Steam Games

Whoa! Okay, so it's been ten years or so since I last played on
Steam. ??? So? What's the big deal, lol?
Emboldened by my success in getting my WOT account reinstated I
leaped (blindly) into doing the same with Steam... looking
forward to playing my old games installed there such as Day of
Defeat, Left For Dead, and many others. Games bought and paid
for long ago.
Ah, but Stream isn't as slick as WOT and their reinstatement
isn't near as slick either. g'ah! It was a blooming nightmare
to say the least. >:(
I don't want to speak ill of the (brain) dead but their Support
seems to be 7 year old's with no real idea of anything other
than 'a rule is a rule is a rule' law. So, if the Steam bylaw
call for outdated information, stupid information, useless
information then that is what is required. Yes, they demanded
passwords, credit card info, Steam Security wallet information
and so on from over TEN YEARS ago! d'oh! :o ::)
Oh yeah, they had my account right there but despite me proving
beyond a shadow of a doubt I WAS who I said I WAS... none of
that mattered without the stuff I listed above. whaa-whaaaaaaa!
Okay, after about twenty emails, dozens of sign-in attempts, BS
a mile deep and crapping a donut ring big enough to jump through
in mid-air... I FINALLY got through to somebody (an adult
perhaps?) that said 'oh yeah... no problem!' And promptly
reinstated my account.
:-\
But wouldn't it have just been better to have signed in under a
NEW name and start over?
Sure it would have...way easier. But, as I had several hundred
dollars worth of games involved and due to me being a
stubborn-headed cuss, I muddled through anyway and won the day.
I'm in the act of (at last) downloading my 'old' Day of Defeat
Source game and due to my crappy net should be there sometimes
tomorrow and can play at last. Ha! Only about forty more games
to go! Wish me luck!

Beo.. I have 39 games through steam and I know it can be a
bugger to to just recover a lost password,,It's especially
bothersome if you just lost your password due to a hard drive
failure..Tried to reset/recover it but compounded troubles if
you don't have a smartphone,,I had the problem many moons
ago..took a couple of days to set it right ,,It was then I
decided to keep a note pad and have a non-crash backup of my
passwords,Most sites do the autofill thing and all you see are
dots,,Just recently I've looked at password managers,and
discovered Firefox stores them in a csv folder..Steam can be a
beech,..Some warn against writing down passwords but if someone
broke into my house and found the log one of us will be the
dearly departed so it won't matter

Amen to that last sentence, brother! ;) Same here.
In my case (the thieves), they'd be too busy catching 12 gauge
buckshot or .45 pistol rounds to even think of grabbing up a
notebook with game codes in it. LOL!
But yeah, I get ya. I had gone thru the 'lost' password thingy
with them before long ago and even back then it was a beech..as
you say. (*trust me, it's WAY WAY worse these days!) And also
as you noted (and a good idea) I had done a small book to aid my
memory... but after 10 years of not playing, wow all that sort
of thing vanished in constant cleanups, tossing out un-used
things, so on and so forth. Yikes! Ten years is a LONG time in
gaming history, eh? Especially if you're not playing any (or
much) anymore.
That's what I 'kept' trying to get through to those Steam Peeps
I was in communication with... after TEN years, a heart attack,
cancer, and a brutal lightning strike that literally blew my
computer and backup hard drive clear across my room... there was
NO WAY I had any CD's, cd game shells with numbers, Steam wallet
numbers, passwords, and so on. Hell, even my credit card and
phone number had changed over that long a time.
???
But they just 'kept' asking for the same thing... (big sigh!)
Until finally I got hold of someone who didn't repeat the same
ole crap and was willing to actually LISTEN to what I was
saying. Presto-chango! And within minutes I was reinstated.
It all only took about three days and dozens of emails...lol.
But FINALLY (after getting someone to listen) I got my steam
back complete with ALL of my old games and links to my old
gaming friends even! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
I even managed to chat with one of my old gaming pals last night
over the Steam Chat... and even downloaded and played Day of
Defeat (and didn't do too badly after ten years plus...lol.)
Bull-headedness can (sometimes) be a virtue sometimes.

LOL Beo like you I tend to get stubborn like a dog on a bone..My
Christian tolerance tends to slip when the other person is not
speaking English,,With my IP i call tech support and can't
understand the other person,,Hearing loss since 1968 doesn't
help..But if you are in tech support in the US your English
should be passable,,I've had them hang up on me when I ask them
to repeat codes and this is after I've told them I have hearing
issues..One fool asked "Are you pulling my leg?" Other times I
asked for someone who speaks better Engilsh "I speak very good
Englisssh very finnee " Click hang up and try after I've cooled
down..For passwords I'm looking into a password mananager that
only needs a master password..Also found my passwords file in
facebook,,Didn't realize I has membership in so many sites and
rediscovered some old gems.. Discovered spell checking doesn't
work with posts,,Highlights bad spelling but doesn't give an
alternative spelling

Oh yes, brother! LOL! I have heard that SO many times before
from peeps that I was only getting about 'every' fifth word out
of. Literally! ??? ::)
And as you say, asking for a Supervisor or someone that 'speaks
English' better is tantamount to asking them NOT to help you at
all. It pisses them off.
Wow!
