       I had a 1- night, 2-room reservation for 2 Irishmen from NYC.
       they are now retired and have taken up bicycling. the had heard
       about our North Bend rail Trail (72 miles of trail) and came to
       ride it.
       They asked about food and I told them the places in town and
       said if they wanted an "adult beverage" the 3 choices wee the
       American Legion, the Moose, or the restaurant on the corner from
       my house - which is where they went. The man on the right in
       this photo called the Mayor - you have to come over to Casey's
       and meet these guys. The Mayor posted this on Facebook:
       “A Burger, a Beer, and a B&B. Shinnston checked all those boxes
       so we came”. These Irish lads are cyclists that came for our
       rail trail.
       I got a call from Rod Johnson saying two Irishmen were in town
       and I needed to come meet them. Excited to welcome travelers at
       10:00pm, I headed downtown. I am so glad that I did. Jimmy and
       Peter are from Ireland and recently retired from building
       skyscrapers in NYC. In their retirement, they took up cycling.
       They have traveled all over Pennsylvania doing several trails.
       Then they learned of the North Bend Rail Trail leading to
       Parkersburg with tunnels and bridges and had to come for that
       ride.
       I said “sure, I can understand that, but what made you choose
       Shinnston for your overnight stay?”
       It really was a moment, as mayor, that I’ll never forget.
       They loved their time here so much, they have booked another
       night with Kathleen on their way home from Parkersburg to NYC!!
       I’m just so moved that what we have hoped for, worked toward,
       and have desperately needed IS WORKING Let’s be welcoming to our
       travelers because they are coming to enjoy the beauty and
       friendly faces that make West Virginia great!They said we need
       three things when traveling, “a burger, a beer, and a B&B. And
       Shinnston had all three.”
       I was swelling with pride.
       Because of our rails to trails program, two guys from Ireland
       and NYC found our humble city. They found great lodging at The
       Gillum House B&B. And they found Casey’s for their final
       requirements: a burger and a beer. They ate dinner, grabbed a
       couple beers and found old friends that they never knew they
       had.

       Excellent, though they were just being nice if they didn't
       comment on the weak American beer!
