We were just about to sit down and eat dinner when the airfield
alarm began to sound. Someone yelled, "man your planes, enemy
aircraft are headed our way." I ordered my section to their
aircraft and we got into the air as soon as we could.

sans-serif]It was not long and I sighted two groups of enemy
bombers (Pe-2s) heading toward our airfield. I ordered the
section (4x Fw-190s) to attack. We had the advantage, we were
above them. I rolled my aircraft over and sighted an enemy plane
and began my attack. I leveled off on his six o'clock position
and opened fire. The enemy bomber dropped his bombs and then
began to roll over to his left, quite uncontrollably. I saw it
crash to the ground in a tremendous
explosion.[/font][/font][/size][/font][/size][/font][/size][/fon

pulled up and sighted another enemy aircraft. I positioned my
aircraft for another attack. Once again I was above my
[/font][/font][/size][/font][/size][/font][/size][/font][/size][
/font][/size][/font][/size][/font][/size]opponent.
I pushed the throttle to the stop and rolled my aircraft over
attacking from above. I was in range very quickly. I opened fire
and saw my rounds impact the enemy's plane at the tail area. The
entire tail plane separated from the enemy aircraft. I saw no
parachutes prior to the plane crashing into the ground.

I looked around, the first two enemy formations had been
destroyed, however a third formation of enemy bombers tried to
sneak in, using the clouds as cover, heading for our airfield.
They were too far ahead of me to stop their attack. They were
able to drop their bombs, destroying some airfield facilities
and grounded aircraft. I ordered my section to attack the
bastards.

I turned my plane toward the attackers and hammered my throttle
to the stop, almost pushing it out of its mount. I gritted my
teeth swearing under my breath. I got within range of one the
the enemy planes and opened fire. I hit the left engine nacelle
setting it on fire. It was at this moment I felt my plane get
hit by the enemy's return fire. I also started feeling a bit
woozy and seeing red. Moments later the enemy's plane exploded
in midair.

My plane was still responsive and I myself was still able to
fight. I pressed the attack. I sighted in another enemy bomber.
I got within range and cut loose my guns and cannons once again.
The rounds found their mark. The enemy aircraft rolled over and
fell to the ground. I saw no chutes. Now with my guns empty I
headed for home.
I contacted the tower telling them to have the rescue trucks on
stand-by. I was feeling quite a bit light headed now and the
adrenaline from the combat was now wearing off. Pain was now
becoming a factor. My right leg and arm had been hit by an enemy
tail gunner, I was loosing blood fairly rapidly. I had to land
soon. I got onto the final approach quickly, I was a bit fast at
touch down. I let the plane roll out for as long as possible
before I touched my brakes, this saved me from tipping over on
my nose.
I was able to coast to the ramp area where soon after the
emergency trucks arrived and pulled me from my aircraft. I was
treated on the ramp and then taken to the field hospital.

Once again you have completed an excellent flight. With this
mission you have closed this cycle of the FW-190 A4 for
yourself, having survived in all the missions. Congratulations!
You have finally managed to get back to the infirmary! ;D

Results/description of mission: Two enemy planes sent to the
snowy fields. I had a rough landing. I am alive.
Debrief:
Leading a group of four elements we carried out the patrol
according to the route indicated on the map. Shortly before
completing our first patrol circuit in the assigned area, I see
two bomber formations heading for our base. These are the ones
we were waiting for. I order my boys to go on the attack. Soon
the first bomber formation is destroyed.

After a first frontal attack on the second bomber formation
(Pe-2), I get behind them, and here I make my big mistake. I
assumed that by moving a lot I would avoid the sniper gunners of
the bombers, but it was not like that. I was seriously injured.

Before I lost consciousness, I had to decide quickly whether to
jump or search for the base. I was bleeding out really fast. I
decided to search for the base, knowing that I was not far from
it. I looked back and forth several times, until finally I saw
the light from the tower below my right wing. I felt lucky and
decided to land immediately before passing out. While I was
landing, bombs kept dropping on the base. I think the flaps on
my plane were not working properly, as it cannot brake the
plane, and I capped at the end of the runway. I jumped out of my
plane with my last strength, ran a few meters and threw myself
into the snow. I felt very sleepy and wanted to sleep. Shortly
after I heard a motor approaching, it was the infirmary truck. I
immediately heard a very familiar voice, it was her, Helga! From
one moment to the next, hell turned into heaven!

Results: 4 x PE 2 Destroyed, 1 x PE8 Destroyed, 2 x PE 2
Damaged.
AAR:
Received alert to scramble from ground observer- unknown
Aircraft approaching from the east heading west towards our
base. Took off climbing at full throttle in a gradual left hand
climb to 6000ft. Leveled out with 3 other FW190's heading NE at
about 5000ft. Large group of Enemy PE 2 Bombers were sighted two
groups of Aircraft and maybe a third. Our flight of FW190s
broke into the bombers seeing our flight leader down the lead
PE 2 after a head on attack. I turned into the number two of the
first flight approached from abeam closing within 200m firing a
two second burst the PE 2 shed some debris and a fire started in
the right hand engine. Some rounds from the rear gunner of
another PE 2 slightly above hit my aircraft but no significant
damage or change in flight behaviorr was noticed. I climbed and
began a series of attacks on the rear quarter of the second
group of four. I managed to down damaging the fourth before I
broke off the attack and headed north climbing to 8000ft. A
short time later I notice a single unknown large Aircraft at
about 16000ft heading towards our base. I climbed at full
throttle nearly overheating my engine to close within range to
visually Identify the Aircraft. When directly over our base the
unknown aircraft dropped large bombs. This aircraft turned and
headed east as I closed with 600m I identified the aircraft as a
Soviet PE-8 heavy bomber. I closed from the rear left quarter
level with the enemy bomber. Coming in fast I fired a one second
burst before over shooting the target. I climbed to loose speed
and attacked again from above. Firing another second burst I saw
material come of the PE-8. I repeated the attack one last time
firing for secconds exhausting ammunition. I saw hits in the
port engines, a fire started and then a wing separated. I claim
a PE-8 Destroyed. I returned to base on fuel fumes landing
safely. I saw that 4 BF110's had been destroyed on the ground
along with fuel stocks and reserves on fire as a result of the
PE 2's bombing.

Congratulations Mick! You managed to place yourself in the first
place thanks to your patience, good work and good sense of
smell. You are so far the first to discover the arrival of that
mysterious high-altitude bomber, after doing a good job under
the clouds eliminating the Pe-2 bombers. Really excellent!

well done !!!
Mick, looks like you won this weeks prize, free beer at the
club. :)
Haukka, you lucky devil, you got Helga looking after you and
hear I thought I was her favorite. Imagine to my surprise when I
woke up this morning and saw you laying in bed across from me in
the dispensary with Helga feeding you in bed !!! She took one
look at me and said, "You are healed enough to leave today,
we're kicking you out, have a good day !!!" As I was leaving I
looked back and she was still tending you with that wonderful
smile of hers. :)
