Striking Looks 2
---------------------------------------------------------
The next night, Lola’s eyes opened up and as she came to unlife,
the first thing to hit her is the stench of the abandoned subway
station. A low rumble reaches her ears as the T rockets along
the tracks somewhere in the distance. Cold, damp grime clung to
her dead skin… she was going to need a shower.
She hated waking up like this, but she didn’t have a permanent
haven. So for now, this broken down heap of shelter was the best
she could do.
Even if she did had to share it with the mole people. At the
very least, they offered her a source of vitae that didn’t
require much effort to maintain the Masquerade. There wasn’t
much competition for them, either. Speaking of… she wasn’t
starved, but breakfast wouldn't be a bad idea.
She sat up, only to be confronted with the third sensation of
the evening: Her heart falling through her gut.
Hanging on the wall next to her, stabbed into it with a knife,
is another picture of a person with a red X through them.
Whoever was blackmailing her wasn’t finished with her yet. Nor
were they finished offing people, it would seem.
This would complicate her plans for tonight. Not that it would
prevent them, but she guessed that if she didn’t prioritize her
blackmailer’s requests, she’d pay a price that would come
drenched with regret.
So. Step one: Figure out who her victim was.

Striking Looks 2
---------------------------------------------------------
She yanked the knife out of the wall, snapping up the picture
before it could fall into the puddle on the ground beneath it.
The first step toward figuring out who her target was, was
clearing a space to work in the rubble of the collapsed subway
platform. This was a lot of physical work, but nothing she
couldn’t handle as a Kindred.
--- Quote ---
> How long does it take her? 5 hours, minus one per success:
Strength 2 + Athletics 2
> 8, 4, 2, 1 = 1 successes = 4 hours of preparation.
--- End Quote ---
The bulk of the work was shifting the rubble onto the tracks,
out of the way of the platform itself. Huge chunks of stone,
concrete and steel find themselves shoved, lifted, and tossed
out of the way.
With that settled, she finally begins the real work; invoking
the magic of the Beast. She places the photo of the man on the
ground, and slices open her palm to bleed on it. She smears that
vitae in ancient runes forgotten to history, circling the photo
itself with them, before the dance begins.
The Dance was integral to the magic. It drew on ancient
traditions from untouched tribes of mankind in the Elder Days --
wild and untamed, where every motion was angry or sexual.
Fighting and fucking whirled their way through her body as she
moved, whipping herself into near frenzy.
Finally, the chant.
“Lamia, Filia, Odii, in me odium tuum. Lamia, Filia, Odii, in me
odium tuum. Lamia, Filia, Odii, in me odium tuum!”
The chanting came with a snarl, a growl, a hiss of boiling fury
that spilled from her throat and flowed like blood from an
infected wound to the runes and the picture.
And then the magic happened. The hatred invoked slammed into her
like a mac truck, and she channeled it into the picture. Visions
started to coalesce behind her eyes as the Goddess answered her
prayers. Thirst. Hunger. Hate. Hate him. So much. She hated him
so much his name was burned into her mind.
--- Quote ---
> Divination: Learning the identify of the man in photograph. 3
Vitae.
>
> Manipulation 4 + Divination 3 + WP 3
> -0: Advanced Range / Risk +2
> -0: Range 1 through 3
> -2: Range 4
> -0: Potency 1 (What’s his name?) / Risk +1 for ‘better
questions’
> -2: Potency 2 (Where is he now?)
> Total of 4 risk and -4 dice to the casting pool.
> 2 more vitae: +3 dice. Total 5 Vitae spent.
> Extra time spent: +2 dice.
>
> 10 dice:
> 9, 7, 7, 7, 5, 5, 5, 4, 3, 3 = 1 success.
>
> 4 Risk:
> 10, 9, 5, 4 = 3 successes.
> Backlash: Frenzy check at -3.
--- End Quote ---
And that’s when the Beast reared it’s ugly head. The magic she
was using courted the Beast itself; it was only natural that it
would flare and try to take control.
--- Quote ---
> Chance die! She only has 3 resolve + composure lmao
> 1d10: 10
> SHE PASSES
--- End Quote ---
She retches, arching her back and snarling. The Beast claws at
her brain behind her eyes, gripping and twisting. She is forced
to swallow it down, so hard that it feels like bruising on her
soul.
But she contains it. The power. The magic. It gave her what she
needed:
A name, and a place.

Finding the prey was the easiest part. There was a small
community of people, the destitute and forgotten, that lived in
the abandoned tunnels beneath the city. They were a distrustful
sort, and thus tended to live spread out and separated from each
other in their little hovels.
It was a wild west down here. There was no calling the police
should your things be stolen, and no justice but mob justice
when someone was hurt unnecessarily. There was no hospital to be
brought to if you were injured, either. So suffice to say the
prey here wasn’t the type to be easily socially hunted. Lola had
to rely on older, more primal methods of feeding:
Stalking, attacking, and biting her prey like a wild beast.
--- Quote ---
> Strength 2 + Brawl 2 + WP 3 = 7 dice
> 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 7, 4 = 4 successes
>
> 4 Vitae. That leaves the bum Drained.
--- End Quote ---
Before he knows what’s happening, she’s snuck up on him, yanked
his head to the side and sunk her fangs into his unwashed throat
from behind. Hot blood pours over her tongue, down her throat.
Sweet, slick blood’s smell almost overpowers the stench of the
homeless man.
There’s only so much of the odor that she can stand, though,
before she lets go of him and shoves him to the ground so she
can melt into the darkness.
The Beast snarled in her bosom, thrashing against her to drain
him dry. Find more. Hunt another. But there were only so many
hours in the night, and she had someone she had to kill -- and
that required some scouting, at the very least.
So, despite her entire being longing for more, she retreated.
Int 2 + Investigation 2: Can she learn about the target
first?
10, 5, 5, 4 = 2 successes
Vinny, the target, lived alone. She made sure this time. He had
no kids. In fact, he didn’t have any living family. He was,
according to her records, 120 years old. He didn’t have a job,
but his condo was fully paid for. His work schedule was such
that he was free most of the day, and a little into the evening.
This guy smacked of Ghoul before she even met him.
--- Quote ---
> Wits 3 + Stealth 3: Can she scout out a route to the target
that will avoid being seen?
> 9, 8, 8, 8, 2, 1 = 4 successes
--- End Quote ---
Fortunately for her, his condo was on the first floor of the
complex. This was likely to just be a repeat performance of the
other night’s kill. That thought ties a knot in her stomach,
which she shakes off and focuses.
Again… it was this ghoul, or her, in the long run. If she didn’t
comply, she’d be exposed to the Prince and a Hunt could be
called on her. So she didn’t have a choice.
--- Quote ---
> Dexterity 2 + Larceny 2 [Lockpicking]: Can she get in without
making noise?
> 8, 6, 3, 3, 2 = 1 success

> Dexterity 2 + Stealth 3: Can she make it to her victim without
waking him?
> 8, 7, 5, 2, 1 = 1 success
--- End Quote ---
She deftly picked the lock to the back door of the condo, and
crept through it -- following the sound of the sleeping
heartbeat to his resting place.
She levels the sawed-off shotgun at his sleeping head. The fact
that this was getting easier each time she did it wasn’t lost on
her.
BANG.
--- Quote ---
> Detachment roll:
> 1d10: 4 = 0 successes. She gains the Bestial condition.
--- End Quote ---
She blinks, at least, as the blood splatters back across her
face. This time, she is quick to leave. No pausing. No children.
Just leaving yet another corpse behind.
