I’ve been tracking this Ridden for days, now. It’s killed twice.
I don’t even think it knows it’s being followed, because it
isn’t doing much to cover up it’s tracks. Tracy has been a busy
girl these past few days.
Right now, I’m following them through the back alleys behind the
Wheels of Fire roller rink.
It’s a Knowledge spirit in service to College Town --
Crow-Thirsts-for-Secrets I think it called itself a while back,
riding a cop. I think it’s been hunting down members of some
kind of secret society. Probably doing me a favor, in the long
run, but I can’t just let a spirit kill indiscriminately on this
side of the Gauntlet.

It’s just turned into a dead-end. I stalk around the corner only
to slip on a small puddle of something at the base of a pile of
garbage, landing with a crash that knocks over a metal
trash-can.
“SHIT!” I shout, and the cop whirls around and draws his gun!

I hate taking out the trash. It's heavy, and Jack could do it
himself, but he's a lazy piece of shit who thinks it's funny to
watch a 100lb girl try to do it. Luckily, I'm stronger than I
look. I push the door open with my back and butt and drag the
big grey can out into the alley behind the rink, just in time to
see the redhead slip. "Are you okay?" I ask, blinking, and
adjusting my glasses.
I'm average height, and a little on the thin side, wearing all
black, with a few pieces of steel jewelry, nothing silver.
Corbin can't be around it. Speaking of Corbin, he's on the roof
of the opposite building watching what's happening but otherwise
keeping quiet. That's not like him.
That's when I hear the cop. Like usual he's shouting, for my to
go back inside, and for the redhead to get on the ground. I roll
my eyes and pretend I didn't hear him. I continue to move the
trashcan toward the dumpster that the redhead is leaning
against.

I scramble to my feet with a growl, and the cop opens fucking
fire on me with a civilian standing right there. Spirit-ridden
do crazy shit and this is exactly why we can’t have nice things.
I lurch forward and by the time I take my first step, I’m in
Garou. The Rage pours through me and I see red. This is a
calculated risk; I know for a fact that with a civvie nearby I
might wind up attacking an innocent bystander -- but I’m sick of
chasing and it’s time to finish this Hunt.
Besides, Lunacy will drive her away, right?
I slam my claws through the cop’s chest, hurtling them back into
a wall. Garbage goes flying everywhere!

"Help the wolf, but keep your distance" Corbin says to me with a
tone that tells me that is dangerous. Not that I needed
it...There's a giant fucking wolf person attacking a cop in
front of me. I call upon my power, the power of nature itself, a
bit of blood from a pricked finger across my eyes, and I can see
it... The cop he's possessed, by some kind of bird spirit.
"Fuck." Is all I can think to say, but I move quickly, hiding
behind the dumpster... That wolf is scary shit! I know a way to
help, but it may take a moment to ready myself, and calm my
nerves. I start by taking a deep breath to steady myself, and
going over what I know of bird spirits.

I lope across the alleyway, closing the distance to the cop
before they can even get up. I step on their chest and slash at
their head, blood splattering across my white fur and the old
brick walls of the alley. He grabs my foot and shoves it off of
himself, hissing at me in the spirit tongue that I’m interfering
with The Plan, and gets to his feet.
I don’t back down. I don’t care what The Plan is!

It turns out I know a good deal about spirits like this one.
It's on it's last legs, but I don't want it to flee or get off
it's only attack on the wolf, so... I step out, and cast again,
this time the blood is dabbed on my throat. My voice is both in
the shadow and in the physical worlds. They overlap, to the
spirit's ears. "Stop and Obey Me!!" I command it with every bit
of my Will as a witch. That should give the wolf it needs to end
the spirit as it turns it's head to look at me, it's new
master...for at least a few moments.

I throw a solid punch at the Ridden while it’s distracted -- one
that it manages to duck under, letting my fist collide with the
wall behind it. Chunks of brick go flying everywhere and I leave
a tiny crater in the wall.
It also crushes my fucking hand. Good thing that will heal in a
minute. I howl in pain.
The spirit seems to be focused on the civilian -- who isn’t
running, by the way, not that I can process what that means
while I’m in Garou and the Rage is coursing through me -- which
leaves me

the spirit as it turns back to the wolf. It looks at me once
again.

My fist coalesces back into shape, bones snapping together and
flesh stitching itself whole. The cop stops again, and stares at
the civilian -- but I don’t notice that’s what it’s doing. I’m
too busy trying to predict it’s motions and whiffing because
it’s stopping.
The cop scrambles, figuring it’s now or never trying to escape
-- and I barrel through the garbage giving chase. The dumpster
that the civilian is hiding behind soon gets thrown to the side
like a small cardboard box, crashing to the ground opposite her.
If she doesn’t get out of the way I’m going to trample her as I
chase the Ridden!

When I hear them moving this direction I scramble out of the
way, across the alley. The spirit is running... "Sit!" I call
out, but it ignores me. Damn it. Hopefully the wolf will catch
it.
