"Well at least TV got something right."She nodded her head. "it
is weird, both cases are weird." She sipped her coffee looking
away for a moment, and then looking back. "When i was at the
crime scene, before you scared the shot out of me i was... I
don't know i was just getting a feeling that something wasn't
right aboutt he scene. More then just the perp not being able to
get in through the window. it isn't anything i can put my finer
on. Just a feeling that someone about it was strange
She pulled a stack of post its out of her bag and wrote the name
down quickly, as well as the name from the older case.
"I had the same feeling. That the less we actually write down
the better. I will get started on these name tonight."

“It’s important to trust your gut,” I say when she explains that
the scene gave her the heebeegeebees. “When you get the sense
that strange is becoming dangerous, promise me you’ll at least
call for backup before getting yourself in trouble?”
I feel the need to look after Mason’s kid in his absence. Not
that I’d say as much out loud; I’m not her mother or father and
I don’t want to be. But I still feel like I owe it to an old
friend to keep an eye on his kid when he can’t.
“Alright,” I say, hoisting up the white cardboard box I brought
with me.
“Here’s the evidence for the cold case, and the new case,” I
say. “Got permission to share it with you as a consultant on the
case. Don’t remove anything from it’s plastic bags, but you’re
free to use it to help with your investigation.”
((+3 Equipment dice to investigation rolls related to either
case.))

She looked at Tracy for a long moment and then nodded. "I
promise."
She reached out and took the box from Tracy setting it on the
bench beside her. She wasn't going to start going through it
right here in public.
"I will do the best i can. Maybe if we solve these cases it will
give us some sort of clue as to why my father was killed." She
sighed and glanced at her watch. "I should be going. I am going
to have a late night diving into the darkest parts of the web,
and going over these cases, and I have class in the morning."
She smiled a little. "I am studying Criminal Justice. I plan on
attending the academy once i have finished getting my
bachelors."
"My mother hates the idea, but i like to think my dad would have
approved." She smiled.
"I am glad i met you, and i will be in touch soon." She stood up
and slid into her coat before picking up the box, and tossing a
twenty down on the table. "For my coffee, and whatever you want
to eat. See you later."

I hand her my card and watch through the window as she goes to
her car and pulls out.
I take a deep breath and exhale. If I was honest with myself,
I’d say that driving her away from investigating was the safest
thing for her. But I can tell she isn’t going to let it go -- so
the best I can do is to help her keep her head above water.
I finish my coffee, pay for both our meals, and head back to the
Precinct.
