Hi... Can I Have A Tour?
By: Generic Date: September 23, 2024, 11:56 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Had a phone call with a "blocked number" at 11:15AM that I
missed and didn't answer, because we were busy doing turn overs
(2/3rd of the house today, so I have help.)
Tries to come in to the house at 12 noon, but our door is keypad
locked, so she rings. I answer the door. She wants a tour. Nope.
       We don't do tours.
Just because it's a B&B doesn't mean that we are here to sate
your curiosity about what old homes look like inside. That's
part of what I'm selling... your chance to see a real old
Victorian home. You want to enjoy it and see it... pay me!

Not to mention, I’m busy right now. Working.

I occasionally hear from people who want to tour the place
before they'll book a room. Like you, I'll let them know that I
don't give tours but that the online photos are quite accurate.
I don't think any of them ever booked a room, or ever intended
to. They just wanted to nose around and see what the place is
       like.

When we were selling our previous home, I told the agent "no
open house"... all that shows up to an open house are lookers,
       and mostly the neighbours.

Going to neighborhood open houses is my hobby. I confess.
But I don’t blame you. I’m one of them.
       🤷‍♀️
Personal story. When we bought this inn, we had no intentions
of buying an inn or moving at all. We went for a walk on a nice
day and saw an open house sign. As is my hobby, I insisted we
go in. I had always wanted to see this grand home. I love
architecture and decoration and antiques. I’m a habitual
looky-loo. About a week after the open house, my husband came
to me with written calculations saying, “ we can do this”. I
said something like, “huh?” He had recently been laid off and
proposed running an inn rather than finding a job. It worked.
       We are in season 11.

Wow, time flies, doesn't it! I remember when you first appeared
on Innspiring. I've also been open 11 years, but was on the
forum about 2 years before opening, to learn and ask a few
       foolish questions.
I was jumped on a few times, for being so unknowing and naive.
Luckily, Swirt, the forum admin., said everybody has to learn
somewhere, and where else could I go? He told them to lay off of
me, and they did. I finally got open and started learning on the
job. But two years on the forum first was an enormous help.

Eleven must be the magic number. Same for us but I must admit
that next year will be my last. I’ll be collecting full pension,
old age security and a few other “ goodies”. Only 456 days, 4
hours and 49 minutes ( I have a countdown widget installed on my
home screen. I really need to stop looking at it )

Arks, I nearly left the forum after my first intro cuz many
commenters were less than welcoming. But I stayed and gained
a lot of ideas and insight.
Cat, we have 31 days till retirement…..tick, tick, tick….
