The Doctor is out at the Boston Harbor Beach, alone, at night --
which is a decision there’s probably a justification for. It’s
probably not a good justification for someone who knows that
*things* exist, but it’s not like he’d be anywhere without a
reason, is it? Doctors are busy people, especially in this world
       of darkness city.
Whatever his justification is, it’s irrelevant: Because
tonight’s the night that *things* decide to notice him.

Something stalked him from the water. It lurked just beneath the
surface of the waves, compound insectoid eyes watching him as he
walked toward whatever destination he had in mind…

A lot of times, when someone (intelligent) has a gun, they know
that ever using it is likely more trouble than it's worth and is
only for the worst case scenario because of it. And yet, they're
a little more willing to go out at night or down a lonely
street. Well, that goes double (on both ends) when the 'gun' is
a creature from the Underworld's depths that can be called up in
       case of an emergency.
Not that he wants to rely on that. Chthonians aren't patient
       creatures.
Regardless, the Doctor has come out to the harbor for a good
reason, and that's because he needs some personally-gathered sea
salt to prepare his next Soul Jar. So he's there with a jar and
a bag with a portable bunsen burner, which he takes out.
Gathering the water up, he sets it onto a little metal pan so it
can start boiling away on the burner, and then basically plays
       the waiting game.
At least, that's the plan, until he notices something out in the
water. No, not just out in the water, but hiding in the water.
Hiding in the water from whatever might be watching from the
beach. Which... is only him right now. That's not good. Whatever
it is, mundane or otherwise, especially with the recent news
       reports, it's not good.
What options does he have without going nuclear? Not many. He
can attempt a blind summons. Some sort of of poltergeist. But
does he have the 15 minutes or so that's going to take before
whatever's out there decides to be a problem?
Let's get started and find out.

       need.

Casually as can be, the doctor starts to scrawl binding sigils
into the sand. Doesn't need to be fancy, but he also needs to do
his best to look like this is what he was already doing. Just
       playing with the beach...
Apparently that works, because before too long, he finishes the
last line across the central circle, and puts out a call into
Twilight, a ghostly echo that seeks out the nearest poltergeist
or other 'violent' ghost to draw it near and (hopefully) bind it
       to his cause.
Whatever shows up, the command is the same: "Figure out what's
in the water over there, tell me, and protect me against
anything that might wish me harm."
There's a no-nonsense timber to his tone, like he's not ready to
deal with its shit if it's unhappy with being called upon.
Luckily, ghosts often have some sort of business and a reason to
want to be able to leave their anchor; even if the binding
fails, he can maybe make a deal.

A ghost does in fact answer his call: A lanky chinese-american
man in his late 20s, dressed in a well-tailored blue suit
lightly spattered with fresh blood. His left eye is swollen shut
and his nose is shattered. He wears a sad smile.
Once commanded, the ghost floats over to the water, and that’s
when the shit hits the fan. Whatever’s in the water decides now
is the time to strike -- and leaps out of the water, intent on
       descending on the Doctor.

The Doctor's eyes widen at the sight of first this aquatic
creature and then a tentacled naked woman immediately jumps
afterward. As she tackles it into the sand, he steps back out of

"What in the-" he cuts himself off. For now, he does his best to
just stay out of the way. (Dodging)
       ---------------------------------------------------------
The ghost, meanwhile, has fulfilled one part of his task, in
that he can see the creature. Calling upon his own power, and
having a basic semblance of deduction to assist, he focuses
telekinetic force like a rope around the creature, assisting Idi

       Crunch.
Between the ghost’s telekinesis and Idirbheart’s tentacles
squeezing as she wrestles the creature to the ground, the
sickening wet cracking of it’s exoskeleton releases a
black-purple goop across the moonlit sands.
It gives a death-chitter, and once she’s sure it’s dead, Idi
retracts her tendrils and is left panting.
She looks up at the Doctor, inspecting him to make sure he’s
okay. She can’t see, nor is she aware of, the ghost.

Yes, that's exactly what he had just been thinking about
earlier, stories about creatures in the water. This is certainly
one of those 'I hate how right I always am' moments.
But having deductive abilities of his own, and seeing that the
woman killed, rather than assisted, that creature, well, there's
some cautious hope that he's not about to also be tentacled to
       death.
"I, um... thank you?" he says a bit softly, compared to his
normally more confident tone. He's still rattled by what he'd
seen but thankfully his mind has inured itself for at least a
       little while.
The ghost just keeps an eye in Idi. Its job is to stop anything
hostile, but since she's not attacking the doctor yet, it's just
watching from Twilight for as long as the magic holds.
