       Air Conditioner Control
By: Generic Date: March 20, 2024, 9:10 pm

So, I've been using preprogrammed AC remotes that are based on
learning remotes, because guests (and particularly guests from
the US) have a tendency to set the temperature on the AC to
silly low numbers because they don't understand Celsius. So I
       had set temp buttons.
Well, two days ago, I bought central control remotes for "split"
AC that are programmable. Well, the new remotes by MYSA actually
have SETPOINTS! Woohoo. You can set an upper and a lower limit
and change them over time. So I can set a low of 20c and a high
of 28c in the summer and a low of 15c and 22c in the winter.
Woohoo! No more fighting with guests.

Nice to have the ability to set limits. Last year we replaced
ancient TTW heat and air units with newer heat pump version that
allows setting limits and shows an actual temperature setting VS
the old warmer/colder settings. Guests seem to like them and
steers them away from the choice of max hot or cold.

In May I will put the A/C units in the windows. The only time
either A/C or heat is on is if the rooms are occupied. I DO
leave the heat on (low) in the bathrooms upstairs when the temps
dip REALLY low. I close all doors upstairs to keep the cold in
those rooms. In the really cold months I rarely HAVE guests to
be adding to my electric bill. I will know in about a week what
the visiting nurse has done to the electric bill. She cam in the
       end of February.
Got Electric bill today - went up $46 & change. I can live with
that - getting enough income to make it OK. Early on had 2
student teachers that gave me a $300+ electric bill - THAT is
       why I was concerned.

That's great. 20C is good for a low. I think of 20 as the
perfect outdoor temp, and works even better when people are
inside, out of the sun, and mostly laying around.
I've pretty much mastered thinking in C because we've hosted 3
exchange students over the years, one a Belgian Walloon
(French-speaking) and two Swedes. Hosting exchange students is a
wonderful experience. I highly recommend it.
The Belgian boy married a Belgian Jewish girl who grew up in
Canada, and they live in Israel now, so he's in the middle of a
horrible situation, with the Gaza situation. His son and
daughter are "army age" and liable to be drafted back into the
Israeli military any time now. What a world we live in, and how
interesting that I'm dearly involved with all my heart just
because we hosted him for a year many years ago.
