Re: The new model is working!

We live here. We'll be around during their stay, so it makes
sense to greet them, and I might as well check them in. Credit
cards are now run in advance of stay by Resnexus, so that chore
is gone, but the connection serves me.
I'm still serving a full breakfast, so check-in is my chance to
find out what people don't eat and to pick the time they want to
eat. I show them a few things in the room and while I could have
lots of little signs, my experience is that they won't read, and
as we all know, common sense isn't ... common.
For example, my window coverings are simple pleated shades: pull
the cord to raise, tug to the side to release and let the blind
down by gravity. I actually give a little demo on check-in. A
while back, a couple came to me at breakfast and said that they
had a hard time lowering the blinds. They pulled and pulled, and
even she joined him in pulling, and ... the internal cord broke.
Shop: minimum $75 repair
and 2 weeks with no window covering for a first-floor guest
room. I bought the cord material and fixed it myself, of course,
but what a pain.
I do give door code and instructions to people arriving if I'm
absent, or if it's late, past 9:00 pm or so. On the whole I
still feel the brief interruption to greet folks is offset by
useful communication.
Do I want to do this forever? Ah ...

Update: I caved! Went to Ortho. Had a raft of x-rays and learned
during exam it is my LEFT side that is the weak Nellie from al
the get up, dust off, move on. MRI scheduled July 3.
The long-term guy is super. we are mostly communicating via
text. He says he will change his own sheets & be responsible for
cleaning his room. Gave him a medium-size trash can with lid,
told him where to deposit it on Sunday nights for Monday trash
day. My daughter will be here next week to put ceiling in my
foyer, manicure (and I MRAN manicure) my yard so a landscaper
will see how it is expected to look when they give me a price,
and fix anything that needs fixed.
Still hurt but not as bad. Will know more after Tuesday - City
Council meeting Monday night, SDA meeting at 7:30 AM Tuesday &
Lord's Pantry meeting Tuesday at 10:30 AM. If all goes well, I
might even do Chapel Duty Wednesday night! The walker my
daughter bought for me is great - and I am fortunate to have a
cadre of local friends who are falling all over themselves to
help.
