Regarding the 88% throttle issue...someone here will know the
answer to that one. I have forgotten (in my dotage), but there
is a good technical reason for that limitation. I believe also
that it only applies to one model of the FW-190.

Interesting Von. I have only flown the 190A4 so far but I read
somewhere in the Il2 forums that the programme limits certain
aircraft to 88%. Cant find the original quote.
Flew 101st mission in stock Luftwaffe Fighter South campaign
today in BAT372. Lifted off runway as enemy fighters and bombers
approached and heard a bang behind me. My rudder stopped working
so I had to turn back to base under fire. It seemed I forgot to
close my canopy!! Senior moment lol.

Hi Beo. The common names of German aircraft sub models were A
Anton, B Berta, C Carl?, D Dora, E Emil, F Friedrich, G Gustav,
and K Karl. I am not sure where these originated, whether with
the Allies or Germans themselves, maybe even postwar authors.
They applied mainly to 109s, 190s, and 87s.

Right, Lars, and though no expert I am aware of those ^^^ common
names... but though I may be wrong, I was under the impression
that the 190's were originally officially named Würger (which
would translate to Shrike...a so-called butcherbird in English.)
Being no expert, as I said, I do not know if that is correct or
not, but I did read it 'somewhere'.
No big deal though. Just curious.
Beo

The Fw 190 is one of the most exhilarating planes to fly in Il-2
or any sim that does an adequate job modeling it. Its
performance relative to other types is enhanced, perhaps
unfairly, by the fact that its virtues - roll rate and
acceleration - are easily modeled in a sim, whereas its main
vices - heavy ailerons, especially at speed - are impossible to
model except by artificially reducing pitch responsiveness,
which doesn't really cut it. So the 190 can be either a boom
and zoom fighter or a turn fighter, as long as you watch out for
that vicious high-speed stall and don't try to play with
Spitfires in sustained tight turns.
Takeoff and landing are delightfully difficult in the 190
because of the lack of rudder trim and the tailwheel lock being
activated only by pulling the stick back. It's also so clean
that it's hard to decelerate for landing. You have to idle it
for nearly the whole approach to have a hope of holding it down
to 120 mph over the fence, but then add power at the flare
because the speed decays rapidly at the end and it will drop a
wing. Wartime pilots generally did not try to 3-point a 190, it
would bounce down the runway. Best to fly it on.
Most of the Il-2 implementations of the 190 get most of the
handling features right, except for the aforementioned elevator
forces and also the plane's tendency to nose down at high
speeds; the ones I fly in the sim all need buckets of down trim
when going fast.

Yes, good information there... and this: Fw 190 "Wurger"
("Shrike") - Base Series Designation.
Good break down of the entire series too, lots of detail.
