Scent "Allergies"

It seems I'm getting more and more reservation notes worrying
about scented laundry detergent and air fresheners. It's always
women asking. Luckily, I learned from y'all years ago to go with
unscented detergents. I've just added this to my website FAQ,
which of course none of them read. But maybe those "allergic" to
smells will dig deep enough to find it.
DO YOU USE SCENTED LAUNDRY DETERGENT OR AIR FRESHENERS?
No. We use Tide Free unscented laundry pods. We usually leave a
can of Febreze air freshener in the bathroom in case a guest
wants to use it, but we don't spray it ourselves, and each room
sits empty overnight before a new guest arrives. We provide a
bar of unscented soap in the bathroom, though the liquid soaps
and shampoo are scented, so you might want to bring your own
shampoo if scented soaps/shampoo are a problem for you.
I also do not use dryer sheets or fabric softeners for the same
reason - they are scented.

I do use original Gain fabric softener on the towels. So far no
complaints.

The big warehouse has Nellie's Laundry Soda, which is unscented
and works out to like 10c or so per wash in the giant tub when
it's one sale, but 15c a load when it's not. It's one tablespoon
per load. You can add oxi or laundry washing soda if you need
the extra, but I'm pretty happy with it and really unscented and
no skin allergies.
When I need the big guns, I bring in the commercial stuff and
some of it is VERY scented. VERY. I was surprised how much of
the scent remained after washing.
There are dryer sheets that are unscented. There are unscented
ones specifically for hair (they call it for pet hair) that I
use, but not all the time. Sometimes you have to look for the
stuff aimed for babies.

I've ordered some of this new product
HTML https://downy.com/en-us/rinse-and-refresh/free-gentle
from
Amazon to evaluate in place of fabric softener. You use it in
the fabric softener dispenser in the washing machine, just like
a fabric softener. It softens without being an actual fabric
softener.
48 oz for $12, with free shipping.
The Downy website says it removes odors and softens laundry,
helps rinse away smelly residue trapped within your fabric
fibers. Their FAQ says:
Downy R&R is not a fabric softener, so it can be used on
all machine washable fabrics and will not impede absorbency or
moisture wicking or harm flame retardants on children’s clothing
like usual liquid fabric softeners.
We only use fabric softener on towels, now. And the laundry
detergent leaves everything scent free.
I'm still in shock at how much scent the "Big Brand" has. Since
we are mostly scent free, it was a big shock.
The "mode" has been to call unscented "free". Honestly, I think
that if a product has the word "free" on it, that should be the
price!
