This is a first. Stole my duvet!
By: Arks Date: September 17, 2023, 1:30 pm

Had a couple arrive in town yesterday morning (I let them occupy
the room at 11 a.m. so they could change clothes for an early
afternoon wedding). After they left this morning, my housekeeper
called me and said the duvet and duvet cover are gone! We've
looked everywhere. It's not there!
We have a spare cover, but no spare insert, so we'll put a
blanket in it for now. New guests arriving tonight. I ordered
replacements, which came to right at $200, which I'll be adding
to their charge card.
I can only guess someone had too much to drink at the wedding
reception and got sick. The sheets are fine, but they took the
duvet with them!
I miss Morticia. She had stories of woe like this all the time!

I would try to call them and ask what happened to the duvet.
Maybe it's hidden somewhere, and you'll have a better story to
tell. Probably help document charge if they charge back.

I e-mailed and asked them that. Reservation Key can monitor if
and when the email is opened, how many times they look at it,
time of most recent viewing, etc. So I can see that they did
open the email about an 90 minutes ago. So far no response, so
in a couple of hours I'll charge their card the $198 due me (no
pay for my time and trouble, just asking for exact replacement
cost) and we'll see. Let the battle begin!
They're paying about the same for the taken items as they paid
for their one night stay. I really wonder why they took it. Has
to be because they damaged it. But why not just leave it?

About 8 p.m., I charged the card and sent a receipt for the
additional charges.
The receipt email has been opened, but still no reply. I'm
taking silence as admission of guilt. If they didn't do it,
they'd certainly be protesting by now!
But now I'll never know what happened to the duvet. I can only
imagine.

If I had to bet, I’d bet it is covered with any one of, puke,
blood, wine, chocolate…..gotta stop there.
Report it and pay the extra cleaning fee.

Had a guest with a dog (2 of my 5 rooms are dogs OK). On leaving
she asks me to charge her for a replacement bath mat; I say I
can try to clean it; she says oh, no, it's already gone.
Apparently, they all went to a big BBQ and nobody was keeping
track of the dog who got into the garbage. They had to take the
dog to the vet in the middle of the night.
Better she told me though.

You are buying expensive duvet inserts. I use the cheap ones by
Utopia. Under $30, so essentially disposable. I like their duvet
covers because the shams are envelope style, rather than split
in the middle. And being microfibre, they dry quickly.

We had a young bride whose dad got them a stay with us for the
wedding night. She never made it down to breakfast, wanted
breakfast in her room (we don't offer that). And they took the
shampoo and body wash (refillable pump bottles)! We charged her
dad for that. I felt sorry for the new husband and for the dad.
