Regarding the Luftwaffe photo this is often added to
descriptions of the Tunisian airlift in early 43. The Ju52s flew
from Sicily to Tunisia with Bf110 escorts and this may be the
Gabes or Sfax Airbase used for the airlift of supplies and
       reinforcements.

Macchi C.202 Folgore taxiing out along a newly prepared taxiway.
A ground-crewman rides on each wing, standard practice with
       poor-vision fighters.

Note the block protection walls here...unusual, at least to me.

Perfect alignment, don't know if in an attack safe field or near
a front line and perfect for strafing!

Re the Macchi photos I believe the top two are taken in Sicily.
Probably in 1941 when the MC202 was introduced to the frontline.
The brick protective walls are unusual and only seen at
permanent bases. May have even been set up for propaganda
purposes as the Regia Aeronautica was always short of equipment
       and supplies.
The bottom photo is in Italy, probably Ciampino Roma, where
units received new aircraft away from the front line unless you
       count overhead bombing as such.

Thanks for the info... yes, those brick/block looking blast
pens are VERY different... I've never seen the like anywhere in
       any of the old pictures.

Is that an Australian P-40 or US? My old eyes can't quite make
out the roundels. My first guess is Aussie.
Looks like they are ready for bad weather. The field appears to
have channels to hold off the rain water.
