Mission results week 51
By: larsresult Date: December 13, 2020, 11:37 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Tank Attack North Africa
Aircraft Beaufighter 21 with rockets
Date flown 13th December 2020
Vpmodpack
Results Survived. 450 pts. 2 air kills.
Debriefing
Took off first time but message Mission Failed came on screen
before I even turned north for the target. Pressed refly.
This time Secondary Target Complete was on screen as I
approached the target area. Ordered flight to attack. It was
hard to pick out targets in all the smoke and as the briefing
said the land was tricky to watch for rising and lowering hills.
I fired my rockets in four salvoes at what I thought were parked
vehicles but obviously were not as I received no points for
ground targets. Mission Over - Primary Target Failed. My flight
by then was being menaced by enemy fighters so I covered their
tails as they went in. I shot down two fighters in flames firing
from 40 down to 20 range. As there were no more enemy fighters
nearby I started to look for the soft vehicles but then my
engines started over heating so i headed for home. Not hit this
time as far as I could tell.
Tip. I noticed that if you increase throttle too fast the
Beaufighter starts to spin, especially if you are climbing at
low speed.

Well done Lars !!! ... good job bringing down those Hun aircraft
and bringing your aircraft home safely. :) I just downloaded
the mission and will be flying it as well later this afternoon.
Lars, I found out why you got a "mission fail" just after you
took off. This was due to the mission builder assigning numerous
enemy convoys as the "primary" target. With the targets assigned
as primary's without any kind of time delay the mission will
fail almost immediately.
Haukka, I updated the mission assigning the enemy convoys as
"secondary" targets and made the "primary" landing back at our
home base. I'll fly this updated mission and report my results.

Debriefing
Took off and headed toward the battle area. The target area
could be seen well in advance due to burning wrecks. Though I
did not see them initially, someone in my flight called out that
we had bandits. I had a good run lined up at some ground targets
so I continued with that attack. Fired and aimed perfectly
except that the targets I had lined up were already destroyed.
What rotten luck. It was cool though that even though the
targets were already destroyed, debris flew up in the air when I
hit them. Then I turned to the Me210s in the area. There were a
lot of them. I engaged a couple and broke off, then settled on
one loner. His rear gunner got some hits on me; I lost my
gunsight and had a fuel leak, but I managed to bring him down
thanks to the Beaufighter's cannon. Decided to head home at that
point. One Me-210 started to follow me but broke off. I managed
to make a good landing at base (something of a rarity for me).

Week #51
Aircraft: Beaufighter Mk21 armed with rockets
Mission: Ground Attack - Vehicle/Tank Convoys
Date Flown: 12/13/2020
Results: Survived, one tank destroyed, five enemy aircraft
destroyed, 1440 points
After Action Review (AAR):
The section had a normal take-off and was able to reach the
target area without harassment. I ordered the section to attack
ground targets and proceeded to locate targets of my own. I
sighted a small convoy of tanks and engaged. I was able to
destroy one tank and was turning around for another shot when we
were attacked by numerous enemy twin engine fighters, Me-110s.

At this time I ordered the section to break-off their ground
attacks and ordered them to "attack fighters". I then engaged
the nearest enemy aircraft. During this engagement, the enemy's
rear gunner shot up my aircraft pretty good, including taking
out my gun sight reticle. I stayed on his six and was able to
shoot it down.

HTML https://i.ibb.co/ZKX93vM/Dec-13-2020-9-11-49-PM.jpg
I was able to engage and shoot down a total of five enemy
Me-110s. My aircraft was becoming a bit difficult to fly as my
elevator controls had been hit but was still operational. I then
turned for home. I ordered the section to return to base. A
total of three aircraft survived the mission including myself. I
was able to land safely at our home base.

HTML https://i.ibb.co/z8SZMJP/Dec-13-2020-9-28-55-PM.jpg
Note: The mission ran normally and I did not have a "mission
failure" at the start of the mission. I had a "mission
completed" message when I landed at the home base. The minor
changes to this mission corrected any earlier issues.

Well done DH. Damage default on the Beaufighter always seems to
be the gunsight for all of us.
Nice going Von. Better to live to fight another day.

Good morning friends! yesterday afternoon's flights were a
success. Congratulations! The three pilots have returned to the
base alive, after having entered that hell of steel and sand.
Tanks and armored vehicles are always a dangerous, difficult and
elusive target. I'm really amazed at the level of survivability
on this mission. It is also very interesting to observe how each
of you has flown, lived and seen a slightly different story. In
addition, you have all shown hunter skills. I think the Germans
underestimated the presence of the British twin engines, as
several Me.210s were sent ashore.
I will comment these things to the commander, perhaps he will
assign you missions more in line with your hunting nature.
Anyway, we have little time left in this desert. Just one more
week in Africa, and we'll fly home.
I have yet to make this flight, and those who have not yet done
so are invited to participate. This open contest has the sole
objective of fostering camaraderie, getting to know each other
better, and learning together, since in this great game it seems
that learning never ends, which is fantastic. Fun is assured.
DHumprhey, you have made a great discovery there, redefining the
priority of goals. I confess that the Targets and these things
are not my strong suit, so I did not realize it and I left those
aspects of the mission as I found them. Thank you very much for
warning us, since with these things we all learn. The next time
I come across something like that, I know who I'm going to ask
questions. ;)
Again, thanks to all of you for your participation and
enthusiasm.

Take off and travel
to the target, without incident. Upon arrival, I identified some
tanks aggressively advancing towards the town, while some houses
were on fire. I attack once, but my rockets miss their target. I
make a new attack and destroy my first tank. I still had two
pairs of rockets left. Two German twin-engines pass my high
twelve. I rise through the clouds and begin my attacks. When I
lose eye contact with the enemy twin engines, I return to the
tanks. In this way I destroy two more tanks. Another enemy plane
falls under fire from my cannons. So I make a common mistake,
and that is feeling too confident. I relax and take my guard
down, exposing myself to unnecessary risks. I persist in
attacking a German twin-engine for its six direct shots, and its
rear guns seriously damage my aircraft, and leave me seriously
wounded. I move as far as I can from the war zone, towards my
base. My engines lose steam. I crash-land in the sand, a few
hundred meters from a fishing village. Two beautiful native
girls approach me with their breasts uncovered. Then I believe
that I have died and that I am already in heaven. End of my
debrief.

Well done Haukka. No rush to get back. We will cover for you
while you get that stroke of luck or should I say two strokes of
luck. But remember to use protection as you know what the navy
boys are like with these island girls. And don't let the girls
talk you into adopting all their little ones. Oh, this is so un
PC. lol.
