Mission results week 48

Mission 48
Date flown 22nd November 2020
Vpmodpack.
Results 300 pts. One Rufe downed. Survived. Mission Complete.
Debrief Failed on first take off, hit the water. Somehow my
throttle wasn't on full. Anyway, got away on second try.
Followed my leader just under the cloud base. Was told off when
I veered off to investigate four aircraft heading for the
carrier but they were friendlies. As we neared the island enemy
fighters appeared and while my leader went for one I tackled
another. Slippery little sod but I managed to throttle back and
eventually caught him in a climb, shredding his floats. Received
a Primary Mission Complete message. Then I noticed the flak
which was quite heavy. Both my leader and I received fuel leaks.
We turned away from the island and made a wide sweep towards the
airfield. I didn't like the look of all the tracer crossfire and
the flak north of the field was heavy. My leader must have been
hit again as his engine quit. I left him to circle and land.
This took four attempts as other aircraft were landing so I had
to suffer four lots of flak and pray they didn't do for me.
Anyway, I managed to land, ran over a tent, and received Mission
Complete. Hope noone was in the tent.
My Straight From the Farm practice is starting to pay off. lol.

Great mission, Lars! It has been exactly as it was expected to
be. I must tell you that the Japanese fighter you shot down was
not a rookie, a well-placed bullet by one of these samurais can
send you alongside your ancestors before you know it. And you
have also come home after having done four circuits losing fuel,
you have been very lucky that your engine kept running until you
could land. Nice job!

Thanks Haukka. Interesting mission. When I hit that tent at the
end I lost a wingtip but it didn't penalise me points wise.
There must have been a very big Marine in that tent! lol.

Hello All,
This is my 1st mission flying in the competition and I had quite
a bit of fun. :) The mission was built "very" well, kudos to the
mission builder !!!
Date : Nov 24th, 2020
Sim: VpMod Pack
Point Results: 380
After Action Review (AAR):
Taxied to take off following the lead aircraft. Successful
take-off from the carrier. Armed with 2x 500 lbs bombs and 8x
HVAR rockets. Flew the given flight plan. Encountered 2x A6M-N
float zeros. One Zero had already been splashed and was floating
in the water. I was able to engage and destroy the second Zero.
I then turned to engage AAA guns located on the northern part of
the island. I dropped my bombs on the first large gun (75mm).
The bombs landed close, but not close enough. I had to return to
the target and made a pass using a set of rockets. They launched
true and destroyed the gun. I then located another gun and made
a run, I was fooled. The gun was a decoy and it cost me two
rockets. I then made a diligent search and found another AAA gun
target. I made a successful run and destroyed it. I found a
third AAA gun and made another successful run.
I then turned for the airfield. As I made my turn my plane took
some shrapnel hits and I was wounded (pink screen), I could
still fly however. I circled the landing field only to find it
was under "very" heavy attack. I made a couple of strafing runs
but couldn't see very well and didn't hit anything. I came
around for landing, landing from south to north, coming over
three ships located on the southern point of Peleliu. I then
taxed to a revetment and parked. At this point I got the
"mission complete" message.

Well done DH and welcome to the fraternity of AC offliners. You
did very well with the rockets as I never seem to hit anything
with them other than a lucky shot. Mind you they were
notoriously inaccurate in RL.

Excellent results, DHumphrey! And welcome to this fraternal
competition where the prize is the flight itself, and then share
our experiences with friends. You have done so well that it will
be difficult to overcome you. Again, I am very happy that you
are participating, and we hope that more pilots will be
encouraged to enter the "circle of fire".
This mission, like all the ones we have flown this month,
belongs to the "Hell in The Pacific, Peleliu" campaign, designed
years ago by PhilK and published on M4T, all credits for this
great work go to him:

Results/description of mission: mission complete
Mission Score: 250
Misc. Info if desired: debrief:
I flew this mission on VPmodpack. I took off with the weapons in
default. I headed for the area foreseen in the brief, the
vicinity of the island of Ngesebus, adjacent to Peleliu. As we
approach the area, one of my boys reports enemies approaching by
our nine. Soon I see one of them, immediately the other. They
were Ruffes.

I swing wide to get on top of the last of them, and then dive
behind him. It is difficult when you enter with a lot of energy
and your opponent is slowly hovering like a fly. My shots did
not seem to hurt him, although I did touch him several times.
Meanwhile, one of my pilots shot down the other Ruffe. Finally,
at a clean junction, his float went flying like a canoe without
oars.

HTML https://i.postimg.cc/qgH69pwb/il2fb-2020-11-27-13-40-22-40.jpg[/img]
And there I was surprised, because the Zero without float became
lighter and more agile, and consequently more dangerous. I had
to extend horizontally to get speed and energy and not fall into
a spinning trap. When I got enough speed, I went back up, and
the maneuver worked like a drag that I had not planned to do, as
another F4U was coming after the Japanese, giving him all his
love. The battered Ruffe fell into the water, and my boys
celebrated with loud voices.

As we passed over Ngesebus, the strong flack hidden in the
jungle damaged the plane of one of my pilots, its engine soon
began to emit dense smoke. But the pilot maintained control of
his aircraft and was able to land. I did the same, a circuit in
a safe area, far from the Peleliu mountains, where terrible
battles were fought. After a careful approach, I flew over the
same boats DHumphrey saw, indicating that we landed on the same
runway. After landing, I looked for protection in a safe place,
and the best I found to protect myself was a tank.

This is our last mission in Peleliu, and this
month we have reviewed some of the missions of this great
campaign "Hell in The Pacific, Peleliu", by PhilK. I have flown
the entire campaign in three days. Yes, I have eaten it, and it
is a very tasty bite. It is highly recommended if you like
Corsair missions on board. This Sunday we will move to another
front. But there is still time to fly this mission. And lots of
things to break down there.

Debrief
Took off and met up with the Rufe fighters quickly. Another
pilot in the flight got one and I set one on fire. Though it
crashed in the sea, I did not get credit and plan to write my
congressman to complain.

Ok, I am sure that has happened to all of us one in a while in
game. Happened in real combat too for certain.
I returned to the landing strip in Palau. My landing was...shall
we say...imperfect. Just needs a little bondo and a lick of
paint. Hey, there was no tire damage.

Thanks Von! It's a good mission anyway, because you've flown,
found the enemy, and shot them down, and that's what matters. I
agree with you that this airfield needs some work, it looks like
a field of stones and wells, with craters everywhere. And
indeed, the same thing that has happened to you has happened to
me many times, and it will continue to happen to me. It is not
something to worry about. ;)
SLT.
