       Discount for Returning Guests?

Hi Everyone! I'm wondering if you offer a discount for
returning guests. We seem to have a lot of people returning,
and I'm not sure how I should handle it. They are wonderful
guests, and we love to welcome them back; should we offer them
an incentive in the form of a discount/small gift, etc. Thanks!

No way. We have to make a living and have only a handful of
rooms. For big hotels, a discount on one room is spread over a
few hundred rooms. Good for them.
In our case, it's 100% money taken from our nearly empty pocket.
       No can do.

No need - they come back because they love you AND your place. I
had guests recently who not only brought me at least 20 pounds
of ground venison for me to make into sausage as needed (this is
at least the third time they brought me ground venison) BUT
posted photos and a glowing review on FB saying they had been
coming here for 17 years (which means rate raises along the
way). There are gaps - they do not come every year (this one was
part of her Christmas - a card saying includes a visit to
Kathleen's), but I will never forget their arrival on the 4th
visit. He walked in the door and asked, "Where do you have us
going this time?" as I usually had a day trip route for them.
Noe they come to go to the flea market and visit with me.
I only discount Military, Police, & Fire as a thank you for
serving us. I also beg B & Bs to participate in B & Bs For Vets
       in November.

I'd much rather give a fair price to everyone than play the
retail game of posting a high price with a discount. I believe
my guests return and offer good reviews because of fair
treatment and a decent place to stay. Hopefully the rate was
already favorable. Now if you see an opportunity to do a little
something for that guest, great. There are often little things
we can do to show our guests that we care that don't require a
formal plan. Make a deal IF IT SUITS YOU AT THE TIME.
If your guests are returning, sounds like you are doing the
right thing already, keep on being you. If the underlying
question is how to get more to return, I think it just takes
time to build that reputation. Just keep treating guests like
       friends.

No discounts. However, sometimes if I have a better room
available, we will upgrade guests who have been here 4 or 5
times. We have many guests who've stayed with us 12 to 18
       times!

Yeah, no discounts. Frankly, we are underpriced. Our return
guess know we are a good deal.
