Going to Canada

Well, just for a few days of tourism in British Columbia, just
up the coast. There’s cosmopolitan Vancouver, but this time we
will probably stay in little Steveston on the Fraser River and
go into Richmond to eat. Richmond is like a chunk of Hong Kong
dropped by a typhoon – largely a result of the 1996 transfer
from Commonwealth to PRC. Anyway, good food, fun to visit.
But, international relations seem a bit different now. Do I need
a bumper sticker saying, We come in peace/Nous venons en paix.
Not sure I’d want to drive there in a cybertruck (wouldn’t want
to drive around here in a cybertruck either).

Sounds like an interesting trip, enjoy. Always had dreams of
some western trips, unfortunately time went by too quickly and
missed my chance.
Don't much like the looks of the Cybertruck, although a guest
said it made a great work truck. I do like the Model Y.

Stick a Harris sticker on the bumper and wear blue. You’ll be
fine. Maybe hum some Swifty songs when you enter a new
building. ;D

I haven’t met anyone yet on my side of the imaginary line that
has said anything nasty about our neighbours to the south. We
will still welcome all of our American guests to our piece of
paradise as we always have and my American bookings are up over
last year.
We’ll kill you with kindness 🥰

Along the same line, I've spent months planning a visit around
England. We've only been able to trace one ancestor back to "the
old country" and I want to visit the village he lived in before
he immigrated to Virginia in the 1600s. I also want to visit the
National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, as well as the ship HMS
Victory in Portsmouth.
I spend a lot of time in a forum of fans of the Master and
Commander series of Royal Navy books, and recently someone
posted about wanting to visit the UK. One of the forum members
replied, "Are you a Yank? If so, stay home. You are not welcome
here!"
So I've, sadly, put my plans on hold. :-[

Because of ONE comment? ONE person's opinion cancelled your
plans? How many differing opinions do you get on Facebook and
other places. GO! ENJOY! Just be your usual reserved self. You
are not a yahoo partying jerk. All will most likely be a great
time.

Gotta agree. Go and enjoy! My friends from UK love to talk
politics. Just agree and find your roots.

Of course, there is a huge difference in distance between a post
on Facebook and a guy alone in England, meeting face-to-face
with an opinionated British person. The world currently hates
us, and I'm not willing to go alone, as Shakespeare said it,
"into the breach." I'll have to wait a year or two, or four.

Easy to say, but I would be a guy alone in England, meeting
face-to-face with an opinionated British, possibly inebriated,
person. The world currently hates us, and I'm not willing to go
alone, as Shakespeare said it, "into the breach." I'll have to
wait a year or two, or four.

Can’t blame you. My optimistic side says the world hates him.
Not us. But my practical side says, avoid arguments and hate
when you can.
