10PM and Where Can I Find A Hotel With Free Parking In The Inner
City

Yup, that was a call last night. Free parking, school/university
starting and all in the inner city.
I'm booked out for the next 2 weeks and I don't take
reservations after noon anyway. So he asks a favour, where can I
find a room at this hour and free parking.
Free parking? What would happen if you asked for a hotel with
Free parking in Manhattan? Boston? Chicago? Toronto? Well....
free parking is something you have in the suburbs, not the inner
city. I tell him the neighbourhoods that will have parking, but
warn him that they are 30 minutes out of the centre of the city.
So, which would you recommend?
NONE OF THEM. Goodnight.
What I didn't say? Well, it's a great way to RUIN your vacation
to stay in the suburbs. It means you need to bring you car into
the city and pay for parking all day. So what you save in
parking you lose in time travelling back and forth and then pay
it out for parking during the day. Car centric thinking doesn't
work when you are in a very urban city. Parking in Toronto will
cost you $40 a day. Parking in NYC will cost you $70 a day.

This is akin to the ones who call at 21:00 wanting a room for
the night. Maybe if you are asking a hotel out in the
countryside (there are no hotels in the countryside), but
downtown I can only say, you should have taken care of this
weeks ago. Idiot.
