Re: This is a first. Stole my duvet!

And it continues. Today my housekeeper reported that an antique
desk chair was missing from the bedroom and 2 of the 4 dining
table chair cushions were missing!
I emailed them about it, and said I'd be charging their card. As
with the duvet missing earlier, ResKey shows me that they have
opened/read the email but did not respond, which I take as an
admission of guilt and acceptance of the debt.
I always charge a little more than the replacement on these
thefts, so it's no big deal because I come out ahead,
financially. But imagine carrying a chair and two cushions out
of a place, putting them in your car and driving off without
saying a word about it!

That isn’t hiding an embarrassing mess. That is stealing.
I’ve had only very weird stuff stolen. In one room, I had a
jar of sea glass I’d collected. One day, I noticed it was only
half full.
I use a set of oblong ramikans to set the serving spoons on the
buffet. One went missing. I only had four so it was clearly
gone.

Oner Labor Day weekend I actually SAW a pillow leave but said
nothing as I was not sure he had not brought one. Nope 1 pillow
missing - it was from the extras bin. THEN when I did the
dishes, found I was short 1 Gillum House mug - THAT hurt because
I was down to 5 and my potter has ben battling cancer so not
potting. No, I said nothing (I think it was the kid) because
that family (one of the brothers) gave me the king-size4 bed, 2
king-size coverlets, and a table-size ice maker. Not happy with
the kid but stuff happens - and yes, I do give them a special
rate as a thank you for generosity over the years.

The kid probably justified it in his mind, thinking "she owes us
this." People often find a way to justify things like that. I
predict the kid will eventually be called on that sort of thing
and, perhaps, learn the lesson. Some do, some don't.

OK, it's solved. Turns out the people in the room where the
stuff is missing are related to people in a different room who
don't leave until Wednesday. We had no idea.
So the missing chair was carried to the relative's room to chat
a while, not returned, and didn't tell anybody. Luckily I didn't
buy a new chair.
And the missing dining chair cushions: She says, oh those are
under the couch cushions. I wanted to sit a little higher!
On that count, I'd already ordered replacement cushions, and
they've been shipped, so they'll have to pay me $58 for the
cushions, but at least we will get the chair back when the
relatives leave Wednesday. I'd already charged $145 for that,
but can refund it.
Though I should keep about $45 of that for a PITA charge! I've
spent a couple of hours on this, double checking the room (but
never dreaming of checking under the couch cushions), ordering
replacements, going to a store today looking for a replacement
chair (luckily, didn't find one), and all the email and charge
card hassle.

It wouldn’t occur to them that they’ve caused work for you.
I had someone rearrange the art in one room causing one picture
hanger to pull out of the wall.
Just enjoy the room!

Hmmm, is you couch sagging a bit that they went for the
cushions? They sell these undercouch supports now, that you just
lay underneath

It's a sofa-bed whose fold out mechanism no longer works, so
it's now just a couch. Yes, the cushions sit a bit low thanks to
the collapsed inner workings.
I'll buy a new couch someday, but in the mean time this one
still looks good. I think a sheet of plywood under the cushions
will solve the problem, but have you priced plywood lately?
Within the larger picture, it's not a high priority!
Morticia taught me long ago to not make a major change just
because one person, out of hundreds, complains.
I miss Mort. Not daily, but at least monthly! And I suspect/hope
she thinks of us occasionally. Wish I knew how their retirement
is going.

Along the same line of stealing, it's the time of year when I
check the first aid kits I supply in each bathroom. They are
full of assorted bandages, tape, scissors, tweezers,
disinfecting wipes, etc. Two of them were 90% cleaned out, and
one of them was completely gone.
If it's not tied down, they'll take it. I expect them to be
used, that's why they're there. But I very much doubt that many
bandages were needed in the last 6 months!
