Canada and back

Very much enjoyed our 5 days in Richmond BC. Weather fine, food
delicious, Canadians friendly, as expected.
No one city is representative of any large country, and probably
Richmond least of all: It's fairly new, largely from recent
Asian immigration, so there's practically none of the British
Commonwealth style that is a light overlay in the rest of
(Anglo) Canada. Indeed, with nearly a quarter million
population, less than 20% are of European origin, 75% are Asian,
mainly from China, with practically every other nation
represented, at least in a restaurant. Stayed in a modern suite
right on the Fraser River. We ate well; I gained 3 lbs.
As Generic claimed, Canadians are friendly and do not hold the
US president's antics against US visitors. Indeed. I've visited
in Canada maybe a cumulative 5 or 6 months over the years,
including a month in Quebec's cities and country, and in other
francophone regions, speaking French as best I can, but
generally a little better than a lot of working-class folk spoke
English. Yes, Canadians in general are polite, maybe a little
more in Vancouver than in Montreal; the Quebecois have a
reputation to uphold ;)
So, I arrive this April in the context of an unprecedented
paroxysm of Trump's rude international aggression. Yeah, we
aren't supposed to talk politics in the forum, but this isn't
politics, it's about our business: Trump's aggression has ruined
a century of friendship and a flow of visitors north and south.
I'm not a Canadian tourist destination, but I do get (mainly
Tesla) stop overs from BC travelers on I-5. In my discussion
with the Canadians, the typical reaction was pity: yes, the
Canadian economy will suffer, but the Americans have lost
respect and won't get it back anytime soon.
As for the British, Arks, Generic is right, they'll be a little
less polite than the almost creepy polite Canadians. After all,
the British have a long tradition of "taking the piss", a slang
phrase that means to mock or make fun of someone or something,
often in a light-hearted or teasing way and usually accompanied
by traditional British self-deprecation. You will have fun.

The Quebecois, anglo or franco, have a certain curtness to them.
Polite, but curt. Don't give us a story about why you can't do
it, just say no.... we understand.

Glad things went well. Looking forward to my own trip in June.
