       April is HOPPING!!

April is busier this year than the entire first 4 months of
       2025. I am beat!!
Just said goodbye to a 3-night at 11:30 this morning (the
insurance man arrived to look at the Woman's club - need to get
new insurance before June 1). They were researching his paternal
family. Before they arrived, I asked for some names they were
interested in - lots of limbs on that tree. I was able to send
his info to our genealogy section at our town Library and my
friend the Museum Director (who forgot). I asked if it would be
OK to take them over to the Library (she had given me a set of
keys) she apologized and brought a selection of books with his
family name in the index over to the house Tuesday evening. They
were thrilled with the info I was able to get them access to.
(Their first breakfast I set my alarm and did not notice I set
it for 5 PM instead of 5 AM. Woke up at 7. to make up for that,
I made venison medallions for breakfast this morning with
deviled eggs, and asparagus from my yard.)
Tuesday I took them to the log house and the tour of Shinnston
and they were able to orient themselves from that to find all
sorts of things with the family name on it. I think they will be
       back.
As of now, it looks as if 2026 is making up for my crappy 2025.
       Woohoo!
Oh, I was giving my cleaning lady a raise because she is good
and comes when I need her - she would not take it. said I was
paying her enough. I bet none of you will ever hear that!, I did
       not expect to either.

Congratulations on the good April! No, never heard of someone
turning down a raise! I gave my housekeeper a $1000 Christmas
bonus, which she loved, but she has worked for me for 10 years
and I've never given her a bonus before, so I had some catching
       up to do.
I'm still on the Queen Mary 2 world cruise, now sailing along
the west coast of Africa toward a stop in Senegal. I've been
away almost 3 months and the inn is doing fine. I can do all the
reservation and payment stuff online, as well as setting door
codes and responding to emails and texts. The ship uses
Starlink, so we have strong, fast Internet anywhere on Earth.*
My wonderful housekeeper is handling the on-the-ground stuff.
There have been a couple of simple repairs needed, but she knows
a young man who's handy with tools and he took care of the
repairs I would usually have done.
It is wonderful to know I can leave town this way and not have
       to close the business!

       * Strong Internet anywhere except our stop in Hong Kong, where
we had limited Internet because the Chinese government forbids
use of Starlink there. The ship arranged for alternate Internet,
which was slow like the old dial-up speed, but we could still do
email, just no streaming movies in Hong Kong. My phone has
worked everywhere we've been. Even in poverty-plagued Bitung,
Indonesia, the most "third world" place we've stopped, all the
locals were on their phones all the time.
