Surprise!!

My daughter, the now retired Chicago came in for her Fall visit
Wednesday. Then she started painting one of the guest rooms that
afternoon. Then before we headed to We went to my home County to
get my maple syrup and maple mustard order on Thursday she
finished the room. Friday we went back to Wheeling to a Festival
and had a great time. Friday we also discovered my refrigerator
freezer was not functioning cold enough - I cannot understand
why because it is only 30.5 years old. My #1 grandson came in
later Friday. We spent Saturday morning choosing a refrigerator
that I wanted - and my daughter said it was my Birthday present.
Later Saturday, I get a call from the restaurant where we were
going to have dinner telling me they could not serve us because
they had had a water leak. Darn! Then we are sitting on the
porch talking nd 2 boys come up the steps - 2 of my Grandsons!
followed by my son and another of my daughters!
We are all sitting on the porch talking and a car pulls up
asking if this was the Gillum House saying he wanted a room. I
said no I am full and my kids are saying, yes, there is a room.
The car turns around and parks as I am telling my kids "It is MY
business and I do not have any rooms." I go down to the sidewalk
to tell him no when I realize it is my other son and
daughter-in-law. THEN a little later, their son and daughter who
now live in Georgia are coming onto the porch! 4 of my children
and 5 pf my 9 grandchildren came for my 80th birthday! (Turns
out my daughter had called the restaurant and they were too
booked to accommodate out party of 11 so she convinced them to
call me to cancel us. Instead, we all sat around my dining room
table (that usually seats 8) talking, laughing, reminiscing
eating pizza and birthday cake! I still cannot believe they did
this for me - their "Other" Mother.
They are all coming back in the morning before heading home to
say Happy Birthday - telling me do not make breakfast, we are
eating at the hotel! I was gobsmacked that they all came for my
birthday!

That's great. And happy 80th. Nice of them to surprise you, like
that.
Should have retired that old fridge sooner. The old fridges are
enormous energy hogs.
I just bought a new washer. Went to one of the websites for
points, to see if I could at least get a few points out of this
purchase. They had a link... 10% off! Woohoo! And if I get the
points, that's another $60 worth of points. (Odd program, you
get $10 off in store for 95 points.)

Wonderful wonderful! And I figured out the same as Generic
regarding old refrigerators. I did the math and discovered that
a new one used so much less energy, the power savings would PAY
for the new refrigerator. It wasn't easy to get rid of an
appliance that still works, but I'm money ahead to retire it.
(And I sold it for $200!)

They ALL stayed over Sunday! We all went up to a dam just north
of me that many of them have memories of fishing at when they
visited in the past. My middle son and his 2 boys actually went
into the river (shallow there up to the thighs of my 6 ft son)
and fished. Then we went to Shogun Hibachi for dinner and then
sat around my firepit burning limbs that fell from a tree in my
yard. #1 grandson left from the restaurant as he had to be at
work Monday. I am waiting up to say goodbye to middle son & his
boys and my youngest daughter (she is leaving at 2 AM as she has
to be in Chicago by 2PM. Middle son will be leaving soon after.
Oldest son and his kids (the ones now living in Georgia) will be
back in the morning (he is going to fix a toilet that is leaking
- flushing itself). It was a wonderful weekend!!
(They are removing the old fridge Tuesday when they deliver the
new one.)
