Summer is Over And We are Gone
By: Generic Date: October 24, 2025, 4:14 am
---------------------------------------------------------
We are on vacation. Already on the other side of the pond. But I
have to say that the mix of guests changed this year because
of... well... politics. Normally we have it as 1/3rds, with
Europeans being 1/3rd. This year, we got a lot of guests from
the western side of the country... much more than usual. And the
usual rush of Europeans didn't happen in August, but in late
September and October. September and October saw some longer
guests, even from the "south" and they seemed to have left much
happier than the guests who rushed for 2 day visits.
Longer guests push me to rotate more breakfasts into the system,
because we try to not repeat the exact same breakfast.
One of the last guests ended up staying in 3 different rooms for
the week. Firstly because they reserved late and we didn't have
a single room for the whole period. Secondly because we didn't
have one night... and they went to a hotel for that. But also
they had room envy. They had the big room for the one night and
when they came back, they had the ensuite, but asked us if there
was any way for them to get the big room again. We moved an OTA
guest to the other big rooom (that's one of the advantages of
OTA reservations, we give them a class of room, not a specific
room) and they moved back to the big room.
And then towards the end, we had a set of reviews on one of the
OTAs where every review came in a 9 out of 10. I don't know if
they realize that kills me everytime... when they think it's a
great mark. But it does... it leaves me wondering what I did
wrong.
I did make one change for the winter, this year, I reduced the
price of the big room for weekdays for the winter and I have
vowed to not upgrade anyone from the small room to the big room.
If you didn't want to spend the $10 in difference, then that was
your choice. You can look at what your $10 a day would have
bought. Maybe next time you will think about paying for the
cheapest room :)

I enjoy your Facebook travel pictures; we don't travel much but
nice to see the world when others travel.
Some of us are creatures of habit you could serve the same
bacon, eggs, grits, and black coffee each morning with no
change, that would be an upgrade from my usual microwave
biscuit.
Your rooms are likely fancier than ours, but we have 3 sizes. I
tell folks it's like fast food soda, small, medium and large
with about $10 between each size.

I am going to raise my rates in January. The king room is going
up by $5 and the budget rooms by $10.
