Sink The Tirpitz 1.
Date flown 26th May 2020
BAT 3.8.3
Aircraft F4U Corsair
Points Zero. Survived.
Debrief.
What a great scenario. Climbed above the TBF squadron to keep
height while they turned to attack their target. Noticed an MBR
floating about below! No flight command available so I called 8
'Somebody help me' and my flight proceeded to bounce the Bf110s
below us after they in turn had tackled the F6Fs. I dropped on
one and kept hitting him but his gunner wounded me and hit my
engine which ran rough then stopped after a while. Bailed out
and survived but no points awarded.
Will try the other missions later and report back.
Good choice Otto.

Good for you .. When I ran a test on this I found the ship and
dropped my trop and hit the ship..
That is when the AA started firing and killed me ... I also had
ZERO points.. But is was fun ...

Debrief
Not au fait with carrier take offs so used Autopilot. Hope you
guys don't mind. Took over on climb out. Caught up with TBFs
just as the Bf110s arrived then the Fw190s. Set one Bf110 left
engine smoking but he kept fighting, evaded a Fw190 who caused
me a fuel leak. Went after another 110 when three 190s latched
onto my tail and tore strips off my right wing. My F6F went into
an involuntary spin which probably saved me. Recovered at almost
zero feet and as I was low on ammo I flew out low. Forgot to ask
for help in the excitement!

Results One lucky bomb direct hit on target ship 350 points.
Survived
Debrief.
Flew in formation to turning point, side slipping an attack by
two Fw190s who were left behind when I opened to 100% throttle.
Saw the flak coming up from the target ship before I saw the
ship. Lined up on bomb run and dropped two bombs just as Bf 109s
and Bf110s appeared. Hit the target then turned to cover my
wingmen Received the message MISSION COMPLETE. Chased a Bf110
and set his left engine on fire but he kept fighting! Attacked
him three times but still he wouldn't go down. His gunner nearly
got me, causing me a fuel leak. Bf109s tried to get on my tail
after a head on pass where we exchanged fire, but I dived low
and followed my flight out.

LOL --- Guys the joke is on ME... When I posted these missions
there was only to be ONE not four.....
I guess that is the screw-up of the week......LOL

Aircraft Beaufighter
Results Torpedo launched but not sure if it hit target. MISSION
COMPLETE. 50 points.
Debrief.
Saw that MBR2 alongside again! Joined by fighter escorts on the
way in. Turned to drop for torpedo run in. Forgot to order
Squadron to attack as I was busy lining up target. Noted an
Ar196 in the water in front of the target. Flak was heavy,
received a fuel leak then aileron damage but managed to drop
torpedo before flying low over the Tirpitz. Flak followed me out
but I managed to get away. No sign of enemy fighters thankfully
as I was struggling to keep airborne. Too busy to notice if my
wingmen succeeded completely, although I did see at least one
direct torpedo hit. Survived. I didn't get a Target Destroyed
message so not sure what happened. Maybe my torpedo was off
target.
Not to worry about four missions Otto. Something different where
we can view and fly an op from four aspects. A great scenario
too.

Debrief
I have flown only the first mission. The escort to the target
was correct. The Tirpitz was hit squarely in the engine room.
Back on our fleet, we were first attacked by a pair of Me-110s.
One of them caught fire because of my shots. While maneuvering
to land, a pair of Bf-109 appeared. I entered into combat with
them. In combat my plane entered stall, from which I could not
get out. My plane sank in the dark waters. The end.

Results 50 points. Survived
Debrief.
Since we had a choice I decided to take the Mosquito bombing
mission over the Corsair escort role. Had a good attack lined up
on Tirpitz but another plane crashed into the hillside ahead of
me. I had to fly through the smoke and lost site of the target
briefly. When I emerged from the smoke I was too far to the aft
side. I tired to correct and drop my bomb but missed. Should
have held on and made another pass. I took a flak hit and began
losing fuel, but survived.

Hi Haukka. I thought I saw in the movie that immediately after
two crew bailed out of the doomed Bf110 that the gunner kept
firing or was that a ground flak incendiary going horizontal?
Well done on surviving Von. I always feel that is an achievement
in itself.

I really don't know why these Germans fly with the cockpit open.
Also, I haven't seen them jump on my recording. I leave the
track here so you can see it for yourself.[/font]
