Thankful for the Mortician
By: gillumhouse Date: July 28, 2024, 8:20 pm

Had a family of 3 coming in Friday. I told him "I think I can
put up the cot, but I know I am not strong enough to take it
down so you will have to do it for me." I lied. Fortunately, I
tried to put it up Wednesday - nope. since I lost the weight, I
am not heavy enough and since I am old so not strong enough to
get those heavy springs to hook. I told my tale of woe to Jimmy
at chapel Wednesday night and he said he would stop by Friday
and do it for me. Ge texted Thursday morning - are you up? I can
stop by on my way to work. He did and had it up in less than 5
minutes. The cot will never be used again here. Jimmy is also my
mortician and he tells me he is in no rush to light the match.
(AND I am to call him if I need help with anything. I have the
best friends!)

Awesome to have friends. You are involved in the community and
have been recognized and paid back for your giving! Great story!
We had a rollaway in one room but finally decided, not only is
it more work, but it makes the room less comfortable. Too
crowded. We decided that our market didn’t include those who
would want a cheap bed rather than a lovely room. We took the
option off the list.

Since my sofa bed mechanisms broke, I switched to air mattresses
with built in pumps. So easy. Plug it in and turn the knob to
the right to pump it up. When done, turn the knob to the left
and it pumps the air out.
I have 2 twin size, 1 full size, and 2 queen size. I use them
about a dozen times/year, mostly in summer when people with kids
come to town for family reunions. I hate having to mess with
them. But they fill 11 rooms/year with people who probably
wouldn't book if they had to take 2 rooms. For the extra people
I charge $18 per person/per night, for the extra trouble. Hardly
worth it!

When I saw the subject of your post, I feared you had a guest
die on you! Glad it was a happier situation!

He also covers for me at the Chapel when I go out of town or
have a problem Wednesday nights. He will be covering about 3
weeks when I go on my road trip to see my brother. He also gives
me rhubarb and pumpkin - I give him coffee and blackberries as a
thank you.

We gave it all up for lent. Two rooms have daybeds from that
Scandinavian place that sells Chinese chopsticks converted to
furniture. And a futon that makes a double bed. If I had to do
it again, I'd get a wall murphy bed

Ridiculously expensive, but probably worth it!
But I know how this goes. If I got a Murphy bed, I'd resent that
too.

Funny, they are so easily available here. Sometimes sold here as
a wall bed. Even the fancy one that turns into a desk is about
$1500 here. That about $1080 in the funny money coloured by
Crayola that you guys use :) Sold by the Club Warehouse place
For some reason they are often more expensive on the other side
of the border. We have entire stores that just sell them, here.
