       Cancel that reservation I made a few hours ago

       This morning I went through my emails in the order received, as
       usual. Saw that a new reservation came in for tomorrow night. I
       programmed his door key code in the lock and emailed his code
       and arrival instructions.
       Then I went back to the emails and, farther down the list I
       found an email from the new reservation, wanting to cancel it.
       He said, "I’m aware that I booked it inside the cancellation
       period. I’m willing to pay the $25 fee."
       His "willing" made me mad, because according to the cancellation
       policy, canceling the day before arrival means you owe the whole
       amount.
       But of course I caved in after thinking about it, charged him
       the $25 cancellation fee, deleted his door code, and moved on
       with life. But it just irks me to break the rules. As we have
       said many times, though, rules must sometimes be flexible.

       We usually give them a 4 hour window. But we also no longer
       offer same day reservations... because if you fail to plan, you
       plan to fail.

       I also do not allow same-day online reservations I might not be
       here. Only phone reservations possible (maybe) same day.

       Like Generic and Gillum our online system does not do same day
       bookings. Our system charges a $10 fee at booking with balance
       due when you enter the 7-day cancelation period. Guests know
       that they lose the $10 fee if they change their mind. I don't
       know that an immediate cancel would bug me that much as I
       haven't turned away other guests.

       If they want same day and call us and they are incredibly nice
       that we allow it, we will give them a specific date in the
       future to use to make the reservation and then manually move it
       for them. We don't want to have to enter all those data. Or we
       will make it and send a CC link, which takes the address
       information for us.
       But you REALLY have to impress us, to make an exception.
