her kidnapping. But because the Inuyashians had
closed their borders immediately following the kidnapping of the
empress, he was forced to abandon the plan before the second
phase could begin. He had formulated a new plan when word
reached him of the kidnapping of the three youngest children of
the Inuyashian empress and former Trekylon emperor. The man
credited with the kidnapping, Septimus Severus, had disappeared
shortly afterwards..where it was rumored he was now working in
collusion with Trekylon and the Vulcan Federation to rescue
them. He personally believed that Severus had been made a
scapegoat because of a similar kidnapping that happened back
during the Roman War. While he highly suspected Severus of going
traitor and doubted his culpability in the kidnapping of the
young heirs to Inuyashia and Trekylon, he now saw a means of
separating the Namekians and Inuyashians, maybe even provoking
war between them, which he believed would force Inuyashia to
withdraw its ships from the multinational coalition and weaken
further Drake I's government. As he sat, surrounded by screens
which displayed both the prison cells and the various
interrogation chambers-both filled with captives-and puzzled
over his new opportunity, Clone Commander Razor walked in,
flanked by two more Clone troopers. Razor came to a halt just
feet from the chair and saluted.
Razor - "Sir, perimeter guard reports no activity outside the
walls, or in the valley."
Livinov - "I'm surprised by this news, Clone. By now Michael
should know about his beloved's kidnapping and be on his way to
look for her."
Razor - "If he knows, then the Inuyashians know as well. He may
have been the former emperor of Trekylon, but he's just as
highly revered in Inuyashia. If he's coming, he's likely
bringing Inuyashian ships with him."
Livinov - "Good point. I want the theta-band scanners increased
to maximum power immediately. I don't want to be unprepared when
they arrive."
Razor - "I will see to it myself, immediately."
Livinov - "Dismissed."
Razor saluted again, then turned on his heel and marched from
the room, his two troopers flanking him as before. When the door
hissed closed, Livinov rotated his chair back to the wall of
viewscreens and leaned back, ready to enjoy another night of
cruelty and pain inflicted on others.

The Empress lay in her small cell chained by her ankles to the
wall. Her captors knew they didn't need to chain her after what
they had done but they did it all the same. Her body was broken
in more ways than one. She was sure there were some broken ribs,
her left shoulder felt dislocated, her right ankle couldn't bear
any weight even the weight of the chains. She was black and blue
all over and her mental capacity was destroyed by that damn
telepath. Emotionally drained but unable to sleep or even doze
for fear of seeing those sights again she lay there not moving,
not seeing, not thinking. She'd even begun to lose hope that her
husband was coming.

Iman'atar and his men reached the base of the fortress wall
after a 20-minute jog, shrouded, from the escarpment. With
careful precision and surety, the Jem'Hadar launched
grapple-hooks into the air, where they clacked against the wall
and locked themselves into place. The ropes dangling from the
hooks had been tested and proved themselves more than able to
hold the heavy weight of the Jem'Hadar and their energy rifles
and kar'takin blades. They remained shrouded and made the ascent
up the wall, reaching the top within ten minutes. They made
their way down the stairways on either side of the forward wall
and entered the courtyard. Their target, the imposing keep,
towered above them. Two Jem'Hadar made their way back up the
stairways and reached the guardhouse, unshrouding long enough to
kill the two sentries and release the locks to the main gate
before shrouding again and rejoining their comrades. Iman'atar
felt a surge of pride in his men having accomplished their
objective. He brought up his wristcomm to his lips and gave
Michael I the confirmation that the gate was now open. Then,
they waited, shrouded, for Michael I and his rescue force to
charge inside.

Michael I and the rest of his Strike Team made their way to the
base of the fortress. Michael I could see the formidable
defenses waiting for the hair-trigger alarm. Pointing to the
Lady Samurai, he gestured toward the walls. With a nod, they
moved to the base of the wall, then brought out their
grapple-guns. Pointing upward, they fired, sending a dura-strand
cord skyward with its grapple on the end. Within a moment, the
rope got taunt, indicating that the grapples had locked on deep.
They affixed the other end of the cords to a winder on their
belt, then pressed a single button and began their rapid skyward
ascent. Michael I next pointed to the company of Imperial
Knights gifted him by Emperor Drake I, and gestured toward both
sides of the main gate. Their role would be to guard the
exit-point until Michael I and the empress emerged from the
fortress. As they took their places, Michael I brought his
wristcomm to his lips.
Michael I - "Iman'atar, you and your men are go for gateway
open. Once those charges go off, every alarm the mercs have will
be screaming, so be prepared to charge inside to take on any
opposition."
Iman'atar - "Yes Majesty""
Michael I waited while the shrouded Jem'Hadar set the charges.
Behind him, the Centurions' red eye continued their oscillating
back and forth as they awaited their command. A minute later an
explosion blasted a large piece of the gateway apart. Michael I
counted out an additional five seconds before pointing to the
Centurions.
Michael I - "Centurions, go!"
Centurion Captain - "By your command"
The Centurions charged inside the fortress with Michael I on
their heels. As he expected, the moment the gateway had been
blasted open, alarms began sounding. Mercs were emerging from
seemingly everywhere at once, and soon the air was filled with
directed-energy rounds as both sides unleashed their full might
on each other.
---------------------------------------------------------
Livinov was almost certain that Inuyashians rallied behind the
former Trekylon emperor would mount a rescue of the imprisoned
empress, but when the alarms began blaring, he was still caught
off-guard. As he ran to check the orbital monitors for signs of
an Inuyashian battlegroup entering orbit, other officers were
checking the surveillance cameras scattered across the fortress
in key locations. It was Razor, however, who brought the news to
Livinov as he frantically scanned the orbital plane.
Razor - "Sir, commanders report making contact with droid troops
in the main chamber."
Livinov - "Droids? Inuyashia has no droid troops. Only Trekylon
has them, and they're not that advanced."
Razor - "It would appear that Trekylon has made impressive
advances in droid technology since you last served in the IM."
Livinov turned an angry glare on the Clone commander, not
wanting to be reminded of his years of service in which he was
forced to retreat from Amaterasu before he could personally
plant the Imperial flag on the Kiran capital city.
Livinov - "I want all troops available to form a holding line at
the cells of the princess and empress. I know who it is that's
come and I will not allow them to reunite. I want the former
emperor alive if possible...but if necessary....kill him, in
front of the hapless empress if need be."
Razor - "Should you not call for reinforcements?"
Livinov - "There is no Inuyashian fleet out there. Not even a
cloaking trace from a Romulan phalanx. No need to call for them.
Besides, I want the glory of ending the life of Michael I for
myself. Just deal with his entourage."
Razor - "Yes sir."

Laser blasts ricocheted off the walls as mercs and droids fought
it out. Michael I, his lightsaber swinging, hacked his way
through a group of merc soldiers before bounding up the stairs.
He was the only one aware of the Jem'Hadar presence surrounding
him as he charged up the steps. He reached the top only to come
upon another group of mercs guarding the dungeons.
Michael I - "Iman'atar, go!"
As the mercs trained their eyes and weapons on the former
emperor, Jem'Hadar troops appeared literally from thin air,
kar'takins and polaron rifles flashing. Mercs were caught
unprepared as the Jem'Hadar brought their weapons to bear,
slaughtering nearly all the mercs. The rest charged Michael I in
desperation. He swung his blade and brought their desperation to
an end with finality. He brought out his tricorder and began
scanning for the empress' life-signs as Iman'atar and the rest
of his men secured the corridor. Michael I was shocked to
discover a Namekian life-sign within one of the cells. How in
the Hell did a Namekian end up in captivity, he asked himself as
he brought his sword to cut the locks keeping the door shut. The
locks dropped with a clang, and he pushed the door open to find
a half-starved, half-naked Namekian girl huddling in a corner.
Michael I - "Its okay. I'm here to free you. I know your people
are looking for you."
Timpani - "W-who are you?"
Michael I - "My name is Michael. I was the emperor of Trekylon.
You must be Timpani. I met you when you were only 3 Earth-years
old."
Timpani - "You were very kind to me. You gave me a candy treat."
Michael I - "You remember my wife, the Empress of Inuyashia?"
Timpani - "Rebeka?"
Michael knew the correct spelling of his wife's name, but also
knew that little Timpani had never been able to pronounce her
name properly.
Michael I - "Yes, Rebeka. I'm looking for her. The same evil men
that took you took her."
Timpani - "Don't hate me for saying this.......but I hope she
died quickly. If they did to her what they've done to me, she's
likely to be broken."
Michael I offered his hand to her. She took it. With his other
hand, he cut the chains holding her.
Michael I - "There are Jem'Hadar guards outside. Go with them,
they will protect you."
Timpani limped slowly out of her cell. Michael I helped her as
far as the closest Jem'Hadar, then returned to scanning the
cells for the empress. After a short period in which he began to
fear she had indeed died, her life-sign had been detected. He
acted quickly, cutting the locks and kicking the door open. He
found her semi-conscious and curled up into a ball.
Michael I - "REBECCA! Honey....please speak to me.....let me
know you're okay."

Rebecca's eyes slowly came into focus. Was this a dream, a
hallucination or was it real?
Rebecca cried out hoarsely and barely audible -
"Michael................?"

Michael I entered the cell and dropped down next to his beloved.
Michael I - "Yes, its me. I've come for you. I got Jem'Hadar,
Centurions, and Lady Samurai here. I also found the Namekian
princess."
Without waiting for her response, he cut her bonds, scooped her
into his arms, and charged back into the corridor to meet with
the Jem'Hadar.
Michael I *to Iman'atar* - "I have the empress. Start setting
the charges and let's go."
Timpani - "Charges?"
Michael I - "They violated Namekian sovereignty to abduct you.
They took someone dear to me, and they work for the rebels. They
crossed a line that should never have been crossed. Now, they
will pay dearly."

Rebecca lifted her one movable arm to her love's throat and held
on as she was carried away. She couldn't hear anything more nor
wanted to. His touch was enough for now. Her body ached from the
sudden movement but if this was the price to be
safe..............It was small and insignificant. She
mumbled.."Thank you."

While the remaining Jem'Hadar set to work setting the charges,
Michael I, Rebecca I, Timpani, Iman'atar, and the other two
Jem'Hadar made their way back down the stairs. A group of mercs
charged upstairs to cut them off, but before they could bring
their weapons to bear, Iman'atar and the other Jem'Hadar charged
them, knocking them back down the stairs in a tustle of arms and
legs. Michael I thought he heard the bones of their necks snap
from the impact as they collapsed to the floor, dead. Rebecca I
moaned in Michael I's arms as they continued downstairs. Ahead
of them, the constant fire of energy weapons continued, though
at a more subdued rate. As they neared the main chamber, Michael
I could see why. Nearly all the mercs were dead or dying, and
the few that remained were still desperately fighting. When they
saw Michael I with their captives under Jem'Hadar guard, they
realized they had failed. They dropped their weapons and lifted
their arms to the air in surrender.
Michael I - "You should've thought of that before you kidnapped
my wife. Its too late now."
With a gesture, Michael I gave the command to shoot them dead.
Centurion - "There are more enemy soldiers coming."
Michael I - "That's fine. We did what we came to do. The other
Jem'Hadar have set the charges, so even if these survive the
destruction of the fortress, they're broken as a threat. Let's
go."
Centurion - "By your command."
Michael I led the entourage out through the open gateway. Harsh
sunlight greeted the empress' eyes as they made their escape,
joined by the company of Knights.
