“I am not equipped to list every disappearance in the city,
unfortunately. That level of surveillance isn’t something I
believe the Concilium would approve of,” she says.
Though whether the Concilium would approve of it privately is
another question entirely. Not necessarily one that has an
answer.
“The picture was taken from a security camera feed in a gas
station just outside Boston,” she explains.
“I can arrange for transportation to the Portland Mental
Hospital, if you would like,” she says to Hausus.
She stays out of the way of the mages deciding who’s going where
and doing what -- that’s literally their job, not hers.

Solomon quirks a brow at Meadow and offers the slightest hint of
a smile before he refocuses on the more immediate matter at
hand.
"Well, if you can give me the address of that gas station, it's
as good a starting place as any," he mentions, before turning
back towards the others.
"It sounds to me like we have a good split. How about, Hausos,
you and..." he points at Morena largely arbitrarily, "Morena can
head to Portland and speak with the patients," he suggests.
He then motions to himself and Rebus, "Rebus and I can work the
ritual, possibly multiple of them over the course of a couple
days. I'd say we could all do both, but I imagine time is of the
essence where someone like this is involved, and a potent enough
spell can take all day if you're doing it right." Leave it to a
hermetic Legacy to claim a day-long ritual is a good thing.
While he seems confident in this, he has no illusions about
being in charge, but among the Thrice Great you learn quickly
that the best way to stop the indefinite planning session is to
give out final assignments.

I smile at Meadow when she touches my hand and reassures me.
It's been two years since I awakened and I still don't feel
competent, and ever since Asher disappeared a year ago, I've
been getting more and more frustrated. The bird, who I'm
assuming by now was The First, told me we were fated to do this
job, or at least fate lead her to us. That makes me want to do
this, and be helpful. Plus, it might get my closer to my own
goals.
Corbin shifts on my shoulder and squawks. I look at him, but he
says nothing. He's just being a loudmouth. "I don't mind going
with Hausos to see the victims." I say looking back at the
group. It's all I can really think to say. This Solomon guy
seems to be on top of the planning stuff. Plus, Hausos is
hot...What idiot wouldn't want to go with her?

“Better the Consilium’s money than mine,” I tell VIII, accepting
her offer of transport arrangements with a raised glass. They
can afford it. Caesar starts sniffing at the hand holding the
drink when I bring it back to my lips, and that’s when I tell
the big cat, “Oh, no, buddy, that’s the line,” and gently tap
his nose. “You wouldn’t like it even if I were willing to let
you have any.”
Solomon gets a wink, and I nod along as he hands out
assignments. It’s usually best for someone to take charge, and
it isn’t really in my nature. When and if something comes up
that I have to push back against, we’ll see how well he responds
to it.
Morena also gets a wink and a smile. “Maybe after the work part
is done we can find something interesting to do.” Laughing blue
eyes run over the other woman’s form leave little doubt as to
what I might consider interesting, but honestly, we could always
go shopping too.
I turn to the quietest member of our crew. “Rebus? What do you
think?” After a pause, I add, “You might want to call Caesar
back. He seems inordinately interested in scotch.”

They nodded as Solomon laid out a plan. "This sounds good to
me," they say. "Solomon and I will work the ritual, and you two
visint the victims." They repeated to be sure.
At Hausos' remark, they call Caesar back over, to which he
quickly responds. Rebus pets the cat for being a good boy,
smiling. "He likes you. That means something." They tell Hausos.
"I think Solomon has a good plan," they say also, in response to
the question about whether they approve or not.

if you would kindly come with me, we can depart immediately? I
will return you to your own vehicles after the visit to
Portland.”
With that, VIII walks back toward the black SUV, opening the
door and waiting for the other two mages to climb in.

There's a minor look of relief on his face as everyone seems to
just agree with what he said. You never know among a room full
of Awakened, right?
"Great," he says, then turns to Rebus in particular. "Do you
have any favored place to do your ritual work? If not, I'm set
up well for Ceremonial magics," he asks them, not wanting to
force them immediately into dealing with hermetic methods, but
he certainly has his own preferences.

"Sounds like we have a plan." I say with a smile. I head over to
the limo, and start to climb in, Corbin flies in before me and
perches on one of the seats, claiming it for himself. "Nice..."
I say looking around. I've never been in a limo before. I've
never been in anything really nice before, car wise. I'm easily
impressed. This should be fun...a trip to Portland... I've never
been...anywhere, really. Poor folk gonna poor folk.

I hop off the table and blow kisses to Solomon and Rebus as I
follow VIII and Morena out of the room. I quite naturally take
the scotch with me. Hell, I’m not driving. Kind of wish I had a
cigar. Or some weed. But alas, I have to stay clean, at least
until I get through my residency. Don’t want to take any
chances. Especially not in Boston.
Morena’s reaction gets a quick grin as I slide in next to her,
bumping her companionably with one hip. I wish I had crackers or
seeds or something for the bird. I know better than to try and
pet a bird. Some will let you. Some will take a finger in touch
tax. “It is nice,” I agree. “My parents got me a limo for my
senior prom, but it wasn’t as nice as this. Even with six people
paying in, it was expensive.”
Yes. I had six parents. It was…complicated.
I hook an arm through one of Morena’s and bump her with my
shoulder. “Serious as the work is, we’re gonna have fun,” I tell
her, smiling broadly. “I can be a lot, though, so don’t be
afraid to tell me if I’m too much. I don’t have much in the way
of boundaries, so make sure you let me know yours, okay?”

Rebus nodded to Solomon, "I do not have such a place, so I'll
work with you wherever." They don't seem to mind the concept of
Hermetic magic, either.
They watch the other two go to the vehicle, then shakes their
head. "Shall we get started then? Should we take our own cars?"
