HOT, New Council, Great Concert & Fireworks

Every 2 years Shinnston elects Council members - in 2024, it was
At-Large (3 seats) and this year (2026) it was the 4 Ward
Council members (4 seats). due to the resignation of one
At-Large, his appointee had to run to get Elected this year.
Yesterday, at Noon, as City Clerk, I administered the Oath of
Office to the 5 newly-elected members of Council. They then
chose who would be Mayor and Vice-Mayor The entire meeting took
       4 minutes.
At 4:30 it was out to the Park to get ready for the festivities.
One would have thought we were in Texas or Arizona! It was 95
degrees. Yes, momma, we were done to a turn! But the crowd was
       there!
since my section is a bit sparse, my suspended cymbal also
serves a crash cymbal. We were also playing the Great Locomotive
Chase and one of the guys was going to use a bow on my suspended
for one of the sound effects - tightening it rigid and tilting
it. However, he neglected to return it to normal. I was able to
get it back to suspended, but not normal mode. Just before we
were going to start, I got one of the guys to rectify that.
Apparently he did not have it T
OTALLY tight because about halfway through our 4th selection,
the suspended cymbal was slithering quickly toward the cement
floor with me continuing to keep the crash going (I hope you are
getting a good laugh as you picture this). One of the sound
system guys saw what was happening, rushed over, and returned
the suspended to BEING suspended - where it remained for the
rest of the concert! I even did a reasonable job with counting
the sometimes 25 to 30 measures of rest and ending where I was
supposed to! The Band was great as always (repeat of this
concert in a nearby city July 11). And the Fireworks was
spectacular - at least twice as much as usual for the 250.

Glad all went well. We have the heat of Texas and Arizona, but a
lot more humidity. It's like a sauna. And the mosquitoes. Hard
to have outdoor activities here in summer. They do a big
fireworks show on the 4th, but everybody sits in their car to
watch them, with the air conditioner running!

Band view about 30 minutes before we played - while all the make
nice yada was happening. This is just one section and the Park
is rimmed with houses on a hill at the edge where friends and
       family gather for picnics.
