I know most of you guys are concentrating on building the
mechanical aspects of Johnny 5. There's even some software
development being done for control systems and such (I watched a
video on Johnny Five Programming by Devin that was awe
inspiring). I get the impression that not much has been done
with the conversation and learning aspects though. This is an
area I hope I may be of some assistance.
I've developed some chatbot conversation programs and basic
learning algorithms that may prove useful to making a more
interactive experience for this project. I'll be developing my
ideas further using a NAO robot, but I don't see why the same
ideas couldn't be applied to this project. At the very least I
can help fill some empty space in this AI section of your site.

Our facial recognition programming keeps a database of faces,
which is as close to learning as this robot is right now. We
may have small aspects of AI as a part of the software, but
safety is key with the robot and AI is not really at a level
that I feel comfortable working too much in at this point. I am
excited to see some of your concepts and ideas though!

Not to worry. The kind of AI I envision adding to Johnny would
be purely for conversation and interacting with basic, "safe"
functions. Keyword recognition with added complexity to give
people the impression they're having a conversation with a
person and have a simple method of commanding the robot.
Certainly not near any level where you'd have to consider things
like the 3 laws. ;)
