       Home - at last!!

I got home about 4:15 PM today. Left Florence, SC about 6:30 AM
this morning. So glad to be home AND I know my reflexes are
still good Had a semi pullover into my lane because another
semi was pulled over -BUT I was IN the left lane and there was a
car in front of me with about 1 CAR-LENGTH between us. I do not
know how he thought a semi was going to fit in that space. Had
just enough shoulder to veer to without going over the edge of
it (would have been roll time) and hit my brakes enough to let
him in. I was only doing my usual cruise at 80 mph.
Left Sanford, Florida Thursday morning about 11:30 AM. Had to go
all the way to Florence to get a room - there were no rooms at
the inn where I had planned to stay - do the nice desk clerk
found a room - 40 miles north and now it is dark!
While on this trek, I heard from (I keep thinking Carrot Top but
not her name - another redhead nickname) and they are OK. Called
JimBoone and they are OK but the storm DID go through Boone. I
avoided the path of it as I went south - hugged the coast. I was
in Swansboro, NC (on the coast) when Ashville got slammed. My
friend's brother was in Ashville but they are OK - live on a
hill. Just wanted to give everyone an update on those I know
about. They are watching another storm brewing toward the same
area. (DANG! My butt & my legs still feel like I am driving!)

I have been wondering and waiting for word. Good to know you
are home and safe. Same with the others. What an
       unimaginable disaster. Be well!

A lot of semis, these days, just move over when they feel like
it. No car can resist them, and they know the car is more
maneuverable than they are, so they just push their way in and
expect the cars to move out of their way. I'm really surprised
there haven't been a lot of wrecks where they got sued for doing
       that.
The images out of western North Carolina are horrible. Being on
a hill certainly helps, but even those people are without
electricity, roads and bridges washed out so can't drive out of
the area to get food and supplies. A lot of people will be in a
lot of misery for a long time. I saw a convoy of 47 Walmart
semis headed there with supplies. We're lucky to live in a big
enough country to have lots of resources to help during
       disasters.

You would think you would be safe from hurricanes living in the
mountains, but it doesn't seem to have worked that way with this
one. We and family were blessed, stayed dry and no real damage
to complain about. Being on the highway our road and power got
quick attention. Son and granddaughter's homes are further out,
some roads still an issue and son still doesn't have power. I
didn't think we had that much wind, but water is powerful.
Rushing water undercut roads and washed-out bridges. If you
lived on a hill, you had the risk of mudslides, if you lived in
the valley all the water and mud became lake around you.

My brother sort of butt dialed me from Sanford, Florida. Glad I
was there last week (left Thursday). The next hurricane is
coming up the Gulf coast and is supposed to hook a right at
Tampa and cross the I-4 corridor - RIGHT AT HIM!!
I have seen the videos of Boone. Give me the name of the
organization that is THERE doing the most to help so I can send
       a donation.

Many different organizations large and small are helping,
possibly the best known is Samaritan's Purse, they work helping
worldwide and maintain their headquarters in Boone. It has been
some years but back when we had small groups of seniors visit
the motel, I went to Samaritan's with the groups several times
as they took gift boxes for project Christmas Child.
