... Russia of course versus Japan, correct?
Yes.
I have heard of Khalkhin-Gol but don't know much about
it.
You may find thorough info about its aerial warfare
here:
Khalkhin Gol/Nomonhan Incident 1939
HTML http://surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/nomonhan.htm
I used it as main source to build this campaign, integrated with
relevant entry on Wikipedia
HTML https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battles_of_Khalkhin_Gol.
Russian called those happenings "Khalkhin Gol" (which was the
river along the disputed border), that were for Japanese "The
Nomonhan Incident" (Nomonhan being a small village close to the
river), in the will to minimize that war at a diplomatic level.
How did the super maneuverable Russian bi-planes hold up
against the Japanese fast climbers?
Well, the Japanese fighter was the Ki-27, featuring pressure
carburator (allowing negative G maneuvers) and fairly unmatched
by the Ishak on all other performance characteristics (even turn
time, with combat flaps). About I-152/153 they were absolutely
no match for the Nate.
Aircraft losses
HTML https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battles_of_Khalkhin_Gol#Soviet_aircraft_losses,<br
/>although showing a quite advantage for Japanese, are not so
decisive to say the Soviets were overwhelmed. The war was won by
USSR, although its end was similar to a stalemate, since war in
Europe subtracted attention by Russian, which failed to
consolidate their position.
Thank you very much for allowing me to hint something about
campaign background; it requires much work and passion and
seldom there's anyone interested to know.
I find this fascinating... truthfully I've picked up libraries
full of information over the years (literally) but so much of it
is in bits and pieces (like mentions in books/magazines/old
soldiers talking at the VFW, etc) and such info (to us here in
the USA) was obscure and sometimes nonexistent concerning
combat/theaters as you speak above....and didn't go into great
detail. Only by the advent of the internet was I able to afford
to dig deeper into such unknown or little known conflicts and
yet by then LIFE demanded work, paying bills, providing for
family and so on...leaving never enough time to follow the many
tidbits and leads I had picked up earlier (from the sources I
mentioned.)
I am ALWAYS interested in such things... trust me, GB, I could
listen for hours to knowledgeable speakers upon such things.
There is a 'thirst' to discover all about mankind's
conflicts...to figure out the intricate mechanisms of battle, to
understand more about what, when, why, and how man wields his
sword and raises his shield in desperate combat. Ha!
Thank YOU for your passion upon such matters and the sharing of
it with all of us! :)

PSPS I am a bit amazed that the I-152/153s didn't do better
against the Japanese Ki's... didn't they perform brilliantly in
Spain? And of course in the original game (I haven't flown one
in years) they virtually kicked everybody's arse...lol. Did
Oleg have them 'suped' up a bit more than they should have been
in comparison to real life?

I am not a true expert in the specific subject. What I can say
is that the sources agree on two things: the Polikarpov biplanes
were obsolete at the end of the 30's and beaten by the most
recent monoplanes, and the maneuverability, the main feature of
I-152/153, can be seen only in operation defensive.
The game reproduces this state of affairs well, and I saw that,
during the campaign, things end up going as in historical
events, with the Soviet biplanes defending themselves well, but
they always end up succumbing to the experienced Japanese
pilots, on their machines more modern. The losses on both sides
are substantially similar to the historical ones, in their
proportions.
Every time I put my hand to the flight models, I didn't find
substantial misconduct in their compilation, in favor of the
"reds". Just a few mistakes. Indeed, sometimes the adherence of
parameters to historical sources is surprising. The errors, in
my opinion, are (or have been) of a general nature (such as the
limit of 13.5 G for all airplanes up to version 4.09) and mainly
concern artificial intelligence, which is incorrectly benefited
by a simplified flight model (giving the AI &#8203;&#8203;the
same flight model as the player is a fundamental requirement of
flight simulators).

can you make the door gunners medics for the "Wounded" loadout?
Sometime in the future would be fine.
"In your dreams" would be understandable.
Well, I can likely remove the machineguns and maybe do some
tricks... dunno, have to look at the java... likely can remove
the guns (or possibly stow them...again dunno till I look at the
java. I dunno about making medics though, those pesky guys are
REALLY hardcore. The 1B is sort of crude (java wise) in
comparison to my later choppers and so (if I remember right)
might be harder to mess with in some areas...I was learning how
to make a chopper back then, and it was complicated as hell. I
made many mistakes, some corrected later before release, and
some still not corrected as the overall craft worked okay warts
and all and I didn't want to jinx it. You see you can really F
up a complicated craft (spoiling months of work) just by going
back in to change 'one' small detail...lol. Yeah, even with
backup copies you see things get confused and you loose/forget
what line of thought you were thinking as you changed things.
Ha! Hard to explain. ;D
Anyway, sure... I can do some stuff. As Oleg always said...
"Two Weeks!" :o

Hey Bee... sorry about the above. I must have clicked on
'modify' on your post but meant to click on 'QUOTE' so I could
reply to you.
??? ::) :-[ :-[ :-[
So rather than replying to your quote, I ended up overwriting
your post. This is embarrassing and wholly unintentional.
Can you just repost your post maybe and I'll replace it in the
correct slot. Anyway, sorry... my vision is terrible and I'm
rather stupid these days so there ya go. >:(

WHAAAT? ??? You're not Perfect? ;D I am shattered! :o
Gosh if we never made mistakes we wouldn't be human would we
now?
No problem. Here's that Clear and Present Danger movie still
and skin again:
Movie Still:

As for the medics, not a problem. There are so many "hacks" we
have to use to get everything we want, having door gunners in a
rescue mission isn't a deal breaker. They used them in real
life and if they are going to be there they may as well shoot
back to protect the chopper and the "rescuees" don't you think?
This isn't a Red Cross chopper after all, it's a mercenary
chopper..
Besides, I'm not trying to recreate the scene exactly as it was
in the movie, just using the idea.
At least I have some "wounded" in the chopper and that a LOT
more than other modders would have given us. Thank you for
that.
(i still would like some more loadout options for the P-36AT
though...please)

lol.. yeah, okay...not going to try to quote you this time so
maybe it won't get erased? g'ah!
I've been intending to take a look at the Huey java again,
sooooo as time permits I will see if there's anything fairly
easy to do that might fall in the specs you spoke of.
(shurgs...dunno.)
As to the P-36AT... yeah, I'll try to take a look at it's
loadouts/engine over the next day or two. Today is shot...have
farmy things to do around here... and tomorrow is Church Day...
and we (my wife and I) play (or I do, the guitar) and sing at
church (we both sing.) And then I have to visit my mom for a
bit...so it's taken over as well.
hopefully by Monday I'll have a bit more time. (oh... also
trying to repair/upload another old gunship that seems to be
having sound/engine problems in 4.12 for some unobvious reason?
works fine in the other game versions though. ??? )

Whatever you can do whenever it can be done. No problem for me.
So, you're a guitarist eh? I'm a semi-retired bassist. (not
much call for a 70 year old rock star these days if you know
what i mean). :D
So while foolin' around with the Rescue Mission I found a way to
make the Huey a Stationary Object.
Two waypoints close to each other.
First waypoint @ 5 meters.
Second waypoint 'Landing', "Straight In" waypoint option.
'0' fuel.
Result:
[img width=640
height=307]
HTML https://i.ibb.co/4YVnFQt/Stationary-Huey.jpg[/img]
Stays there throughout the entire mission.
If I gave it only one waypoint - "Landing" and zero fuel, it
would appear at mission start and then the gunner's would run
away leaving an empty chopper. then after about three minutes
the Huey disappeared.
This option works great until a Stationary Huey is made.
And if not...c'est la vie.

whoops! Stationary ALREADY been made.... and also a fix for it
that leaves NO gunners in it.
:D
Static Huey 1B
For those 'extra' choppers around your base camp. :D
*follow readme install instructions if you don't already know
how.
DL Link:
HTML http://www.mediafire.com/file/mwb4dk65b8qavcz/Static+Huey.7z
This is the NO gunner static, a bit more realistic for sitting
around the base.
To use the BELOW no gunner static... you still need to install
the normal ABOVE static (with gunners.) Then just DL and drop
this file below into the proper place via the readme and there
ya go... static, with no gunner.
