The vision shown is of a tattooed lady with a side shave. She’s
wearing a pantsuit, and has a lanyard around her neck that
identifies her as Museum staff.
She’s currently sitting at office desk, typing an email.
::Final shipment received. Will forward it in two day’s time,
it’s Christmas Eve and finding drivers is difficult. I expect
the rest of your payment will be forthcoming, as previously
discussed.::

I shake my head at his question. “Doubtful. Abyssal infection’s
just too unpredictable. Breathing it in wouldn’t be that bad –
you’d get sick, symptoms like a cold or flu, but you’d get over
it – but you’d still have the Abyssal taint even after the
microbes were flushed from your system. Eating it would be
worse. Direct infection, like intravenous, could be fatal.
That’s just the physical effects of the microbial life. Without
a microscope and a full lab, I couldn’t tell you how the Abyssal
taint has affected the microbes. It might have made them more
aggressive, mutated them in any number of ways. Trying to use
this stuff as a method of control would be several different
gambles all at once, and a lot of them would have bad results
for anyone who tried as well as whoever it was tried on.”
Admittedly, some of that – a lot of it – is speculative, but
it’s based solidly in what I do know. An educated guess, at
worse.
The woman in the scrying mirror is lovely – I’m a sucker for
tattoos – but I try to focus on the email being written. I can
make no sense of the emails shown – probably dummy accounts –
but the gist of the email…
“This is a stash, not the final drop,” I tell Solomon. “They’re
planning to send it somewhere else.”
Pouting, I add, “Why is evil always so hot?” I fan myself a
little with one hand, for effect.

revealed woman.
"She's mortal," he mentions fairly immediately, the panoply of
Arcana he's focusing on making it clear to him. The Sleeping
Curse is there in full force. "Which makes sense if it's just a

He chuckles lightly about evil being hot; he certainly doesn't
disagree here. "Who knows. Anyway, let's go up the ladder," he
murmurs. Another quick mudra with his free hand as he sends a
command her way too.
~BCC that email to (tertiary personal email used for stuff where
no actual personal info is input), then send everything you know
about the person you're sending that email to and/or working for
to that same email address, as well as everything you know about
where the referred shipments are being sent to and where they
came from or what they're meant for, if anything, then delete
both from your Sent box~
The nice thing about a Sleeper is their memory of even doing
something they didn't intend to will rewrite itself, so there
are no memory-related tracks to cover. Certainly won't let any
Guardian know he's relying on that, though.

House isn’t finished being built yet. Paid well, half up front

Damn. Solomon is smooth. I rest my head on his shoulder while I
watch through the mirror; we probably look like any cute couple
looking in a hand mirror. Meanwhile I’m concentrating on the
information going across the scrying window.
“So the tattooed creep is probably our guy, but he’s the buyer,”
I murmur. “That gets us to the end of one chain, but if we can,
we should track back to the supplier. That garbage didn’t get
that way by accident. Got any ideas how to clean it, or get rid
of it? For the record, those ashes are as dangerous to your
bloody friend as they are to us. And most certainly to the kids.
Cleanup’s priority, isn’t it? Do we call it in, or try to handle
it ourselves?”
Me, I’ve got very limited options, but I do have a few. The
museum probably has cleaning chemicals. A good dose of bleach or
vinegar will kill the majority of the tainted life in those
ashes, and likely make them useless for whatever else they
wanted to do.
I have to admit, I might have complicated the job – but I got us
information, and without blowing our cover.

He watches the text getting typed out with Meadow leaning
against him, apparently having no issue with that, though the
scrying window closes before it's finished. But he pulls out his
phone and navigates to that email, which he needs to manually
put in an address for rather than keeping it on his email app,
and brings it up to read it, angled so she can too.
"Well, seems we have a new address, at least," he says with a
nod. "If we time it with when this is meant to be delivered, we
can nearly guarantee he'll be there, so long as he doesn't have
failsafes in place to know when his sleeper go-betweens have
been compromised. But I saw no traces of Supernal magic on her
or her computer, at least."
"You're right, though, we can't actually let this stuff go
anywhere, and we need to know what the other end of this is,
take out the hydra at its base and all. As for what's in the
vases, I'd suggest we make a mundane attempt first, fire or
whatever more subtle method you might have onhand. Failing that,
we might need to call someone. You'll be able to see if any of
it's still alive after whatever we try, right?" he asks, given
she'd spotted that aspect of it to begin with.

“There’s probably industrial cleaners in the museum,” I tell
him. “Bleach or ammonia will do the trick, I assume you know
enough not to mix them. Even if it doesn’t kill all of them,
it’ll kill most of it, but here’s the problem: that still won’t
remove the Abyssal taint. Even microbes and things leave waste
products, and in any case, it’s in the nature of such things to
spread. I think we might need to call this in. Those microfauna
are perfectly natural where they are; if you leave ashes any
place in warm or damp, they’ll grow. I don’t think the taint
comes from the microbes; I think they picked it up from wherever
the ashes were stashed, or the ashes themselves.”
I shake my head slowly. “The Circle deals with things like this
sometimes, but I haven’t progressed far enough to do it. I think
for cleanup at least, we might need to kick this up the chain.
Call VIII and let her know about this stuff. It’d be
irresponsible for us to leave it, even for a minute.”

He shakes his head, "I think, once you've killed the microbes, I
can clear away the taint they leave behind. It's basically
contained within the twisted Resonance that they're embodying,
and so once I remove that after you've doused them, there won't
really be anything left so it should fade away," he explains to
her. "If that doesn't do the trick, we'll certainly need to make
sure someone else finishes the job though, yes."
Perhaps a bit of male pride there, that he doesn't want to call
mommy to ask for help yet. That's doubled in a mage and again
for a Thrice-great, so he can't really help it.
With that, he starts to look for something to open the crates
with, even if he has to swipe it from the workers before they
finish up and leave. Assuming he can find one, well, step one is
opening the crates since the fire option is being avoided.
Likely for the best.

“Okay,” I tell him. “Give me a sec.”
From my pocket, I pull a small wooden cup, and from another, a
bright shiny new scalpel in a sterilized wrapper. Technically, I
really shouldn’t carry one around, but you never know when you
might need it, and the blade is small enough that you can’t
really get in trouble for it.
“This is gonna be fast and dirty,” I say on an exhale, mostly to
prepare myself. This isn’t going to be fun, but I heal absurdly
fast under the influence of my weekly rituals. Working quickly,
singing softly under my breath – I have a fine singing voice, a
clear, bright soprano – I kneel down and set the cup before me,
and then run the edge of the scalpel just under each fingernail,
drawing blood to drip from my fingers. I hold my bloodied hands
to drain into the cup, and hold it out to Solomon. “Dip your
fingertips,” I tell him, “then drink half and pass it back to
me.”
There’s another way we could share that cup, but you know, let’s
not mix business and pleasure. I still haven’t quite gotten over
him bringing a murder spirit on the job. Call me prejudiced;
I’ll simply agree with you.
When he has done these things, I drink my half – my fingers are
already bloody – and then in a moment of pure absurdity, I pull
a wet wipe from my pocket and wipe out the cup before I put it
away.

The spell takes hold swiftly. Transformation is blessedly
painless, as fingernails thicken and root deeper into the
phalangeal bone to form heavy, thick claws, more suited for
digging or tearing wood than flesh. Power ripples through our
muscles, as well. I tried to limit the visible physical changes,
but I made a point to strip off my coat before the spell took
hold, and my shirt is noticeably tighter. I wince as an audible
snap and a sharp sting in the middle of my back announces that’s
another bra I’ll have to replace.
Ah well. I’ll take care of it later.
“Let’s get to work,” I tell Solomon. “We can get all these open,
and I can get the cleaning stuff, unless you can get the boys to
help us.”

It takes 15 minutes to pop open all the crates, with both mages
helping each other. They contain:
More vases with ashes.
Bones. The occasional skull.
One of them has an old knife.
They are all packed carefully.
Some of them are literally booby-trapped. When these crates are
opened, a thick green gas releases into the air, sending both of
the mages into a coughing fit that includes, but is not limited
to, bloody blood!
